    Good luck finding stock

    • +4

      I just bought 1

At least 12 stores closer to me has stock

    • Seems plenty of stock. 14 stores within the maximum store checker distance to me had in stock - in fact only 4 near me were out of stock

  • +4

buyer beware, please read the reviews. productreview.com.au/listings/eko-55-smart-uhd-led-tv

    • Seems almost all of the bad reviews are for the Android functionality or the TV's remote, which you could easily get around with an Android box.

      • Doesn't look like this has android, the HD units have full android.

        • +3

I should probably rephrase, merely referring to the "Smart" part of the TV - whatever OS it's using can easily be circumvented with an Android box.

          • @Deviner: I can understand that, we have a "smart" Hisense and it is woeful, no way to add Amazon to it. The available apps in the app store are like C grade apps you would never use like redbull tv or obscure web browsers.

            • @Spendmore: Must be an old one. I have a hisense smart (non-android) TV and it has Netflix, Youtube, Amazon, ABC, SBS and then a bunch that Inever use. I'm not sure if it has Disney+.

              • @macrocephalic: Yeah it's a 2019 model, I wouldn't mind if the apps were half decent or you could sideload but there is no way to add Amazon on this model.

      • Chromecast with Google TV fixes that and is a great addition to most TVs.

I got the Eko 4k 65" qled for $699 late last year and it's been great.

      • What's the point of buying a smart tv if it has crap or no android?

  • What’s the manufacturer’s warranty?

    • +1

12 months. I had a issue, sent an email, never got a reply

      • Contact Bigw. They are very responsive.

      • Thanks, mate. I will probably pass.

    • -1

      none

  • does this come with free netflix for life?

    • It doesn't come with free Netflix to begin with. It just means that it has the Netflix app built into the TV.

      • Doh!

    • +7

only if u have friends 4 lyfe

    • -1

      Yes it does.

  • A friend works at bigw said too many of this tv brand returned by customers

    • thats good… free tv for few months
      then money back

      • Not if it goes faulty after 12 months.

        • +1

You can still use your statutory warranty. A TV is expected to work beyond 12 months.

  • +1

I bought DGTEC TV from Bigw and it stopped working in 2 months. Got money back but I am again in market to buy a cheap TV as I need something only for 12 months.
Not sure if Eko will be fine or trouble again.

    • You get what you pay for…. Can't expect a cheap tv to last decades…..

The better way is get something semi decent with min 3 years warranty and as part of the haggling get them to throw in 2 years extended warranty for free. At lease you will have 5 years peace of mind….

      • Don't even expect a good TV to last decades. My expectation was quite decent for it to stay alive for atleast 12-24 months. I guess too much too ask for.
They all should be banned if their success rate is so bad.

        • +2

Yes even Sonys are made more cheaply and aren't what they used to be, better off not over spending on this stuff. ACL protects you for a while anyway, got my old Sony repaired when the main board failed after 3 years (when out of warranty), and bought the Eko. The sony was a FHD and probably displayed FTA a bit better but was a fairly old model.

YMMV, but the Eko has been good unless you get a bad One. Big W would be easy to deal with at least. Can't speak for this exact model BTW.

    $383 + delivery - PLUSNF4

    • Around $420 to Melbourne, I'd say the $30 is worthwhile to not have to drive to Big W.

  • +1

not sure why I bought one! lol

    thanks op

have too much money from jobkeeper?

      • Rip my tax

      • +6

kiwis do not get any jobkeeper stuff. we work hard bro.

        • Kiwis got jobkeeper but most didn’t apply but Kiwis don’t get jobseeker, hardship etc. and liked your comment that “youz” are hard workers, ones that are here anyways 😂

Plan on having an ethernet connection, WiFi4/n isn't good enough for consistent 4K streaming.

    • Ah yes it is

I stream Plex 4K Remuxes over wifi

      Streaming is no hassle

      • Do you have WiFi5/AC?

    • +1

Blanket statements like that dont stick man; it depends on the bitrate youve encoded at.

But even then, wifi4 allows up to 600Mbps; even if you halve that, it's still more than 6x the throughput you'll need for high quality 4k.

Netflix 4k is only encoded at 25Mbps.

And plex officially recommends "150Mbps or faster"

      Wireless N (4) is capable of 300Mbps.

    • +1

I have the 65in version and havent had any issue with 4k streaming.

I purchased this tv not too long ago as it was posted on here for $299.

I would avoid this tv for the following reasons
    1. Remote stops communicating with the tv randomly and you need to unplug the tv from the wall socket and turn it back on for it to work. Ayonz sent me a replacement remote and fault is still there. Out of the box it says it is up to date with latest firmware.

    1. Soundbar connection is quite poor. Although it his HDMI Arc, it works intermittently and you have to keep playing around with the settings as it seems to reset itself.

    2. Ayonz doesn’t provide in-house warranty for this model. They only provide it for TVs 55inch and above lol. Can you believe this crap?!

I took the tv back to Bigw and they didn’t refund me as they couldn’t replicate the fault at the time it was Brought in.

Reviews are also pretty bad. I should have done my research before purchasing.

    • I took the tv back to Bigw and they didn’t refund me

So you have to take it home again? Do you still use it?

  • Bought one at $299, sold it for $295 on facebook the next day.
The sound and the image quality are terrible.

What's with all these TV's and monitors having LED in their names. Are they trying to make us think these are OLED panels?

    • +2

No, just telling us their backlight technology, like usual.

Good to know you're not buying ancient ccfl models.

      • Okay, thanks. That makes sense.

  • -1

The qled is so much better

  • +1

Well I'm stoked with my 75 inch LED Eko. Although it is Android. I personally couldn't use a smart TV if it wasn't Android. I've had it since the start of Feb and upgraded from a pretty ancient Sony Bravia that was probably a little over 10 years old. So maybe I just don't know what else is out there and how much better a TV can be.

To me the picture is great, vibrant colours and good darks. Contrast is great. OS is snappy, but again mine is Android so it is probably different on this model. You might want a sound bar or similar, but my stock speakers are doing fine for general use so far.

  • Read the reviews before you buy !

  • It's cheap and it's tempting, but after reading a few reviews seems these things fall of a cliff pretty easy.

I don't have time to deal with dead TV's. Better to just get a Hisense with a 3 year warranty and be done with it.

    • -1

Should just buy a Sony/Samsung then pal

    • ChiQ if you need cheap and 3yr.
      EliteLUX offer 24Month.
Some of the SONIQ come with 3 year.

The benefit is, so long as you buy bigger than 32" It's all in-home service, so while it's not ideal, the grand total of your 'effort' is simply being home.
