Who are they a front for? Hopefully not fastway/aramex

    • +3

They use Toll as their agent.

      • -3

Thanks. Wish I could say they weren't just as bad.

        • +22

I’ve always found toll to have very good serviceand quick turnaround both with my workplace and as a customer myself

          • @JAF: I've mostly found they are lazy and incompetent and those that aren't used those words to describe their colleagues. Use at your own risk.

        • +20

Sorry but I disagree. Toll are a gazillion times better than Aramex/Fastway. To be clear, I think that Fastway are so absymal that they're in a league of their own!

          • +2

@littlegreenman: Indeed, whenever I use Sendles's pickup service, Couriers Please have always picked it up on the scheduled day, while Fastway have always picked it up a day late…

            • +3

@Shiny Mew: I had a parcel being sent to me to be picked up at 7/11 via Couriers Please. It was $600 worth of SSD's. They couldn't locate the driver, didn't know where the parcel was. Promised they were looking into it, then never heard back.

I came home to the parcel half-hanging from my postbox, in a downpour.

FYI. Might have been bad luck, but in no way will I use their services again.

          • +6

@littlegreenman: When you don't have a problem toll is fine.

When I had a problem they:
Damaged it (speared through the outer carton). Huge hole. Couldn't miss it.
Delivered and ran away. I was home. They didn't ring the bell. The article required a signature, so they weren't allowed to do this. They were deviously trying to make sure I couldn't reject delivery!
I called and after I said there was a problem the call centre woman pretended she couldn't hear me.
I called back and got the same woman. I started by saying "I just called about a problem" and she hung up immediately!
They picked up the package as a return, they gave no warning they were even coming so it's lucky I was home.

          • -7

            @littlegreenman: "gazillion" wtf is that?

        • +2

I've had the worst experience with TOLL's delivery service. Parcels being marked as delivered when they haven't been, random delays and rerouting etc. YMMV but I personally wouldn't trust them with anything time sensitive.

      • Toll is totally disaster every time the sender chose to use them, also comment from Product Review got 4k negative more than all in total. 99% untrusted. I also need to go to newsagency today again to find out who collected my parcel that was attempted to deliver to me while am home all day. :(

    • +2

Aramex local deliveries in Syd take a week for me. Even on the day they have status out for delivery, they often don't deliver till next day….the parcel is checked out for delivery at 7am then that evening checks back into warehouse on the same day at 6pm then goes out for delivery again next day. They usually deliver to my neighbours even though my house number is pretty clear on the mailbox out front. Aussie post never misses, aramex tho…

    • DHL also drops off at 7-Eleven.

  • +2

Anyone know what the comparable size/cost would be at Auspost?

    • +8

$9.40, but that's up to 5kg. This one is only up to 1kg.

      • +1

Toll only cares about if the item fit the satchel/box.

      • Is the 7-11 satchel the same size as an AusPost small satchel?

  • +2

Cheapest auspost is 8.95 I think

But you can buy registered post for $4.5 plus stamp too, so at least $5.6 for smallest trackable parcel

    • +8

Sorry auspost raised their prices beginning March. It’s 9.15 now.

      • +1

Yeah my bad sorry i wasnt sure about the price change, havent posted with them in a long time. Its extremely frustrating, Auspost increase their price, Sendle, and eBay auspost increases at the same time too. Although to be honest these companies are only making more money with more shipments and online businesses and wants us to pay them even more, so they earn even more, from extra prices and extra shipments.
        I find it ridiculous.

        • -3

Auspost handle more incoming mail than outgoing, not sure how you think they 'make money' with more shipments and online businesses… infact this causes tremendous strain and cost on the system. I presume you have a failure of understanding about how Auspost operates and makes money, which is on outgoing mail, not incoming.

          • @sk3iron: So if 1 shipment, 1 person pays auspost $9.15
            2 shipments, 2 person pay $9.15 each
            X shipments,.x persons pay 9.15x $ each.

Okay, that's very basic so them getting more packages means them able to earn more $$ per 1 shipment route e.g. melbourne to sydney.

Surely the increased packages puts more strain on auspost and other couriers too, for needing more transportation vehicles, employees etc.

