      • But isn't it worth it for the flat-free tyres at $599?? I know it does 10km less distance and a bit slower, but I'm happy with 20km/h.

        • The point was that $599 for the segway es1ld is not cheap.
The better segway E25 model should be around $600 or less when on sale. You would be better off paying a little extra and getting the E25. Rep in the pc byte deal can do the E25 for mid $600 at the moment.

          • @8azinga: Got ya. Was just considering it because I have a $300 JB gift card to use haha

  • I'm sure it's fun, but everyone should look at it from another angle too. We're not nearly as physically active as we need to be, and then you replace a healthy walk with standing on a scooter. Not good.

    • +1

or commuting to work thereby not catching a bus and adding to the smog

    • Its not as simple as you've presented. I walk a healthy amount and scoot from time to time. Others use theirs to commute to the gym etc.

      • -4

Not sure what is your point. I didn't present anything, just said there is an angle worth looking from. Why scoot rather than walk or jog to the gym? Surely healthier.

        • +5

Cause most people are usually exhausted after a workout (hence the name)?

          • -3

@BargainKen: Thanks for letting us know how "most people" feel after a workout.

        • People may go to the gym to do particular exercises that don't occur while walking or running. Eg anything involving a machine with weights. Even if you go to the gym to do cardio, you can't run continuously in the streets, you have to stop for pedestrian crossings, other people, obstacles, etc. And the ground could be gravelly or have holes or rocks. It might not be safe for running, if there's no footpath. Most people have limited time in their day, time spent walking or jogging to the gym is time they can't spend doing something else (either time spent doing productive exercises at the gym, or other stuff). If they can get to and from the gym quickly they have more time for this stuff.

Think first, judge second - then you might not need to judge after all as you've already understood the other person's side.

          • -6

@Quantumcat: Just wondering if you're responding to my post or someone else's. I really can't tell, specifically since you used the word "judge", and you also patronise by using "think first". I don't think it applies to any of the posts above, mine or the others.

        • Personally, I would use this to replace driving to certain places. It takes 10min to drive to my gym, where it would take about an hour to walk there.. With this, maybe 15min?

          • @buckethat: Sure. Everyone to their own. I think you'll end up driving most of the time anyway.

I own an eclectic bike, and it's great fun, really nice, but I rarely ever use it. I rather walk when I need to carry anything, or drive if I have to carry a bag or any equipment. Car is the only reasonable option if I'm playing sports that require some equipment, even if it's just shoes and balls, for instance. Scooter would be completely impractical.

            • +1

@mrau: I think it makes a lot of sense for people who are living in the CBD in apartments and working in the CBD as well.

Though you're right, it might be a novelty that wears off after a few weeks. Either way, I hope the law catches up in a sensible manner that will allow me to consider this as an option without the risk of getting fined.

  • Anyone have any decent helmet recommendations? As well as accessories?

    • I wear a regular Skater helmet. But you could wear a full-face BMX helmet if you want to be extra safe. Make sure to wear gloves a jacket and good shoes. Also, Eye Protection is a must.

      • Got any good links for decent helmets?

        • +1

I use a Pro-Tec classic. You can get them from any Skate or Surf shop. But TBH a helmet from KMART should do the job if they are Aus standard. If you want full-face, Pushys sell them, but they are quite expensive.

      • +2

in QLD shoes are optional and if indeed used a thong, jackets don't exist, gloves are exclusively used to handle dangerous materials. Eye protection - yepp, that's sunnies.

    • Leatt MTB 8.0. It has both the bicycle AS/NZS 2063:2008 standard and the motorcycle ECE 22.05 standard. So it should offer more protection than most bicycle helmets. I'd imagine that it would weigh a bit more though. It's expensive though ($399 USD here).

  • So im stuck between getting the Mrs a Scooter 2 pro (Will have to wait for another sale) or this one. Is there any massive difference other than 45km vs 30km distance?

    • -2

Probably slash both by 1/3 and you have a more realistic distance for each.

  • Is this pretty much the same specs as the Xiaomi M365?

    • +1

Apparently this is the new model of the M365.

  • Can you buy larger batteries?

    • will check with Elon

    • +1

Not larger but Ive seen addon where depending how its wired it can either increase capacity (parallel) or increase speed (series 48v). Extra battery doesnt mount as well as the inbuilt of course.

  • +7

So you can rent the covid unsafe scooters in adelaide but you can't byo? Stupid law

  • +1

prices are coming down and that's always a good thing

    • Maybe they got a sneak peek at new regulations for scooters which might be limited to 200W to be legal so are trying to clear out stock?
      I really hope not.

  • price up now

  • is this different from 2 pro?

  • OMG, i bought too early $479 @ PCByte (they also charged admin fee $4.84)
    the actual price is $483.84

    • This deal is PC Byte using a different name. Just lucky that the ebay code came up.

Man..the dispatch is slower than I was hoping for….
Bought, posted on OzB, still waiting for dispatch.

