    Norton Internet Security

No thanks, wouldn't install it if it was free

    • +3

+1 even FREE I would never install it.

  • If I already have Norton 2012 on my computer(due for renewal soon)how does this purchase work? Do I have to delete and reinstall for eg, or just renew with a key?.

    • Thanks for your query. if you already have Norton Internet security Installed on your computer then you do not need to delete it rather you can renew by going to renew link from your Norton panel which is located at your computer's taskbar and enter the CD activation key and it will be renewed

    • -4

@Jongly35 Do you call this support? How come he already got 2012 and you want him to renew the license??

      • +2

        Umm, it's ending?

        • -1

Well, 2012 just started so Norton must installed bloatware on the computer.
Ah let me guess…. maybe it's a 3 month trial?

        • +2

I'm guessing dealhunt doesn't understand that yearly subscriptions start when you subscribe, not at the start of the calendar year.

      • He may have got it with a new PC. Most OEM installs are registered for use for short periods of time.

      • +1

If you have Norton 2012 installed and apply another CD key it will extend your subscription for one more year as well

      • +1

I was able to upgrade an installed earlier version to 2012 from Norton - the expiry date remained from the earlier version.

    • -1

it is not really a 'renewel' you are basically changing licence. Don't change keys till one day out from expiry of your old licence as the new subscription will start from then.

      • +2

what bs! if you start a new subscription before the old one expires you simply send an email and they will add on the extra days or months.

        • Thanks for the tip (and the rosy attitude)

    http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/symantec-confirms-hacker-theft…

    First they denied it happened.
Then they owned up, but said it was lost due to some carelessness by a 3rd party.
Now they say only legacy software is affected.

Either way, it's never a good thing when the whole world gets hold of your code.

Either way, it's never a good thing when the whole world gets hold of your code

Yep, I warned of the same thing in yet another Norton OzBargain thread.

Seems to me that Norton is best left alone.

After all these years, i found all those security suite is just hogging my computer memory and slow it down.

Then i live happily ever after with Microsoft security essentials for free.

    The end.

When i bought a laptop last month the HN sales guy tried selling me "a Norton 3 pack" for $140.
I just laughed at him and said i wouldnt use it even if it was free.
To my surprise he gave me the pack for free after i did the laptop deal.
It's still not loaded on the pc.
maybe i should take it back for a "refund" lol

    • +10

You shop at HN ? What type of Ozbargainer are you ?

A friend called me because Norton was giving too many false alerts on her laptop and slowing it too much!
I told her to WAIT because I was going to her home with a license of Eset.

In the meantime she bought a retail Norton which I REFUSED to install.
Now the laptop is working smoothly with ESET.

PS: She wanted to give the Norton to me but I just refused it, I told her to trash it :)

Norton VS virus. Like fly VS car windscreen.

    • Er, I meant Virus VS Norton. lol.

  • +1

If you are going to use Norton, use 360 Premium.

If you are not going to use 360 Premium, use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Saying Norton is horrible based off some version used a while ago is like saying Windows is horrible as you used Windows Vista (or ME) and it was horrible. I was first to pour hate on Norton a few years ago (they really were horrible) but the newest versions have been great.

No security software is infallible they are really only there to make you feel more comfortable, like a lock on your door, you could have a simple slide bolt with no lock, up to numerous locks and dead bolts, either way if someone really wants to get through the door they will. If you are comfortable with nothing or security suite X and it works then stick with it.

Do what I do and shop around and read reviews etc each year and find the best at the time, each product changes every few years.

    • Norton has burnt so many people; personally it destroyed many of my PC's where it would have been better to have no anti-virus at all, but Norton would not even uninstall! Why would we risk coming back? There are better and free alternatives (ie. AVG).

    • It's not that it was just horrible it was more fundamentally faulty than that. Vista was horrible at first but they did eventually get it right whereas nothing more than a complete redesign of the software would have fixed previous versions of Norton.

I had one customer where we couldn't remove enough of a previous version to install the next they'd just purchased and first, second and third level support from Symantec couldn't help remove it all, they gave up and gave me an RA. When you uninstall software you should actually be able to completely uninstall it yet even after manually scouring the registry and using two "special removal tools" provided by support there was somehow still enough of a trace that it refused to install the next version.

A symantec rep visited us and a few weeks later and it was quite funny as nobody wanted the freebies and we all had a huge bitch about their software so this poor guy, who was only new, came in with a smile and left looking rather sad with a whole new perspective of his employer.

Norton built their reputation on the truly brilliant Disk Doctor but ruined it with incredibly bloated and horribly flawed home anti-virus software however what makes that even worse is their corporate versions were excellent with no noticeable impact on performance.

"nothing more than a complete redesign of the software would have fixed previous versions of Norton"

Which they did, about 4 years ago. I agree that in the 2000-2008 range Norton was more of an annoyance than a security package, but that changed around late 2007-2008.

Seriously, download a trial version of 360 and have a go. It's actually quite nice to deal with.

      • Use whatever makes you feel comfortable and make an educated choice.

Norton works for lots of people and is a much better product then it was before and is much better then most other security suites, as tantryl says you should try it out… even on a sandbox machine or VM, you will be surprised at how different it is to the previous version (I know I was)

  • +2

It's slow. It's expensive (compared to the competition). It's not a deal.

  • +3

OP, can you please limit your ad to 5,000 words or less?

Oh, and it's "Norton". Pass - I had this bloatware once and it acts like a virus. Hides in your computer, refuses to uninstall neatly, and slows everything down.

  • +2

I like Norton. I've tried the others and Norton is the one that works for me (on all my PCs).

This is a great offer. I bought one (under $40 with code). Paid with PayPal.

    • Good luck :P

Norton Internet Security can protect your computer, family and identity from all directions. It can protect from internet threats, bad links, network intruders and Android mobile phone malware, and it makes sure devices and discs you insert into your system are safe and social media interactions are secure. This internet security suite includes parental controls, a two-way firewall, network monitoring, a silent mode and much more to provide total protection.

We were impressed with all aspects of this suite. It has passed all major third-party tests and in some cases scored in the top 15 percent of security software products. It can even create a bootable recovery disc for you in case your computer gets so infected that you cannot start Windows. In addition, it goes beyond basic website ratings. It can provide you website reports before you click on a site, and it quickly checks file sources and age before you click on potentially hazardous links
