The website is an australian company, with all stock sourced through local companies (SE QLD), though the ultimate location is unknown. The major difference between this site and others is that it is run by an optometrist who checks the prescriptions and glasses before shipping, and is available to answer any questions throughout the process
"all stock sourced through local companies (SE QLD), though the ultimate location is unknown"
Exactly what does this mean?
Do you claim that your 'prescriptive lenses' are actually made in Australia from imported blanks?
Or that they are fully manufactured overseas (including prescription) and simply imported via an Australian registered business?
The glasses and lenses are bought through local distributors, the same ones that supply optometrist shops. Prescription lenses are ground and fitted in local laboratories (Sunshine Coast and Brisbane). It is quite possible that some of the blanks and frame stock come from overseas, though any assembly is done locally.
The reason this site is cheaper is that there is not the overhead of retail premises and sales staff, while still having a qualified optometrist available for any questions.
@fredtomato: Fred Tomato, I'd advise featuring your claims of the prescriptive processing being done in Australia, more prominently on your website!
Anyone would think you were trying to be very cagey about where the work was actually done.
Why hide your light under a bushel…if you'll pardon the potential pun.
@Horizon: Thanks for the feedback, I will pass it on the sites owners (they are friends). There is certainly nothing to hide, they would be happy to speak to anyone who has questions, the contact details are on the site
@fredtomato: some health funds will refuse to pay if the product is "sourced" overseas, which is bloody ridiculous given frames are not made here, so if the source is "vague' it probably helps us claim it from our health funds. So is it that important to know when it could 'cost' us by knowing.
The vast health funds will pay a claim for prescription glasses purchased through Only Specs. As the business is owned and run by local optometrists and therefore have a provider number. If there is any doubt with your health fund claims please check with them prior to purchasing.
Looks like just another drop-shipper.
Claims the website is Australian owned but studiously doesn't say WHERE the glasses, or sunglasses, are actually made! Probably Hong Kong.
Overall, much, much better deals available elsewhere on the internet.
