Was keen to watch the series but I'd heard great things about the book so I thought I'd give it a whirl first. At $3.99, it seemed like a no brainer.

About 20% into the book right now and it's pretty incredible.

  I owned this book when I was younger and it wasn't a book, it was a brick! I think it was 1000 pages long so definitely getting your moneys worth.

  Anyone else watch the show?

  I watched 4 episodes and thought it was just ok, not sure I'll continue watching.

    The remake is so so. The book, of course, and the 90s mini series are much better.

    It's absolute tripe. Basically a snapshot of 90s/early 2000s cable TV and some producers/execs thinking they can just bring something from the past without updating a single part like we're all just mindless sheep its almost insulting. Not sure where upto but that seen with the former soldier and general I was just waiting for a big salute one of those "thankyou for your service' beyond cringe US moments. Characters are just stupid, in no way does any character present as a plausible actual person. Villian was stupid, all that hovering crap just why?? The ending so stupid..Worst show I have watched in a very long time.

  Ok just out of interest I can never get the deals on the kindle. Always says it’s not available.

  Any idea if this is the original or the expanded edition?

  Apparently the original is much better (and shorter)

    It's the expanded but I hear that it's pretty divided as to which is better, the expanded version gives more depth to the characters apparently.
    It does add another 200-300 pages though…

    I read the expanded edition and I cannot recommend it. I tried watching the series and got PTSD after the first episode. I won't be watching another episode. Do I blame the book? Yes, yes I do.
