    nice deal :D got 2.

    • +1

      me two

  • Able to crack these open?

    • +5

Why not? Just use a hammer.

    • I have one of these drives, you might have to break the case to get the hard disk out

    • +4

Yeah i bought 2 of these last year when Big W had them on sale and cracked them open to put in a HP Micro-Server running FreeNAS 8, they ran perfectly well in my Mac Pro under osX and Windows 7 but for the life of me i couldn't add them as a drive in FreeNAS. This was after trying FreeNAS 8.0.1 and 8.0.2, formatting the drive in every possibly format and wiping it with FDisk. I also put it in another Linux box and added all the standard table directories, FreeNAS could see it but i couldn't add it as a drive (through the GUI or Shell)
Gave up and put them both in a D-Link 2 bay ShareCentre and they were recognised and formatted straight away and have been running ever since.

I've read heaps of other posts on the interwebz that people had the same issue and have rolled back to FreeNAS 7 to combat this but i didn't bother trying that. Also since i tried there's a new version of FreeNAS (8.0.3) that i've yet to try.

Hope this helps (in case you're buying to add to a FreeNAS box).
I'm waiting till WD greens drop in price again

  • Is this awesome? any catches? im happy with USB2.0 so this seems like a killer deal! :)

    • +1

The only catch I see is that we have to go through OurDeal.
We're meant to email Axeze ourselves apparently.

  • +2

just 'purchased' one… after giving your cc details they email a voucher which you then have to email Axeze after 13th Jan with and only after 13th… the voucher also expires of you dont after a month…. i guess for 65bux it still seems worth it with a little hassle

  • Can someone confirm that these clicking drives can simply be taken from their case and put into new external-case/dock to avoid the clicking problems? (as suggested by an Amazon user review)

  • I don't seem to be able to access the seller website using the details supplied by ourdeal
    www.axeze.com.au
Has anyone ever heard of them or used them before?
EDIT: seems to be working now

  • +1

    g… bought 1.5tb for 139 @ DSE already…
    crys should of waited…

    • It depends on what you need, this is not usb powered so if you're ok with that then it's a good deal.

  • shipping cost????

    • +2

"To top it all off, your hard drive will be delivered to your door nationwide at no extra cost (value $20)."

  • "To top it all off, your hard drive will be delivered to your door nationwide at no extra cost (value $20)"

  • Bought 2 :D

  • +2

This is an unbelievable deal. Credit where it's due.

  • Pretty good deal!
Hope it has a good warranty too!

  • Damn! Good deal.

  • So this is a great product? Has clicking problems?

  • +4

Just got 5. Time to crack them open and build the micro server…

    • Can you please tell us how to build a micro server ?

    • you may want to read my post above

      • Thanks

    • You will void the warranty

  • Does it come with any kind of warranty?

  • it needs separate power supply?

    • yes

  • great deal, but seems like someone experienced some drivers issue with this product. duno if they have fixed it yet http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Other-External-products/Problem…

  • -4

man crazy deal, centrelink where are you!

    • why is this down voted? i'm on centrelink and wish i had more money to buy this too!!!

      • +2

Isn't centrelink for living expenses? As opposed to computer hard drives.

        • +2

Psst, don't tell anyone but I think they do Austudy for students who might like to have a backup drive too! ;)

        • i'm in 4th year med school. i need data storage too!

  • +2

I purchased 4 of these drives a while a go from DSE for $99. Easy to pull a part and put the drives in my NAS. Considering making a purchase, just hope they follow through with the deal and im not waiting 6 months for a drive to show up..

    • -6

4 for $99 wow, thats under $25 each. lol.

      • +2

        …obviously I meant $99 each :-)

        • What Model number are the drives inside?

  • +4

I sense the next ozthongs debacle.

    • hahaha, nice try :)

      • +1

I can't edit my post, sorry. NOTE: YOU don't get $10, only I get $10. I apologize for misleading people, I mis-read the website in my excitement.

  • hiow does this refer a friend $10 credit works? I tried using different email addresses and its not working at all

    • If you refer a friend, they need to make a purchase first before you get the $10 credit in your account

      • Yep…only you get the $10 though, your friend does not. Learn from my mistake.

        • +2

if u need to buy two, make two transactions, that's 10 bux off

  • Great price but drive has issues.
Dont let the super price dazzle you, these are "problem" drives.
Might be best to save you data and sanity by waiting for a more reliable drive.

  • I have one of these drives, bought it last time DSE had it for $79, its OK nothing to write home about. Makes weird noises sometimes too, like it's going to die, but its just normal xD

  • One of the best bargains since I joined, you are a legend! :-) thank you heaps for the post

  • lol, been watching the price of these drop further and further, word of advice: If you intend to buy these and use "as is", don't, pay a bit more and get a decent drive.

