No, you cannot store any data unless you have a subscription. It's a major deficiency of this system from my perspective, and the main reason why I haven't bought it yet.
What a jerk move by the company. Storage is so cheap. This is the worst business model.

I think it just went out of stock. The 2 pack is no longer listed, and the 1 pack is a different price, so its not like they accidentally discounted the 2 pack instead of the 1 pack.

Yes amazon was selling it.
I believe it was a pricing error. Good guys has the 1 camera on sale for $148 and I think Amazon tried to beat it but it put the 2 camera version on for that price.
