      Which colour did you get?

      • Black

        • were there any sorta greeny sagey colour in stock? Anyways enjoy your pixel device! Its a good phone for that price point i reckon

    • A friend went to Officeworks Woolloongabba this afternoon and they wouldn't price match as they said it was locked to Telstra.

  • Just rang Officeworks Mona Vale
No can do on the price beat.
They said the ones that Telstra are advertising with a plan or outright are all locked to the Telstra network.

    • +2

why not say you’ve called Telstra specifically about this and was informed by Telstra reps that it’s unlocked? It is 100% unlocked.

Also beware you can only comment 5 times in 24 hours

Just went in store to Officeworks Fyshwick in ACT and they did the price beat - OOS for now though so waiting on delivery likely sometime next week.

  • Office works is refusing to price match

    • I got 2 from Office works with price beat. Just before close in Preston, Melbourne

  • +2

Wow already got a dispatch notification from Telstra, couldn't be bothered running around with the OW pricebeat.

  • My order has been dispatched from Telstra.

  • Can someone post a receipt of their price match?

    • In store price beat was still possible just before close. They had no stock but ended up honoring the deal to order it to the store…

  • I just bought in store with the price beat just before close, even though they had no stock. Admittedly the cashier had no idea what she was doing but didn't seem to bother the employee that authorised the deal…

  • Been waiting for a deal on a Google Pixel 5 for a long time… thank you very much OP!

Went to office works Osbourne park and they refused to price match even though I could show them my order form Telstra. Then went to JB HIFI and they quickly without any issue did a price match.
Outcome I will now boycott office works which will include all my corporate purchases.

    • +2

strange that they happily price beat the $749 Telstra price from last Boxing Day but now all of a sudden claiming it’s a pRiCe eRrOr

If it was truly an error, Telstra would’ve fixed it by now. Some officeworks manager probs came up with that bs just to refuse to honour their own policy

    • +1

Im in Albany this weekend and Officeworks down here didn't match/beat either. Once am in the city this week will try JB HiFi. Surely of Telstra is offering this then other retailers will start dropping their prices.

    • +1

Jb Hi Fi Osborne Park is the best store ever, great customer service.
I might go tomorrow and grab one for myself if they stll price beat

      • I did grab one for myself lol

  • +2

Can admin please edit the title to remove the free advertising for office works

    • +3

      Ok I will remove it

  • Jb hi-fi didn't let me price match, apparently they never price match Telstra? Weird.

    • I managed to get JB to sell it to me for $899.

They first said, telstra is selling carrier locked phones. I told them that is bullshit. They then said the one telstra is selling is a slightly different variant. Now I'm not up to date with this practice (and I know e.g. Samsung sells telco-specific models), but I'm pretty sure this was bs too as Google do most (?all) of carrier personalization via software .

I then spoke to their manager who said something about it not being "telstra's advertised price" and that you can't get that price instore. I then asked them what price they could sell it for and got the above.

      • Which store was this? So I know to avoid…

        • It was in brisbane.

World Square Shopping Centre (Sydney) at ~4pm today:

Telstra store rep: "I can only sell you one with the $150 off if you have an existing post-paid service…let me check for you…yes, I can do that."

Me: "Can you do any better than $849? I haven't seen what JB HiFi (next door) is offering yet"

Telstra store rep: "No I cannot. If JB sell it for less than $849 you should just buy there"

JB Rep: "Yes, we know about the $150 deal. It's technically a bill credit but we can match it upfront as long as you have a Telstra account…blah blah blah…..wanna buy some overpriced accessories….blah…blah….thank you"

Deal done at $849.00. Now I just need to get rid of this S21 Ultra. :-D

Got my local Officeworks (Vermont South) to price match. Had no stock but ordered in. Pick up in 2 days. Was pretty straight forward actually.

    • Great tip! Vermont South officeworks also price matched for me too.

Very easy to deal with :)

  • Successful price match with JB.

The store rep said she had to check Telstra's website to confirm it was an unlocked handset and matched the price

  • Guys trying to decide if I should upgrade from oneplus 6t to this. All I want is similar interface, better camera and unlimited HQ photos

But not sure if I pay a bit more for Samsung s21

  • +1

Successfully price matched at officeworks (Fairy Meadow) today with additional 5% off.

  • +1

May try officeworks price match tomorrow.
I've always ordered from the Google store but seems like the warranty is 2y elsewhere these days and RMA will still go through Google ultimately. Almost $200 cheaper than rrp.

  • Thanks op, price matched/beat at local Officeworks, They had to order as no stock but will have in two days

  • Easy price match at my local JB (no BS like what some others have commented) - just showed staff member the Telstra price on my phone and paid with discounted e-gift card.

  • +2

Telstra had it for $749 in Dec 2020.

  • Has anyone managed to buy this outright from Telstra? Keeps coming up with an error, but works if I load the cart with a plan.

  • +3

I got one to replace my S9+. Not sure if it's a huge upgrade but love the feel and the form factor. Don't think I'll need a case for it because it feels so not slippery.

