I believe better to choose 16GB+512GB, where 16GB will give you dual channel setup. ~$1500 after 7% code, not bad

agree completely with 16gb being a better choice, but thought it's better to post the baseline deal with people able to add options as they see fit :)

    • How to enable dual channel for 16GB XPS? Is it a preset mode?

      • +1

I believe simply that 16GB are 2 sets of RAM, where 8GB only has 1 set. It is similar to 2 modules of normal laptop's SO-DIMM RAM, but LPDDR4x used in XPS13 is different packaging.

You could check the BIOS but I imagine it's on by default for all 16gb versions, since they should have 2x8gb soldered 'modules'

  • If you check Ebay, it's always around that price so not even a deal. I think Dell pushed their rrp up for this one. Personally, i got it for 1k when Ebay was having the 25% off

    • $1k for the 11th gen? That would be a good deal.

      • My thought exactly haha

  • Genuine question, why would this deal for the xps be better than the deal for the Inspiron?

      XPS > Inspiron

      • +1

haha i figured that was the simple answer but why? I havent paid attention to laptop tech for 10 years.

        • +3

Things like battery life, weight, nice carbon fiber finish instead of the nasty plastic on Inspirons etc.

Most important to me is the way nicer, brighter screen. But yeah nothing wrong with Inspiron for the price.

Shopback tracked for me when stacking codes recently.

  • Why are the warranty's for dell XPS 13's always so absurdly expensive. $475 for 3 years, come on dell.

    • +1

Yeah XPS is on the premium at home service warranty so it's expensive.

When your order through Dell Business you can actually downgrade warranty tiers to save money.

    • Just rely on ACL

  • No touch screen though

  • Does the hot air still come from the bottom of this laptop or have they fixed the issue? have they also fixed the coil whine from previous models?

    • It appears they've fixed the coil whine. But in my deep dive into this model, fan noise is still an issue on the XPS. It's not OBNOXIOUS, but it's apparently noticeable enough. If you do want a WHISPER QUIET laptop and that's a big deal for you, the macbook air is the kingpin atm.

      • fair, I have dealt with my noisy xps 13 from 2014 till now so I will probably survive if i got this model lol

        • Yea I have heard it is an improvement. The Dell XPS 13" is still the king of ultrabooks. The HP envy is not a bad alternative.

          • @Timmayc123: What about the new surface laptop? that was the other one i was considering

      • +1

The xps 9380 is my first xps 13. I recall reading some reviews and saw mention that they've included cooling profiles in this model (which is a previous gen of this). I've set mine on quiet, because like other people I found it kicking in at full blast with little load to be annoying.

It has helped heaps, but for some reason as soon as I plug it into a power point the threshold changes and it is more likely to kick in. Otherwise it is dead silent for the light work I do on it.

A sort of bonus with this laptop, is that dell sells a foam sleeve that fits this laptop like a glove, which minimises the footprint and provide good drop protection. I only wish I bought an extra one when they were on sale for $15. Whereas the current xps dont have that foam
