MetroVac Datavac ESD Safe Electric Duster ED-500ESD $159 + Shipping @ PC Case Gear

70

In light of the GPU shortages, it's time to dust off those old components from your garage!

I noticed that pccasegear have dropped the price on this blower, recently. Admittedly, I hate the delivery fee these guys charge.

Alternatively, bacs.com.au offer in store pickup if Chatswood NSW is close enough for you.

I have no idea how this compares to the cheaper two products from IT Dusters on amazonAU

Is fear of ESD overstated in the PC building community? I always use a vacuum attachment while the PC is turned off but plugged into ground and had no problems whatsoever.

    • I'm not sure. But I think blowers (canned or otherwise) are more effective at getting rid of dust, especially those that have been caked onto plastics (fan blades) and pcbs

    • The problem with a vacuum isn't so much ESD but literally sucking components off boards (especially capacitors).

I've used a vacuum in the past but would definitely recommend a blower instead.

    • i use soft brush and vacuum to clean the pc components all the time, everything keeps working well…

    PCCG: $159 + $15 = $174 delivered NSW

    PCCG eBay: $159 + $19 - $6.36 (using PLUS4P) = $171.64

    • Good find! It might be cheaper to go directly to their site if you're purchasing multiple products as they charge delivery fees for individual items. I enquired their ebay store to consolidate their shipping for multiple items but they claimed they weren't able to do this with ebay. Quite disappointing, I think they're just unfamiliar with how ebay works.
In that case it might be worth purchasing your lower valued items from other stores that offer more competitive shipping charges.

    • It's $160.72 from Amazon delivered (from US)

      • But then that's only 110V right? Not sure if it's worth getting a transformer

    • Do you know how it compares?

      • No, but we have found this more than satisfactory for it's desired purpose. Many attchments. If your not happy you can just return it as purchased through Amazon.

Yep I have the same as this in white. I think it's the more basic model. Does everything I need to clean out the pc and keyboard etc

That link doesn't load for me, I personally have a datavac and let me say I wouldn't want anything weaker than a mains powered 500w blower.

      • Just an ozito leafblower bit stronger then one of those id imagine

Honestly wish that PCCG did some sort of free shipping service - whether that be through some sort of membership or something like “over $200 spend”, for instance.

    • +7

Yeah, especially given they've stopped allowing pickups and their prices usually aren't super low, means I usually don't even bother checking them any more :(

      • Same. If I can pickup my product the same day from Scorptec literally 300m down the road I'll do that instead. (profanity) you PCCG.

      Like centercom and mwave?

    • They are the biggest ripoff artists when it comes to shipping.

Hit me up for $16 on an item that others were charging $7.95.

Never bought from them again, nor will I ever. YMMV

As a proud owner of a DataVac, I can definitely confirm that this thing is a beast and I use it waaaaay more than I thought I would.

  • I bought one last week from PCCG. price was $199+shipping. the next day they dropped the price to $159. Sent through an email explaining how pissed off I was and they refunded me the difference. That's a big tick in my book and they will continue to have me as a customer.

  • That's the sort of thing I would instead get from Aliexpress for a fraction of the price, though I just use a vacuum cleaner so don't see the need.

    • Haha, buying mains powered electrical devices from AliExpress is generally a terrible idea and in no way comparable to this high-quality item.

  • What are the benefits for getting a mini vac instead of a full one?

I just don't get why it is worth spending over $150 when there are options like these for $50:

    What am I missing?

    • …The fact that it's about a metre long and so you have no chance of fitting it inside even the absolute largest of computer cases ?

And even if you had a computer case the size of a small car, the blower outlet looks about 10cm wide, how do you plan to fit it between fan blades and cooler fins ?
I guess with a case that size you're probably using bathroom fans and a radiator from an old aircon, so maybe it'll work just fine 👌

      • No idea why you want to "fit" the blower into your case, when all you need is the blowing air to be powerful enough to go through your case to get rid of dust, but cheers for your arrogant perspective ✌️

        • No worries, thanks for the cheers 😁

I have one of these and was BLOWN AWAY by the performance. Its also great when you pump it into a watercoolled PC via some soft tube to help purge water out of your PC if you're servicing the waterblocks :) I wasnt able to put the bleed valve low enough, so extra air helps get the water out.

    • Me too, and the build quality is truly excellent - it's seriously well made, and it feels like it will last forever.

  • Better to buy a basic air compressor from SCA etc. for around the same price and have something that's much more useful.

  • Would a cordless tire inflator like this work for blowing out dust?
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-12v-li-ion-cordless-air-pu…

Better to have a device that is dual purpose

    • Today, just picked up this.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-cordles…

Bought it to clean out my keyboard. Been using a can of compressed air. When comparing the two, I'd say that there is less air coming from the can, but it's got higher pressure. The Ozito, has anywhere from 70-90% of the air pressure, but more air volume. Pretty happy with this as an alternative to canned air. Cordless too, and 5-year warranty. :)

  • Out of curiosity … why not just use an air compressor ? I know not everyone has access to one but I found it very helpful.