Priced matched at JB HiFi Barkly Square, Brunswick 3056. Had to wait a bit because another guy tried to price match Telstra just before me and got shot down. They said no stock after he asked for price match.

I asked them to check stock before I pulled the price match card. They said they had 5 in stock and then tried to palm me off with the normal 'it's locked to T', 'it's a different model' etc….

Anyway, I feel sorry for the dude in front of me that got sent to another JB that 'had stock'. But I'm typing this on my price matched JB Pixel 5. 😂

I know, cool story. Maybe just make sure you guys get them to confirm stock before pulling the price match. 🙂

    • I've got S9, why is it not much of an upgrade?

      • I remember having a couple of S2 phones, so good

  • +1

FYI, the model number on this one is GTT9Q which as far as I'm aware is the right one if you want to price match. It's also not network locked, which is something some stores might tell you to deny you a match.

Got mine secured for $806 at Officeworks, so I'm good to go — good luck everyone!

    • Pretty awesome price. How did you get it down to $806?

      • 5% price best policy?

        • +1

^Yep, this. Just had to clarify to the folks at 1300 OFFICE exactly how it qualifies, since they used the above excuses to try and deny it.

  • I called around a few officeworks and JB's and no one would price match.

Ended up getting lucky at Officeworks in Elsternwick they did it - but it was brutally tough.

  • If I port out to ALDI mobile, do I have to be out for a defined period of time before I port back in to JB to claim the voucher, or can it literally be for a couple of hours?
    thanks
    Daniel

  • There seems to be issues getting Officeworks to fulfill there price matching policy. You have to ring around many Officeworks to find one that will fulfill it.

Isn't this what credit card concierge services are for?

  • Isn't this $749 before? Are they the same model?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/586627

  • Officeworks Preston (VIC) didn't even ask to see the telstra offer and were happy to price beat. Sounded like they knew about it already.
Unfortunately they didn't have any stock so I have one on order.

  • My local Officeworks price beat for anyone wondering.

    • +2

Thanks, there's only so many officeworks in TAS, I'm sure we'll work out which one.

      • Lmao, Officeworks Hobart.

    • They must have had a surge of these purchases and head office has intervened with a system note which doesn't allow price beat, only price match, because 'the Telstra site requires an ID to complete the purchase'.

Some sort of loop hole for them to justify not living up to the price beat… You must have got in just before they shut the gate.

  • These are pretty good value for a current model phone ($750-$850 etc), just been transferring my data over from the Pixel 3 XL. Super easy with these phones, plug one into the other. It doesn't feel as premium in terms of the finish, screen and speaker, but will be pretty good. I don't mind the lightly smaller form factor, lighter, easier for one handed operation. Years of vanilla updates anyway.

Just got a cheap spigen case from Amazon but keen on the genuine Google fabric case, never very cheap for current models.

Obviously the bigger screen is better for videos etc (good for travel, saves getting a tablet), but will have to get used to that .

Still need to send my Pixel 3 XL back for a warranty replacement then probably sell it I guess (along with a few new accessories). Not worth giving it away but should still get good money for them.

    • Fwiw I think the sound is slightly better on the pixel 3 xl with wired headphones too, but still acceptable

  • Couldn't get officeworks to match over phone - said you need telstra ID and credit check, even when I pointed out that the price in store was the same and that anyone can get an id.

    • +1

How many people have received the same excuse? Would this be misleading advertisement or bait and switch?

  • Anyone bother with a screen protector for the back camera, it's a bit more exposed than some previous phones, but noticed some cases supply them with it

  • Head office at officeworks claiming price match only no price beat cause ID is required to buy… Bought one 1 minute ago form officeworks

    • which officeworks?

      • +1

Darwin. But it was literally a message from their head office - the people at counter were putting the price beat through the system as per normal then it was blocked by head office with a note talking about the need for ID with Telstra, and they can only price match. The people at counter had no idea about the ID part of the Telstra transaction.

  • Managed to get jbhifi Warriewood to price match this today.

  • Thanks! Been waiting for a deal for a while to replace my dogs**t Nokia 7.2.

  • So I went to a Telstra store today and they wouldn't give me the $150 discount upfront and said 'it will be credited to your next bill'. Very strange :/

  • how is warranty claim working? like there are a few online for $700 price range but afraid warranty need proof of purchase like with Samsung, I know Apple never asks for that

  • The Pixel 5 is going well, the battery lasts a long time compared to my older (bigger) pixels :). Fairly easy to hold and swipe/type one handed.

Wondering if anyone has noticed that big blue refresh logo that appears briefly on apps before loading, and sometimes the spinning circles on youtube vids? Assume it's just the slower CPU load time? I don't have a 5G sim but will get one next time (on a cheap 300GB Boost 12 month sim which is also going great for the price).