  • Ordered one, thanks OP!

  • referels not working, no $10 credit

  • ok so is this a good drive to rip apart the enclosure and use the HDD in the PC? are the problems with the enclosure or HDD? clicking, reliability….?

  • 341 sold so far. I doubt they have that many in stock.

  • "Please allow 2 weeks for delivery after ordering"
Are they ship from overseas? Is Seagate have International warranty?

    • +1

Seagate says "no international warranty" AFAIK but they recognised the warranty on a drive I bought from Amazon.com here in Australia.

The two weeks is probably just covering their arses in case they can't keep up with the number of orders or need to order more stock in.

  • "Automatically recognised by Windows" …will this work for iMac without Windows installed?

    • Yep.

    • Yeah you just have to reformat it. However if you plug the drive into OSX without reformatting it, you can open the drive in read-only mode.

      • That's only if it's NTFS formatted. Most external HDDs come FAT32, which can be written and read by MacOS. It's better to format to MacOS so you can store files greater than 4GB.

  • Good deal but 430 sold at 9.30 … I wonder will this be a 2000 sold and have to wait 3 months to receive it

  • Buy of the month, lets hope the ebay pimps clean up the stock

  • +3

This is so not going to end well. 500 of them sold. Too cheap to make any sense too.

    • +1

Exactly what I was thinking. While it appears to be a killer deal, there's huge potential for it to go shockingly wrong. While the lure of an extremely cheap 2TB drive is very tempting, having never heard of the vendor and the issues typically associated with group buys, I just can't do it.

Best of luck to those that have taken the plunge, hope it works out for everyone.

      • Too good to be true.. never heard of ourdeal and especially axeze. ..if only they accept PayPal …I'll give a pass this time..
        But oh God so tempting..

        • +1

Lol, I love it how everyone holds up Paypal as the 'escrow kings for the little guy'! If you've ever had to lodge a dispute with them you'd know just how little real protection they actually offer!

I use Paypal frequently myself because it is convenient, and I do get a few cashbacks through them; but I'm under no illusions that they're gonna be white knights when a deal goes awry, I've seen them sit on their hands too many times!

  • +3

I bought one but now think this is going to end badly. No way they can fullfil looking at the purchase count going crazy.

    • reckon. 529 sold. axeze not even wholesaler.

    • They probably will, but we'll have to wait 6 months for them to fulfill your order…

    • over 1200 now lol

  • Hi Guys

Anyone knows how to add delivery address for this deal , coz after i finish purchased, no delivery address attached, thanks!

    • sign in using your email address and pass word, then go to account settings, you will get an option to put your address there

      • thanks bro, so just updated your details is ok?

        • +1

Address in your account settings is irrelevant to the delivery address.

Follow the instructions on the site…you need to email the voucher to the email add provided AFTER 13th January with your details.

        • yes

  • +1

Well the deal has a sale limit. As long as they set a sale limit that they can handle then it should be okay. but if they set like 2000 before it shows up as sold out and they only have 100 in stock. Then they're screwed.

  • tempted, but I'll stay away with seagate's brand.

    • +1

Since refurbishment, my 1TB SeaCrates have been fine. Just check the firmware when you get them & it'll all be good IMHO! ;)

  • Has anyone heard of this "axeze.com.au" before?

  • +1

after the referral discount $10 its comes down to $55 for a 2tb sweet

  • +5

Very tempted, but I think the "too good to be true" fairies have sprinkled their dust on this one….

    • +2

Good call - hopefully everyone who orders gets their product alright but I'm guessing there are going to be problems.

  • +7

I've just called Axeze up, the guy I spoke to doesn't know many of the details because the person that organized the deal is off sick, though he said they were working with a major supplier so it seems there is a good chance that we will get our HDD's.

    • That sounds a little suspicious… hasn't the deal only been up a few hours? Maybe someone should contact ourdeal and see if they can get any more information before they transfer the money over to axeze.

    • +1

over 655 sold for now. I don't think they can supply that much drive. And its still 20hrs to go.

      • 860 sold - its 1 day and 19 hours before the deal expires on OurDeal.
According to OurDeal "This deal is activated. All buyers will recieve this Deal"

        • I bought when it was 52 sold few hours ago now 1000 sold. Crazy as

    • whats fishy is that ourdeal takes half the money so axeze is only charging $37 per 2tb drive? including shipping? crazy

      • +1

geez, they should have just posted the $37 deal here. Saves going through the middleman (ourdeal).

  • +3

Wasn't there meant to be a heap of water damaged drives being dumped? If so, I recon this is the first dumping.

    • +3

i think consumer laws will protect u.

      • +1

but no laws will protect your DATA…..lol

    • +2

At the very least, you will get 1 year warranty on these bad boys…
