Good price, and a reminder as well to check Good Guys Commercial if you have access to that and not Plus. I think I paid $182 the other week through GGC.

  • I dont have issue with wifi but I have so many wirelss devices in house and sometimes getting message Can not assign IP , AP full .
I got HG659 Huawei router , Is this Deco or which other product can handle 50-60 devices to resolve this issue

    • I believe this can handle over 100 devices. Quality will depend on your setup and whether you use the Ethernet back-haul feature. However it’ll do a much better job than what you currently have.

      • I can connect one D5 via ethernet near HG659 .
So my HG659 router can assign IP to D5 and other wired connected devices and D5 can take care of devices conncted on wifi ?

        • Do you have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

          • +1

            @Twix: FTTP

            • @bzybee: Login to your Superloop account and reset the connection. After that hook up one Deco M5 direct to the NBN box.

              • @Twix: Oh that is good, but might need to put a switch ahead deco as it got only two Eth ports where as HG659 has 4

                • @bzybee: A switch goes after the Deco. NBN box —-> Deco M5 —-> switch.

            • @bzybee: NBN - Superloop

I have a large number of devices and IOT things hanging off the side of mine. CPU utilisation sits high but never had any issues. I use ethernet backhaul the biggest draw back from this product is lack of dedicated radio for backhaul if you need that feature.

I have a 3 pack at home and am installing them in family members homes these days.

Mate you just need to increase your DHCP address limit to 254 or increase amount of subnets. No need to buy new hardware (though at a certain point you will get slow downs if everything is going full throttle, obviously :P).

    • Would these work seamlessly if they were set up wired instead of Wireless mesh ?

      • Yes the Deco's can be wired up to each other.

      • +2

Yes cable backbone is the prefered way if you can do it.

    Purchased, thanks!

These are great, easy to setup, they just work like you would expect them to. Good Price

  • did the price went up to $256 ?

    • Yes, very dodgy. This seller has a couple of this and all jacked up. Edited: Yes, they changed the way it is shown. There is an additional discount ($50).

Nope.. add to cart.. you get an extra $50 off, then do the promo

      • They put the price up to $217.60.

i can confirm this has been rectified, there was a time lag between the seller updating the price and then adding additional $50 off coupon hence the increase in price but seems to be working fine now

  • Great price. didn't pay much less for two. Two does do my house perfectly. Just works!

Seller has raised the price so no longer a deal. Check out TGG Commercial to get it for $182 delivered: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/597460

as per previous messages, once you add to cart it shows up correctly

      • No need to neg. Someone else reported it. I’ll update the post.

  • Would 2 M9s be better than 3 M5s? Price difference is roughly an extra $110

    • Depends on your needs. If you've got long distances to cover, I'd hazard a guess that 3 would work better.
House layout makes a big difference.

    • +1

I recently bought a M9 plus (2 pack) and based on all the reviews, 2 M9s should provide the same coverage as 3 M5s.

The M9s are Triband meaning they use a dedicated channel for back haul but the M5s don't.

      https://www.androidcentral.com/tp-link-deco-m9-plus-vs-deco-…

      • Thanks. The triband and AC2200 was a big draw card but I was most hoping for some first-hand experience from somebody like yourself rather than marketing stat's.

Relatively simple to install and get going?

        • Simple enough to do with the TP-Link app. The setup depends on your NBN. Do you have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

          • @Twix: Uhh I believe I have Opticomm's FTTP

            • @ExtraSalt: Disconnect the router being used. Hook up one Deco M5 direct to the Opticomm box.

        • I got the M9 two pack last year, love it.

The internet comes into my place at the far end of the house in the corner of one room so wifi coverage was always an issue, even with an extender, was never much of an issue until I started working from home then I noticed how patchy the wifi was because I was home all the time.

Anyway, got the M9 and it's been flawless, even just the one unit gave coverage to the whole house (4 bedroom single story) despite being located at one end. Setup is super easy too, only took a few minutes to setup.

  • My local Bunnings were clearing these for $250. Obviously getting ready for WiFi 6 replacements like X20.

Good units at these prices, but there is better stuff coming down the line.

    • +3

Clearance price of $250 is a terrible price.

      • The point is they must be going end of sale, so everywhere will be starting to sell down stock.

Mine have been great little units in AP mode,

$250 isn’t a bargain, but I’d reckon it is a fair price if it solves a problem and you needed something and didn’t want to wait.

        • Bunnings was $229 for the 3-pack back in Feb.

  • I have the Tenda MW6 connected to a modem which is connected to the NBN box.
I do this as I read you do not have any protection if plugged directly to the NBN box.
Will security etc be better then the Tenda if I plug straight into the NBN box?

    • Nah the nbn box is a modem and your MW6 router has a firewall. Having an extra modem between the NBN box and the MW6 can even cause problems. There is no difference for the security. Who is your internet provider?

      • I’m with superloop on HFC

        • The extra modem isn't doing anything. Login to your Superloop account and reset the connection. After that hook up one MW6 direct to the NBN box.

