  • +1

Thanks got one. Use W1M12 for 12% off instead of 10%. Need to make a wireless1 account.

    • Thanks. Added to the description :)

  • Yeah I used W1M12 too, $301.12 is probably the cheapest it's ever been.

  • Whats the difference between AX56U and AX86U?

AX56U is a mid-class while AX86U is top class router
If you have Wifi6 devices (eg. iPhone 11 onwards)
you can potentially reach up to 5700Mbps using AX86U
tho in Australia the bottleneck is from the NBN speed..

      • What speeds can I get from AX56U then?? They are both wifi 6 routers…

      • +1

iPhone 11 WiFi is only 802.11ax with 2x2 MIMO so maximum theoretical for that device is only 877Mbps, no?
And the maximum data rate on the RT-AX86U is only 4804Mbps over 5Ghz with 160MHz wide channels (to supported clients).

          thanks for the clarification
I dont mean by iphone 11 can reach up to that speed (just saying its an example of Wifi6 device) :)

in reality, I think router like AX86U or AX88U with 4 x 4 MU-MIMO is great if combining with another same level router
to form Mesh network using AiMesh

only downside I have heard of these 2 routers are, they are both dual-band
so if forming mesh network with an additional tri-band router
the 3rd band will be off?

But for my case, as I am using hardwire backbone
(AX88U as primary router, with 2 AC68U as nodes)
pretty happy with my current setup

  • tried to check out but already out of stock

    • sorry to hear, price is just too good…

      • I know. perhaps just few seconds late. was still available when adding into the cart.

  • how's this compared to the 88U? And any deals on the 88U?

    • +1

      just created a deal for 88U :)
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/618466

      • ooooof back to sub-400!!

Damn the 2x USB ports in the 86U would have come in handy to plug my printer in for wireless printing and USB HDD for media server.

Please get more stock Wireless1 lol.

        • LOL, the latitude pay promo end in 2 days, so hopefully they will restock
while I posted the deal actually I didn't bought it myself (already using ax88u)
my printer has wireless connectivity already and I have a NAS too
so the USB ports are currently vacant … :)

          • @littlesoldier: How is the NAS performance on AX88U ?
I just learned AX86U has 2.5G port and AX88U does not. Thought I future proofed myself when I bought AX88U but now planning to buy a NAS just not sure if I have to get another modem for example for 4K playback etc. ?

            • +2

@BaarOzGain: Most NAS in the current market still doesn't comes with a 2.5Gbps port
they usually come with 2 x 1Gbps ports which will work with AX86U / AX88U by connecting both Lan ports (Link aggregation)

Note that Link aggregation is to provide 2 channels to the NAS
but a single user can only get up to 1Gbps speed to NAS at anytime
the main advantage is when there are 2 users connecting to NAS at the same time
instead of both sharing the 1Gbps link (each has 500Mbps)
now each user take the whole 1Gbps link

In order for NAS to get the 2.5Gbps port
there are some 2.5Gbps USB adaptor in the market
Tho not all NAS support using third-party USB network adaptor
eg. For Synology NAS, there are some 2.5Gbps adaptor that "might" work: https://nascompares.com/answer/2-5-gbe-usb-adapter-for-synol…

              How Link aggregation works:
              https://www.asus.com/au/support/FAQ/1016088/

        • the 88u has 2 usb ports also.

          • @xoom: Oh nice. Thanks for correcting. I keep reading reports there’s only 1.

            • @itsmehuey: Could be because the front usb port is covered. The back one is exposed. So most pics of device you don't get to see the front usb port.

  • Can someone recommend me a network card adapter to accommodate this router?

    Thanks in advance :)
