The better one for entertaining and storage is the one which doesnt take the most room on the table.

For individual use, get the smallest sized one.

  • seems to be the cheapest. not bad…

  • +1

Now that is cheap. I bought a similar Sunbeam model at Myer for around $60 sale price just before Christmas. Luckily I returned it after seeing cheaper steamers elsewhere. Kmart and Aldi have steamers at around $30 as well.
Tried having steamed prawn dimsum as part of our Christmas dinner menu, it was a hit. This simple dish ran out before anybody even touched the turkey, ham and fresh seafood.
Most Important Feature to watch out for: A food steamer with an external water fill makes it convenient to add water anytime you please during the steaming process.

  • Thanks OP bought one.
    Staff Discount makes it $28.50.

  • nice, is it a plastic or glass?

    • I'm gonna say plastic.

    Thanks OP. :)

  • Thanks OP, have been looking for one!

  • Anyone know if the trays are BPA free?

    • +1

I haven't found one yet that ISN'T polycarbonate! I've been reduced to using a stainless steel pot and steamer on the stove :(

      • yup. According to the sunbeam manual my stainless steel pot cooks faster anyways.

  • +1

Meh, with electricity prices these days, you're better off using a pot and a steamer basket on gas.

  • There is a link to the manual on the sunbeam website if anyone wants to check it out before they buy. Its got cooking times, cleaning methods, recipes etc.

Sounds like a good deal though. I'm not sure I need one, but feel I want one lol. I think I will pass for now.

I've been counting the days when some chinese company thinks it'd be funny to brand one of these 'Cleveland'.

Considered it but the plastic factor saw me opt-out of a purchase. If it were BPA-free I could have been swayed but no mention of that anywhere and I'm not keen to steam the kids food in it otherwise.

I did hear once that BPA-free plastic has a lower melting point.

Shame there isn't a glass model available.

Great buy for the right person though.

    Cheers.
