One of the better brands, would happily buy another huawei device.

      • +14

They make some decent devices, but on the flipside they assist the Chinese government in the oppression of their people, there is risks they may be banned from supporting their products (like what happened with the phones), and they have some security risks.

For me, they are out of any consideration. I want to support China as little as possible and there are just as good replacements out there that are not closely related to the Chinese government.

But each to their own, as you say, they make some good devices.

        • +18

Not in the least interested in politics when shopping, besides more chance of the us gov spying on you than China. I also don't refuse to buy Lenovo, Xiaomi, apple, Nike, Samsung(actually untrue, ever since Bixby Samsung is on my blacklist), or many others with huge ethical questions over the company. You are of course free to do so. Lifes to short to screw myself over for political bs.

        • +2

I only buy if it is a bargain, not particularly supportive of any country products other the Aust made products.

        • +12

"I want to support China as little as possible"

Just a quick scan of your last few comments and purchases have been in relation to
          Edifier - Chinese
DJI - Also chinese , and been blacklisted same as huawei.

          Lmao

          • +4

@KenDiaMoi: Very hard not to buy anything Chinese these days. Note the key word was "try".

          • @KenDiaMoi:

not closely related to the Chinese government

You missed the critical bit. I'm not aware of any criticism of Edifier. My issue is with the Chinese government, not the Chinese people.

I have not bought anything from DJI.

That's the deal breaker for me.

I've heard the 2022 line up will use AMD due to sanctions. We could be in for a huge performance increase if this is true.

Wait, WTH is Fulbright University Vietnam? Google it yourself, I will let you have the laugh!

And what Christopher Balding has been using for his…analysis studying?
            3 huawei staffs' CVs….3 fxxxxn CVs…

This 20 more years of Anti-China hatred lobbying, it is just getting so intelligence insulting and lower each day.

And that list, they have list hikvision too, not sure why the DJI is not in the list, since the Chinese military drones are advancing so fast.

Murdoch's shills should be banned from using OZbargain, they are making the WW3 and killing our bargains. But let's just try to keep all those politics BS out of OZbargain, at least for now.

            • +1

              @RooBun: not as bad as

'The second study relied on flimsy media reports and speculation. It was authored by Adrian Zenz, a far-right fundamentalist Christian who opposes homosexuality and gender equality, supports “scriptural spanking” of children, and believes he is “led by God” on a “mission” against China.

As Washington ratchets up pressure on China, Zenz has been lifted out of obscurity and transformed almost overnight into a go-to pundit on Xinjiang. '

'The far-right German academic is the source for practically every Western media report alleging “genocide” and enormous concentration camps in Xinjiang. Zenz, who has not spent a significant period of time in China, and has no evident scholarly expertise on Chinese politics, history, or society, is not so much an academic as he is a right-wing operative.

Zenz has also found time to volunteer his belief that God’s apocalyptic Rapture will soon come, and Jews who refuse to convert to Christianity will, in his words, be “wiped out” and shoved in a “fiery furnace,” as journalist Dan Cohen reported.'

Zenz’s estimate that “over 1 million” Muslim minorities are held in “concentration camps” in Xinjiang was based on a lone report by Istiqlal TV, an Islamist media outlet run by Uyghur separatists based in Turkey. The outlet provides a friendly platform for extremist supporters of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), a separatist group that seeks to build an Islamic state in Xinjiang, which it calls East Turkestan.

ETIM, also known as the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), is an al-Qaeda-linked extremist militia that has carried out numerous terrorist attacks in Xinjiang. It is recognized as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, European Union, and many countries. Pompeo’s State Department removed ETIM from the US government’s official terrorist list in October 2020, as part of Washington’s intensifying cold war on China'…..followed of course by Emperor Scomo

CCP is the most trusted accountable governing structure in the world (the results of peoples wellbeing improvements are obvious, elsewhere people are less happy). Compare it to the establishments where money/power dictates. I'm disappointed with the direction of Australian ethics. People are more selfish.

  • Hey OP
Any idea if we'll get the P50 Pro in Australia?

I'm about ready to take the plunge away from GMS (though I will still have my P30 Pro for things like Google Pay). I assume it'll be hard to buy outside of China and co countries.

  • Do people actually buy this brand?

    • +14

absolutely, one of the better brands and one of the best price/quality. I still have my Huawei mediapad m3 as my main tablet device.

      • +5

My question was not one of quality but ethics considering the company in question.

        • +7

if ethics were defined by politicians, sure…

          • +2

@Neishui: @Neishui: Ethics in the case of assisting Myanmar military currently killing innocent civilians, with AI facial recognition technology

            • +1

@Phyo: uh huh, the guns and the bullets are made in USA, the metal from AI hardware is from Australia's iron ore. If you want to go down this path no one is winning.

my point is that people should judge a technology using the relevant scientific benchmarks, and not be influenced by the subjective political narrative.

              • @Neishui: People won't care about ethics when choosing a product until they or their family/people are recipients of atrocities wilfully made possible by the technology. I used to be one of them.

                • @Phyo: Sorry to hear that… but maybe there is a technology to protect you made in the same country…

            • -1

@Phyo: Australia's new best friend INDIA has used live ammunition on street protesters for decades- IT STILL DOES.

Apparently that's an Australian value according to the emperor Scomo - except when he decides it isn't - and that's when its associated with the american war on china - which is totally based on money and nothing else.

you wanna list of what other countries Australia now supports that kill protesters - its a long one….

                                      • @petry: read a few posts above where I asked you a question which you chose to ignore.

@RSmith: mate you exposed this site for what it is - good job!

                                          • @petry: Nah… On the contrary, you got exposed with your narrow-minded views.

@RSmith: Personal Attacks - Commenting guidelines

Abuse, name calling and malicious comments directed at a person or a group of people are unacceptable. Disagreements and debates are fine and encouraged but please respect everyone's opinion. nope you 're allowed to do that

                                              Hate Speech

Hate speech attacks or expresses prejudice against a person or a group on the basis of particular attributes (including, but not limited to: race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or gender). Hate speech includes spreading misinformation about a person/group with the intent to harm, create prejudice or create fear. Sexist, racist, xenophobic or similar comments will be deemed as a personal attack or hate speech depending on context.

nope you 're allowed to do that as well.

mods reckon you're all good in respect of both lol - so good job! hope your employment works out for you… and the others

                                              • @petry: Report it to the mods. They'll also see the kind of person they are dealing with.

                                                • @RSmith: Already have several times as written above - they approved your hate speech and repeated personal attacks, your malicious stalking etc as stated above.

Apparently the Australian federal laws governing this online behaviour - hate speech etc are no longer in force here so that means the spooks and the 77th are in attendance.

so as i said much earlier ' mate you exposed this site for what it is - good job!'

                                                  • @petry:

they approved your hate speech and repeated personal attacks, your malicious stalking etc as stated above.

Lol. Obviously, it is not hate speech except for a person with a massive chip on their shoulder.

                                                    • @RSmith: 'Hate speech attacks or expresses prejudice against a person or a group on the basis of particular attributes (including, but not limited to: race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or gender'

You rejected pakistan as being incapable of telling the truth and then denied being a racist. That means according to this site you are a hate speech writer, and for short a 'hater.'

This business is clearly supporting hate speech quite deliberately since it's moderator's ignore repeatedly the sites own published rules on hate speech, and it has clearly been greenlighted to make money from it under the emperor, whose lackeys routinely ignore other federal laws.