But overall they are gonna still be earning way more then before even if they revert the standard postage price.

It's only really australia post making excuses for wanting to be greddier and charge customers more money. Not to forget the stupid reason couriers make delay due to "covid-19" when there is no major covid outbreak or restriction.

If what you said is true then consider scanrio where there's very little shipments, the postage costs will be much higher because courier need to cover its own costs and hence not increasing price if route isn't profitable. e.g. airlines flying to rural are expensive than ones flying to metro because of this same reason more people fly metro, hence cost per person is less.

          • +2

@sk3iron: Not true. For many years, the parcel division of Australia Post has subsidised the letters division of AP and substantially - i.e. its operations are highly profitable. Sure, anything extra has variable costs, but the point is the revenue from it earns way more than it costs. Ergo, increasing its volume increases profits even more. It's not user Dc who has the lack of understanding about how Auspost makes money.

          • @sk3iron: Usually Australia Post delivers to wrong apartment and takes a lot of effort for them to admit in writing messed up, then u have to get sender to replace which can be easy or a nightmare. Yet to find any decent delivery service unless sent to postal collect at local post office but they only handle aust post deliveries and people wonder why I don't order online…

  • Sadly no 711 in SA

    • I'm surprised, we have them in Perth.

      • +1

Apparently they didn't want to compete with Peregrine's On The Run, so when 7 Eleven bought all the Mobils around Australia they made a deal with Peregrine where they'd buy the SA ones.

I wouldn't be surprised if 7 Eleven did start opening a few South Australian stores soon, though; given that On The Run is slowly starting to open stores in Victoria (albeit in country Western Victoria at the moment).

        • Ah that makes sense if there's already a major player there.

        • Apparently they didn't want to compete with Peregrine's On The Run

Yep can't have two dodgy chains running in one state!

given that On The Run is slowly starting to open stores in Victoria

Whereabouts? I travel to SA frequently and the closest one I see is in Bordertown

          EDIT: From C-Store:

It already has two stores in the Victorian towns of Portland and Irymple with four more planned to open in 2020 in Horsham, Stawell and Mildura.

Interesting. I've never seen them there. Will keep an eye open

          • @Cyphar: Peregrine / OTR are unstoppable.

I find it interesting how major players (Coles, Woolies) can't compete with these companies. The only successful servo companies are either:

            1) Franchised, so all the dodginess/wage theft/underpayment can be denied by head office (7-11)
            2) Privately run, so they don't have the transparency (and potential repetitional damage) that a publicly listed company would face.

Everyone knows that OTR/peregrine are putting their staff on "automotive traineeships", then firing them / taking away their hours or waiting for them to quit when the traineeship ends. And yet nobody on either side of politics in SA is willing to do anything about it.

    • +1

I do do without the post, but I like my cheap slurpees and coffee and snacks

    • Thanks for saving me time to find the closest 711 in North Adeaide. Now I can cross off sending mothers day present using this deal.

  • +4

Not as good as $1, but $5 is just as good!

Here are some more discussions from the previous deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/582756

  • +1

I still have some left over to an address from the $1 deal that I use regularly :)
1 year expiry is my understanding .

  • Good thing with this is no weight limit as long as it fits

Was thinking of sending a brick for $1 before

  • +1

They should make this permanent. Good service!

  • Does the price include the satchel or box? Or do you need to bring your own/buy it separately?

    • +2

Last time it just included the a4 size satchel. I sent many packages. The delivery time was quick to metro areas but some regional areas were not covered and had a surcharge. The packaging is free you just pay to generate the Toll label. The system to book is a bit slow/frustrating if you are sending multiple parcels as you need to re-enter all the sender details each time. Otherwise most of the packages arrived promptly with a few left at news agents if the person wasn’t home.

  • +1

Only if they can make sure their kiosks are working properly!
Last time drove to THREE different 7-11s and none of the kiosks worked so I had to go back to AusPost. I lodged a complaint to 7-11 for wasting my petrol and my time, but only got a standard reply.
    Never again.

    • +1

Agreed only some kiosks are reliable

I feel like eventually the partnership will end

    • UPDATE: Decided to give it another go last Monday. Only got told when I arrived at the shop that there was not even ParcelMate Kiosk there but it listed on their website as available…
7-11 you should pay for my time…

  • +1

    Do these have tracking?