    • Haha, hope it doesn't drop the price meanwhile.

    • Says it is directly fulfilled by supplier on the PC Byte page. When i looked on ebay on Friday, it said delivery by 3rd March so it could get dispatched tomorrow and be an overnight courier. I'm in Sydney though.

    • Same here! Still waiting for dispatch on mine. Oh well, hopefully worth the wait!

    • Mine says "Pickup failed. Item not ready." Ordered Friday. Anyone's been dispatched yet?

      • I got the same…still waiting.

        • Yeah same here.
I've sent a message to the seller and they've said they will investigate if there is an issue at the warehouse.

          Wait and see I guess.

    • Hi,

Thank you for the message. We have been updated by our warehouse that the item has been shipped since 1 March 2021 by our supplier and we are currently waiting for them to update us on the new tracking details.

Since eBay doesn't recognise the supplier tracking, we have to manually update it first and update is again once we receive the tracking details. It's a "marketplace" auto sync feature that we cannot turn off.

However, we assure you that it has been shipped already on our supplier side.

      Regards,

      • Hrm, anyone taken delivery yet?

        I'm in Bris, nothing received.

        • Same..still waiting.
I got a courier please tracking number, which then got updated to a Startrack Express. Shows to be "at the delivery depot" in Brisbane.

        • Mine just updated to "out for delivery" this morning - also in Brisbane. Today could be the day!

          • @dealsandstuff: I'm still on 'Information Received' since Thursday. but I'm also in Brisbane so hopefully over the next few days!

  • For anyone in NSW, doesnt look like it will be legalised any time soon.

Update. With a brief scooter review.

I ordered from Melbourne. Received my scooter Friday morning. Great scooter. I had only ordered the scooter Monday. Very good deal so thanks to the original post. The new 1s is great with the larger rear light and rear guard being more secure especially. There are a few of the older models around without the larger rear light and it really is improved.

The 1s can do mild hills only, but in reality if you have a lot of hills I would pay the extra $150 and get the Xiaomi Pro 2, the larger motor and bigger battery pack have a little bit more grunt for hills. I am in a flat area with one main hill, it is 4 degree incline, but a long one and the 1S can do it okay (9kmh) The climb degrees numbers on scooters are deceiving. 14% the Xiaomi claims the scooter can do is about right. But the scooters should put the hill incline on, not the % number.

The Xiaomi Pro 2 claims a 20% incline, (not degree hill incline,) which as I say it does have a better motor and battery pack. Note-I did a 18km trip yesterday, with one long hill and at the end of the trip I had 22% power left. Hills take a huge chunk of life out of your battery pack hence I again would suggest if you have a lot of Hills pay the extra for the Xiaomi Pro 2 with the larger battery. The speed is 25kmh on a flat smooth surface which is plenty fast for any scooter IMO.

I always wear a helmet, and too be honest just cruise at about 10-15kmh in most places, no rush. I have seen lots of people come off on hire scooters in Canberra, always doing the wrong thing, too fast, riding into ditches and being smart and showing off. As mentioned the scooters are technically illegal in Victoria, but if you ride carefully, do not speed, wear a helmet, and do not weave fast among pedestrians, be respectful, then the Police seem fine with that. Many chose to go over the 25kmh rough set limit, and ride in a wild manner, and I have seen them pulled up by Police. I live inner city so the majority of the hundreds of scooters I see do the right thing, but there is always a few who are in a race.

Anyway thanks again to the original poster for the deal update. $449 is a very fair price.

    • I thought even if you go <10kmh it would still be illegal because it has the capacity to go over 10?

    • Does your's get to 100% charge? I got mine today and charged it first thing. The light on the power pack changed from red to green after less than 1 hour.
Turned it on and only 4 out of 5 bars showing for battery. Connect to the app and it says 75% battery.

Also says to update firmware every time i connect the app. Says it is updating the bluetooth module every time.

      • Mine charges 100% every time. It did one update first up. And now Cruise control can be enabled. Odd as many had said cruise was disabled. Still i would not use cruise, better to stay alert.
I sat mid setting and don't go over 20kmh, saves battery and gives me 30km range and I did not buy the scooter to race at 25kmh and break something as numerous riders have who speed over bumps hills etc.
The 12.5kg weight is a winner, the pro model has longer range i do not need but the extra kg are a lot when you have to carry the scooter into a builder or up stairs etc.
The rear light stays on which is a great safety feature. Only addition I am making is front suspension at some stage via the $90 kit. Takes 3 hours but I see the difference it makes is huge on bumps.

  • down to $399.20 with the afterpay deal for the next couple of days

  • Are the 250w e-scooters like the 1S legal to ride on footpaths around the Gold Coast?

  • Just received this - how on earth are you supposed to pair this in Mi Home? Doesnt turn up on any of the regions for me (China, Singapore, Australia..)
Seems you just plug it in, turn it on..and it should turn up right?

OK i needs Australia :| Kind of annoying as all my Xiaomi stuff is on China oh well