          • @Twix: I found this online

“This does have some nice features, including parental control, but lacks a firewall, so you will only be advised to use the nova MW6 as an add-on for a router that does have decent firewall protection.“

            The decoM5 has firewall right?

            • @zemphism: Deco M5 = built-in SPI firewall.

            • @zemphism: I don't know why that KitGuru review says the MW6 doesn't have a firewall. From the MW6 specs it has a firewall.

              Firewall
              Forbid UDP flood attack
              Forbid TCP flood attack
              Forbid flood attack

  • Can I integrate it with my already existing Google wifi?

    • Nah purchase more Google Wi-Fi or Nest Wi-Fi to add to your setup or swap Google Wi-Fi out for the Deco.

  • are the end-points / APs powered by PoE ?

where is the routing / switching taking place ?
    ( is there a router/switch included ? )

    • +3

Nah all Deco's use a power brick and don't have PoE. The router is built-in and is taking place on the first Deco. There are two Gig Ethernet ports on every Deco M5.

      • +2

Correct, the first deco is your router. I've then put in a 24 port switch and run ethernet from there to the NAS, TVs, PS, desktop PCs and other decos which just act as APs.

Im never buying from Wireless1 again. My mouse had a defect and they called it wear and tear. Glue melting and all the pads falling off is not wear and tear after 8 months.

    Useless

    • +1

      Hi Skramit,

Thanks for your feedback and sorry about your experience.

Please PM me about your order # and dates We will look into it and provide possible solutions to this.

      Thanks,

  • Hello,

Am kinda new to Mesh wifi. I was wondering should I go with Tenda MW12 or this?

I am more interested to know the superior product between two of them specs wise!

    Thanks

    • M5 and MW12 is not a fair comparison. Deco M9 competes against the MW12. How fast is your nbn? Who is your ISP?

      • Provider - Vodafone
        Speed - 1000mbps

At the moment I am using the modem supplied by Vodafone as part of 24 months contract.

Its a large house with 2floors. Also, I have data points in most of the rooms.

        • Going by the specs the M9 should outperform the MW12. M9 has a quad-core 717Mhz CPU, 512MB of RAM and is capable of around 908Mbps on Ethernet and around 500Mbps on Wi-Fi.

          MW12 has a dual-core 900MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM. I can't find the maximum speed the MW12 delivers.

  • Does the M5 allow you do change your DNS address to a specific IP, like if I were running a pihole and were resolving DNS requests on the Pi. Currently running DHCP on the Pi due to limitations of Telstra modem.

Looks like you can (M9) configure DHCP and DNS… M9 looks tempting.

    • +1

I don’t think so. I use Getflix and I was unable to use the US dns routing thing so that I can watch US Netflix due to limitations with the deco m5. Wouldn’t let me configure that and apparently you just can’t do it with the m6. Otherwise I highly recommend these. Soooooo much faster than my previous setup and it’s almost as fast from the opposite side of my house.

      • @Godlike - go into Advanced > DHCP server and then you'll see Primary and Secondary DNS server options.

    • Yes it does mate 👍

  • Urgh. Got these last deal. My trusty Chromecast Audio, which previously never skipped a beat with my old modem, constantly cut in and out.

Did a speedtest with just the one unit hooked up. Very fast (while seated right next to it). Hooked up a 2nd and the speed on the main unit plummeted severely.

Will be flogging off on Gumtree at a fair loss, I'd imagine.

Still, many people swear by them so YMMV…

    • P.S. the in-app speedtest goes off your main (ethernet connected) unit, no matter which unit you're actually connected to. Had me confused for a while!

  • +1

I have this system but paid a good bit more for it last year. Great price and works very well.

  • Hey folks,

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before, I have Telstra FTTN NBN connection, would I be able to use this with my existing modem to extend the range?

    Thanks,

    • +2

Yes. Put your exisiting modem into bridge mode. Ethernet from it into this and then let this do all the work. :)

  • Hi,

Any recommendation for a mesh network for a small office.

Want something quick and reliable for business and probably will need two access points. 90m2 upstairs and 80m2 downstairs basement plus Ethernet ports for security cams etc.

  • +1

    Says code expired?

    Edit: PLUSFL15 deal expired

  • Guys would this solve the problem of bad internet in a big home due to wall interference and the router being in a corner?

Or should I invest in getting physical LAN points made for my room with cabling?

    • Yes this would be a great solution for your problem.

      Source: had the same problem.

      • Thanks mate but currently I have an extender and its shit!

100 Mbps connection but get 20 Mbps in my room and it drops.

CS Go is unplayable due to bad ping. Will a mesh be as bad. I know mesh is not the same as LAN but I hope to get at least 75 Mbps and good ping for gaming.

        • Yeah, extenders are dog shit for that.

I get full speed from my mesh system using 5ghz. I wish I had done it sooner than I did, to be honest.

If you can't be bothered with the mesh system, have you thought about a powerline ethernet adapter?

  • How have you mounted these? Bought the last deal without a close look, wanted to be able to mount them to the roof but no easy mount point and no poe. Double sided tape? Velcro picture hooks?