Ps. webtherapist, not sure if that question was for me but the courier picked up my pixel 3 XL yesterday, should get sent out a new one due to the hardware error. It's always been pretty straight forward with warranty directly from Google, hopefully just as easy with other retailers (an extra step/proof of purchase I assume, but still goes through Google so they should still send a new one out before posting old one back just have to front up the cost.

  • Not sure what the fascination is with the picture to the edges on whole screen - there's still a hole where the camera is :P
Guess it's more modern but didn't mind a small notch for camera and speaker that sounds better when you're on the phone. Not really complaining, still a good phone these.

  • Haven't been able to get anyone SOR in Perth to price match. Office works has no stock anywhere, JB hifi came up with every excuse possible, Telstra shop wouldn't price match their own online store, even though they have a 7 day price guarantee sticker on the phone. They offered a $150 credit which will be applied in the 3rd billing cycle. No thanks

    • Why not just order it from Telstra online shop?

      • -2

5 day delivery to Perth and Telstra always seem to mess things up.

  • JB in Canberra Centre didn't budge, don't waste your time there.

  • JB Artarmon price matched very easily.

  • Has anyone managed to order the phone through Telstra? I tried placing an order online, and at the very end of the process it stated I needed a Telstra plan…

    • I successfully purchased it today, The additional Telstra plan is an option, if you make sure you select "outright" for the handset option and next right down the bottom of first page so you don't tack a mobile plan on.

It will ask you to confirm total purchase price of $849 and ask for some I'd verification to confirm you have a Telstra account.

      • +1

I tried to purchase online from Telstra. I have a Telstra ID but no plans. I get the following error when trying to check out.

"To make this purchase, you need to have a Telstra plan. To continue, please add a plan to this order."

  • This sounds like a great deal, but after visiting 3 Telstra stores as the first two were out of stock of the handset, the third one proceeded to tell me that I could not just buy the handset outright at the reduced price, in fact the $159 would be credited back to my 'Telstra' Service in the third month. Since I had just recently availed of the JB HiFi gift card 12 month contract and ported my number to the JB HiFi skin, they did not consider that a 'Telstra' service now so the credit would not be applied. So full price would apply for the outright purchase.

At no time do they mention any of that in the promotional material, only that it is a discount applied at point of purchase. A little fishy to me.

How do I ozbargain this problem??

    • Also, JB HiFi ENEX and Officeworks Hay Street (both WA) confirmed they would not price match/price beat

      • +1

Try ringing them before getting there as you have more power. Two JB hi-fi stores said they would price match and one of them actually did as my friend went there to pick up based on that promise.

The one I rang also said that it was below cost and they were seeking a rebate from Google.

        • +1

Eventually managed to purchase for the discounted Telstra price via their website directly. Seems the pixel 5 is in high demand everywhere. Considering I went to 2 Officeworks, 2 JB hifis and 3 Telstra stores before eventually just buying it online through Tesltra I am satisfied with my overall effort.

Time for couch, footy and eagerly awaiting delivery updates.

  • +2

Is this deal now expired? It looks like it has.

    • Looks like you only get the discount on 12/24 months now

    • I thought so and got full price on outright from desktop, but late last night I was able to place an order for $849. Give it another go

    • Still works:

      Phone cost
      $849
      Save $150
      Offer ends 26 April 2021.

      • yep, looks like it is back to $849 again. yesterday, the telstra website definitely reverted to full price ($999) when choosing "outright". I confirmed this on multiple devices (via phone and also PC). The 4a 5G deal had similar behaviour too (went to full price yesterday, now back to the discounted price again). Tomorrow I'll try getting a price match at JB again, and, if not, just get it via Telstra online.

  • I went to Officeworks in Penrith, NSW today and they said they would match it but didn't have the sage in stock so I am going to try JB tomorrow, otherwise I'll just go to telstra

  • Did anyone get a screenshot of price on telstra website? Or can anyone send me a receipt?
    Thanks

  • Hi, i tried the telstra site now as its $999 so did it expire? i thought it was till the 21st of april

    • +1

It was 26th April. I'm thankful I took a screenshot of it. I've just messaged Telstra and they've said the offer is still valid. I've asked how to purchase given the price has reverted to $999 on the website. Currently awaiting a response.

      • OK thanks please let me know how that goes, i called them and they said not sure why it went back to $999 and maybe it was low stock

        • They said the $150 is credited via your bills, indicating it's only valid when purchasing on a plan. Whilst it says '$150 off' on this page it doesn't say anything about it on the pixel 5 page or when you go to purchase it. I'm skeptical and am preparing for an argument when I get my bills.

  • Talked to an agent, they said that the pixel 5 is under telstra's super saver offer, in which the $150 is only credited to your bill if you take on a month-to-month plan.

  • Probably good I got it quickly when I did (for once), can't umm and ahh too much on OzB lol
Still not as good as the Pixel 3xl but don't mind the extended battery life and smaller form factor

    • Why would you say it's worse than the 3xl? Perhaps a processor downgrade, but the RAM, display, and cameras (on the back at least) along with the battery are also better.
