Remember that Luxottica owns/licenses many sunglasses 'brands' which are made using cheap plastic and then sold at exorbitantly high prices in an artificially created market. They also own many retail shops selling their own products.

    • It has always stunned me that people pay so much for sunnies, most seem to think they'll get "fake" polarisation on cheaper sunnies, ehich couldn't be further from the truth.

Any good alternatives similar to Oakley that aren't owned by Luxottica?

      • I don't really have any suggestions, just letting people know so they can make their own informed choices when buying <$10 worth of plastic for $200-300.

In the same vein as so many people don't realise Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger etc are no longer designer brands. They were sold off to the garbage Van Heusen company and literally stick their labels on garments from other companies (like G-III Apparel) for a royalty fee. Similar applies to many many brands out there.

In general, don't buy for the brand label. Buy the products that suit you and you like.

        • I wonder if we can do anything about it as they own the manufacturing and the stores and would take over other brands like okley whenever they can. I also find it very difficult to justify paying hundreds of dollars for a few plastic pieces and screws that cost maybe a dollar to manufacture. To be fair I own 2 okley prism sunglasses( bought couple of years back) and love the lense technology and I have not found anything that provides similar comfortable feeling in reasonable price from cancer council or other brands.

        • Well not long ago bought carbon blade without discount…

          Looks like I'm supporting them…

They pretty much own it all. It's a monopoly.

      • Polaroid?

      • Haha, nice try, Luxottica.

    Any bargains ?

  • It's not stacking up.

  • Not sitewide. Doesn't work with stuff on sale.

  • Majority of Oakley glasses are rediculous prices. Have a few pairs, they don't have there service or quality for the price they charged.
Customer service is somewhere overseas and from my experience poor.

  • I got a pair of rayban from one of the Myer deals here and the packing had a slip from luxotica. Does it mean I got fake ones? Should I be complaining to Myer?

    • +2

      no, Luxottica owns Rayban

      • Thanks @Murphy84! Makes me feel so much better !

  • Insane price $440 to get blue light "coating". Prizm™ Gaming - Love gaming? Protect your eyes from fatigue and experience enhanced visual contrast and exceptional blue light filtering.

No doubt they have a monopoly in the eyewear segment

Thanks, picked up a new cycling helmet for $128 delivered (Aro3 Lite)

  • Good to see the sbow helmets on sale. Picked up a mips mod1 for the cheapest price i have seen around.

  • Wow, finally an Oakley deal that includes snow goggles and helmets… About time.

    • Their previous sales since Xmas had 50% off a lot of goggles and some of their helmets were at least 30% off.

      • Bugger! I stand corrected and should have kept a better eye out I guess. All the sales I'd seen previously had excluded them. 50% off goggles is pretty good, would make them worth getting rather than waiting for them to go on sale on Amazon US.