  • +1

OF course it has tracking . Personally no way I would pay $5 for them . Maybe $2-$3 max. Bear in mind I pay $6 for the $9.15 Aust Post and pro rata for the high ones .
    Anyway 2 tips .
    a) Have the mobile number of receiver . Don't use them if you don't.
    b) Anything that PO Box or Unit before the address the system has trouble picking them up .

    • I used 0400000000 for mobile number of receiver and managed to send my parcels without any issues

      • Dumb idea as some may end up in the 7/11 lockers and the receiver not going to be happy not knowing it is there for collection .

        • That's true. Cos tracking a parcel is too hard for some and sms notification is a necessity.

    • How do you get the $9.15 ones for $6? Much rather use Auspost

      • +1

Sign up for a business account, and AusPost have an ongoing promo to upgrade you to their Band 3 of sender discounts. I'm currently at Band 3, and it costs me $6.41 to send any regular parcel under 500g (or any auspost prepaid small box under 5 kg) within Sydney and its surrounds.

        Here's a useful guide

Edit: To get the promo activated, you may need to get this done at your local AusPost. There is a generic promo code that they use to create your account (I can't remember it, maybe someone else can pitch in), which gives you the Band 3 benefit almost immediately.

        • Assuming you have to actually be a business for this? and have to send multiple parcels a week?

          • @freoleo: To keep getting the discount - yes. But the promo pricing lasts for 3 months, irrespective of how much you're sending.

        • +1

I am assuming you need an ABN to set up a business account?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Sent a few parcels during the $1 deal and process seemed fairly easy and packages got delivered within a reasonable time frame. Will send a few more during this promotion.

  • +1

Does anyone know if you need to bring your own satchel/box? Or is it included when going in store.

Outside of this promo what does everyone else use as an alternative to Aus post? It is getting pricey at over $9..

    • +1

The bags and boxes are provided free, you will find them underneath the desk.
I actually used the service first time today, and I found it pretty easy to use.
      Thanks OP 😊

  • Used today. Lodge with Toll's own satchel/box.

Question…is there a way to pay for the satchel and a tracking number and send another time? Asking since you need to enter recipient details during checkout. Would be awesome to stock up on $5 satchels for use later.

    Thanks

    • -2

You answered your own question only if you know the recipients on the day . I loaded up on the $1 deal my regular recipients.

      • +1

I think its without knowing the recipients address. e.g. I find it alot easier packaging parcels at home at time of sale & then posting out when its ready.
So in that case, I would want to by say 10 x Satchels all prepaid at the $5 each rate, package as I sell throughout the week then later print a label & add to the prepaid satchel. Similar to AusPost.

        • Believe me if it was like that at the $1 deal I would have hogged all machines even away from my area with contacts till no satchels were left lol :)
          Wishful thinking !

  • Tried to post to Mudgee and was given an error that it was remote and the recipient would have to pick it up (and not delivered to them). Looks a good deal for major cities only.

  • I posted 4 parcels from Brisbane on Monday and all of them were delivered on Wednesday, including WA and VIC.
    Very impressed with their service.
Will continue to use them until this offer ends😊

  • +2

Just be aware if you are sending to a remote location…

I sent a parcel with them a few weeks ago, I had to manually input the address as the system didn’t have it listed. Anyway the process worked (no warnings or error messages) so sent the parcel off. Anyway it turns out they don’t deliver to that specific address, so put it in the local 7-11…. which was just over 1100km away.

Was an absolute nightmare trying to get the parcel returned to me (had to pay another $27 for shipping). Apparently the system should have given a warning but “they are still working out some bugs”.

Anyway, ended up sending with Auspost (which I hate doing) but amazingly they delivered it faster than the estimate (was supposed to be 5-7 business days, but was delivered in the morning of the 4th day.

I still don’t recommend Auspost (too many bad experiences) but it worked out this time.

