[eBay Plus] Chef's Choice Trizor XV 15 Electric Knife Sharpener $348.92 Delivered @ Knives Online eBay

100
PAPR15

EDIT: Unfortunately people who ordered are receiving invalid CouriersPlease tracking numbers. The seller has a history of scamming people, not sending items & avoiding backcharge.

A historic low for arguably one of (the?) best electric knife sharpeners on the market. Sharpens/polishes straight edge & polishes serrated knives to 15 degrees, including converting 20 degree knives over (in case you're carrying European-style or unsure of the knife edge angle).

Chef's Choice Trizor XV 15 features a 3-Stage EdgeSelect sharpening system with Stage 1 & 2 using diamond abrasives to sharpen and hone the edge along with Stage 3 uses a patented flexible abrasive system to polish your straight-edge & serrated knives.

It's regularly priced at $400+ thanks to a stacking of existing "40% discount" (cough, thanks Jack) to a normal RRP but then an actual 15% discount promotion, free delivery for eBay Plus thanks to limited promo code brings it down to $348.92 delivered.

Ps. You can find the USA model for USD $150 pre-shipping, pre-GST however the voltage requires a transformer, not ideal or practical. Unfortunately we get the Aussie tax to get local models but as a lifetime purchase, been watching this for a while and at this price worth grabbing.

  • I've had one of these for about 4 years.. Can recommend.
Other sharpeners are either manual or just straighten the blade, the manual ones can be very finicky.. this machine takes some of the guess work out and creates the correct angle for the blade, it also has a finishing stage I think it's diamond.

    • I had one too and can recommend it as well. I tried all sorts of manual sharpeners but could never really master any of them. You're guaranteed the end result using one of these machines.

    Damn. Out of stock unfortunately.

  • Damn, I also wanted to buy one of these!

  • Hey folks, my spidey sense tells me something is amiss here. Potential scam warning.

I got a phone call today (02 8091 2444) saying that the product was not in stock with a 6 week delay. Being the workday and hungry for the deal,I said no worries I'm happy to wait. I checked eBay now and strangely, it states I have already got a Couriers Please tracking notification attached (which has "No scan events found" on it).

I did a Google search on the number that confirms it's from Chalet Knives Online but the Product Reviews are scathing and aligned to my immediate experience of cancelled item, or shipping but not really.

I'd love advice on how to cancel this via eBay, anyone have a guide?

    • Hey mate. I had the same phone call although from a different number (0420427743) and the person on the other end told me the exact same thing. I also said I am happy to wait. I asked them if it is out of stock why was it marked as shipped with a tracking number. And I was told by the individual that it was an "automatic" thing and to ignore it. At this point and after reading your comment, I am quite skeptical and am thinking I will just try to contact eBay and see what they make of the situation. For the record, I did record their call because all of this seemed quite dodgy to me. Let me know if you have taken any steps to resolve this and the outcome. Best of luck to you mate.

      • I too had a call from 'Leroy' at 0420 427 743 but I did not record the call, so I'm glad you did. Did a quick search and found www.chalet.net.au and Unit D8/32 Sirius Road, Lane Cove West NSW 2066, Australia as address, given Knives-Online resolves to a NSW P.O. Box ABN 72 110 230 003. When I did a deeper search on Ozbargain I found post after post on Chalet that gives me vibes.

The options to resolve seem difficult given the item has 'shipping' eBay can't cancel it until my delivery date, at least that's what the web-based after hours service tells me. I'm worried too about the non-existant package via CouriersPlease and possibility it'll be left to linger, rather than just cancelling now. Let's sync up on DM about how to resolve, post back here to share the love with community.

The best thread on resolving with this vendor
"was the seller "discountbrandsaustralia" (aka chaletessentials.com.au or knivesonline.com.au)? I think they just tried to pull the same move on me.
Sent an tracking number by couriers please which never worked on the tracking website, then I noticed on eBay they suddenly changed to an Australia Post tracking number. Luckily eBay stepped in and I got refunded" by user ssjwill on 27/06/2018 - 02:26

"eBay just stepped in after the normal wait. I emailed chaletessentials and got a reply from a "Sammy Jones" giving me the run around saying "I tried calling couriers please but was on hold for 40min, I'll try again tomorrow" etc etc. "Unfortunately, we didn't receive valid tracking information from the seller. We're sorry you had a problem with your purchase." Edit: It's a shame because they were part of the ebay 20% off sale and most of their reviews are ok…but then delving into their negative feedback I can see quite a few buyers having the same issue by user ssjwill on 27/06/2018"

The best general advise I'd seen so far is:
        - Always pay by credit card via PayPal, then you can still do a charge-back with your bank.
        - Just like they did to you, its all you need to do to them. Send SOMETHING back with tracking to them.
        - For paypal buyer protection the seller also needs to provide proof they sent it to the address you provided.
        - OP, lodge a dispute against PayPal with the Financial Industry Ombudsman. PayPal will credit your account with your $200+ dollars in a couple of days as "a gesture of goodwill" (as reported on OzBargain many times). Don't waste anymore time talking directly to PayPal or eBay. Best of luck.

        • I've had a similar experience with a niche expensive coffee grinder in the past that the price seemed too good to be true. They sent me a tracking number and all but after their account got removed from eBay I contacted support. They eventually sent me a cheap salt grinder with tracking.. worth persuing early on as I imagine it arrives after the returns date.

@kuwahshi: The reason I trusted them is they were listed on the 15% discount offer by eBay, eBay Plus account, the relatively positive star rating, being related to an online retailer, listing of Australian address (albeit post officebox). I never thought I'd have to worry about being scammed under those circumstances. Also — Weird that all the scams are around kitchen appliances!
