HD PVR & Set Top Box - $39 ($35 for Cash)

41

Nice deal on a HD set top box with built in PVR. I purchased one of these today and paid cash and got it for $35

I have unpacked or used it yet but at this price it would even make a cheap doorstop.

  • PVR via USB storage.

still a PVR…you can use a USB stick which costs a few $$

      • Yeah no problem. Just pointing out not to expect a HDD at all.

I've had this one, and a replacement after that, and both were unreliable: reguarly 'forgot' scheduled recordings, crashed constantly during playing paused TV, did not display subtitles correctly, shut itself off randomly etc.

We have tried brand new HDD's, powered and non powered, did not make any difference.

GG staff's comment: "you get what you pay for, but have a look at this 250 dollar beauty" so I would not recommend bying this piece of crap.

I paid 38 a couple of months ago.

  • Nice Dick Smith product placement :P

What's the model number so I can get some proper specs? Never heard of CVA and a google search doesn't bring anything up.

  • Got the DSE branded set top box and fails after 4 months but Dick Smith always replaces it without question (at least the Auburn NSW branch). Tried the Digitec branded one and still going good after a year. I prefer the set top box plus usb powered 2.5 drive setup over the PVR with internal drive so that when either the drive or the STB fails, you just need to replace one for less than $50 rather than buy another PVR for hundreds $$$ more.