Still, very nerve racking when it was a $2500 parcel getting “stuck” miles from where it was supposed to be

  • +1

I had to send a few parcels and re-entering the sender details for every parcel was painful. I tried generating a QR Code for each field and scan it instead of typing it and it worked!

hope this helps someone who is sending lots with this promo :)

    • Oh gosh, I send quite a bit & have been waiting for Mondays to come around to post. How to I generate a QR code for the sender address?
Feel free to send me a DM if thats easier :)

      • i googled free qr code generator and used qrcode-monkey.com to generate a text qr code. I generated 1 for my email address and 1 for street address to test it out on Monday and so glad it worked.

I dont think you can generate 1 qr code to fill in all the fields but scanning 4 qr codes for name, mobile, email and address is much easier than typing it manually for every parcel.

        • Thanks for that, just wanted to know how to enter the QR codes. Super good to know! Assuming you scan it where the pay scanner is?

          • @graceyym: It's the same scanner you use to scan the barcode for the satchel :)

  • Doesn’t seem to exist in Brisbane..no stores have parcelmate according to their website

    • Tried locating in Vic but none showing? Just me or….don’t really want to drive up to one and chekc

    • Definitely available in Brisbane, I sent a parcel from Newmarket 7/11 last Monday. The website search probably isn’t correct.

  • +1

Posted a couple of parcels last Monday that could not be tracked. Now I am told they are still at the 7-11 where I left them. Terrible service

  • People who have an alternative to Australia post are lucky.

Unfortunately living in a regional area my only choice for both sending and receiving is Australia post.

Other courier companies like sendle, toll etc cherry pick and only offer good service to the Metro areas.. ignoring regional and rural areas of Australia (ie most of the country and people like farmers etc ) …

For example in regional and rural areas there are many people who do not have a street address which immediately means you cannot use most courier companies …

And the nearest 7-11 is about 40 minute drive each way from were I live so that is not an option :( … (In comparison there are two post offices with 10 minutes drive of were I live)

    • You are lucky not to have a 7-11 nearby in terms of this service, otherwise I like their products.

Further to my comment above, I picked my packages from 7-11 yesterday as 8 days had gone by with no pickup in sight. And that is after my numerous phone and email discussions with TOLL who repeatedly assured me that they are working on it. Never again.

  • Damn thought this might be a better and cheaper option for my eBay sales but I can't guarantee that all buyers will have a 711 nearby so this is a no go. Have had atrocious results with Sendle since they mostly use fastway and couriers please. Aust Post might be expensive but they are at least the quickest and most reliable

    • They don't need a 7\Eleven nearby. You can't use the slightly cheaper direct to store service, you have to use the regular or express services. So long as they are in anbe in an area that Toll deliver to, you should be fine.

I sent my mother her Mother's Day present via it the other night, as she is in regional South Australia the closest 7\Eleven to her will be somewhere in Victoria (probably Ballarat)

  • Used this service twice on cheap Mondays. Worked very well and quick shipping. One 7Eleven was hiding the small satchels, lol

  • What's the dimension of the package?

  • +1

Tried this service. Been an absolute nightmare. My parcel is still sitting at the bottom of that locker waiting to be picked up since this past Monday. Turns out there is a fault with this particular locker. Between overseas call centres from Toll and Parcel mate, I have had zero luck finding out when the parcel is actually going to be collected and sent on its way. Rang 7 eleven customer service and got palmed off just telling me to ring the overseas call centre again as they aren't responsible. Never mind the fact that they advertise it heavily and it sits inside their stores. Never had such appalling customer service from local companies.

    • +1

Quite similar to what happened to me. I managed to retrieve it a week later and express mailed it via PO. Trying to get any refund out of these guys is impossible.

      • Yea never again. It finally got picked up and was delivered the next day (quite impressive as it was going to WA from NSW) but it is impossible to speak to anyone based in Australia who will actually take ownership of the issues to ensure they will get resolved.

    • and am on the other extreme - used service for 2 parcels last Monday, one local Mel and one SYD - both delivered next day. impressive.

  • +1

Does anyone know if this posts to PO Boxes? Thanks

    • Don’t think so.

      • Thanks for that! Saves me a trip

  • Entering the details takes so long, I wouldn’t bother unless it just happens you’re filling up and haven’t got an aus post business account or similar.

  • Pair this up with the soil testing deal ozbargin'd
