  • Is this the updated version or something? Aren't these use to be $150?

    • Yes this is for the mirrorless Canon RF Mount so only for the newer R series cameras.

      • Oh i see, I'm showing my age here

        • Yes. Because the one you mentioned, the RRP is now $199 not $150 :(

    • I paid a bit less than that a couple of years ago.

      Edit, I thought I did but I was wrong, it cost more to be nifty these days.

      • Only came out last year? :)
        You're probably thinking of the EF lens.

    • That would be an EF 50mm, and yep were $150 forever

      • Also note that there were two f/1.8 EF 50’s - the newer version’s price is/was a bit higher.

    good deal actually…

    works out to be the same price with digidirect IF they had a 20% off sale.

    their current RRP for this lens sits at $350. So 20% off (which is pretty rare for canon RF lens) would bring it down to about $280.

    Pulled the trigger. No money for L lens at the moment in the RF mount, so the cheap trinity of primes will have to do for the time being.

    Thanks to OP for the post!!!

    Yeah also grab the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM and Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. A great set of prime lenses for under $2k. Very helpful when you already spent the money of a car to buy a R5/R6.

  • This one or should I get the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM, disregarding FOV, which has the better IQ etc

    • what does IQ stand for in the photography world?

      • Image Quality

    • I’m not sure if there is a massive difference but haven’t read any direct comparisons. I think the primary factor would be FOV and what other lens you already have. Otherwise:
      * The 35mm has a higher maximum magnification (0.5 vs 0.25 I think)
      * The 35mm has the image stabilisation
      * The 50mm is cheaper :-)

        spot on i think

        i already have the sigma EF 1.4Art 35mm……not happy with the sharpness so looking to sell that and get the RF version…

        really enjoying the RF 85mm F2 atm…

        don't think u could go wrong with either 35mm or 50mm…just preference on your FOV

        now also wondering whether i should pull the trigger on the RF 800mm f11…..so tempting..
