    One Reverb or two Quest 2's…..hmmmmmm

    • Different uses. Reverb for sims, if one is so inclined.

    • I do wonder if I'd have been so much happier had I gotten a Quest instead, still pretty good screens, but good tracking, so I hear

    Good price.
    Awesome headset itself, such clear graphics and comfortable fit

    It's a pity the controllers let it down soo much I would recommend you avoid it unless it's;
    -your 1st headset, so have no thing to compare it to
    -play sims, not shooters
    -have a dedicated play area with full black-out capability, or only play at night
    - don't mind always holding your arms out so you can actually see your hands all the time

    I come from a Rift S that has no issues with the IR controllers, the G2 visible light controllers however are a huge step down, bulky, no capacitive touch, can't leave arms at your side and expect it to track smoothly (G2 cameras don't look down well enough compared to Rift S, so tracking is lost a LOT)

    I still persevere with it hoping they can patch better movement prediction, but it has overall been a huge disappointment, apart from the graphics (they do need some tweaking too)

    Oh and AMD users… budget in buying a powered USB 3 hub, many MB's don't supply sufficient power and it won't work at all)
    Also may need to budget in getting some 1.5v rechargeable batteries, as you want your controllers LEDS as bright as they can be (Eneloops aren't going to cut it)

      had no issues with any of the cons until those last six words

      • Yep, I see plenty of people that say no issues, I am not sure if this is because you/they;
        never used a competing product
        don't play the same games that need good tracking close to face
        have a better play space
        running Intel maybe?
        like to hold arms extended, rather than resting by sides often
        Or my unit is defective like a large % that also find tracking terrible

        Wish I knew

    • their pickiness for higher voltage cells seems to be a Windows Mixed Reality thing. I had sort of the same issues with 1.2v batteries with the $99 dollar Lenovo WMR headset.

      It'll still work but your controllers will frequently go into 'power saving' mode because it thinks the batteries are at critical levels, even when they're still fresh.

    • Yeah we felt like that about the tracking out of the box but it's so much dependent on the environment. In sub-optimal conditions it's a compromised experience for sure. We inadvertently pumped the lights which was the wrong thing to do. In moderate light with plenty of contrast it's been flawless (girl plays beatsaber expert+ and tears it up).

      Really important to have an understanding of the capture window though. It's not as wide as some other other HMD's due to the 4 cameras. When the motion controllers leave that zone the predictive tracking is really good for natural movements, and it picks the controllers up instantaneously when they're back in view, but if you leave them outside that area for any length of time the tracking will suffer.

      • Yep at night playing is pretty good, with 1.5v lithium batteries, and having to keep my arms stretched out so they are always in view, but when my previous setup had no such requirements, it's very disappointing
        It has made me better at shooters, as I can't ever assume the weapon will move with me and so I have improved hand-eye coordination feedback.

    • How would you compare clarity of image between this one and Oculus rift-s?
      I've heard the Quest 2 has less screen door effect but has less clarity then rift-s,(ability to read text) which isn't very good, but this has less screen door and noticably better clarity of image?

      • +1

        Going back to rift S makes you remember that screen door effect was an actual thing in the past…

        This has significantly better ability to read text (some though have major issues finding the sweet spot, but I don't and I wear glasses)
        There really is zero screen door effect, it's why I haven't gone back to my Rift S from G2, the clarity is really amazing (I haven't tried a Quest 2 to compare that)

        The 3d crossover (the section in the middle that both eyes see) for me is less than the rift S too, but doesn't practically change gameplay for me unless you look for it

      • I have a G2. The image quality is superb, essentially no screen door etc.

  • If anybody has some outside in tracking controllers already (Vive or whatever) you can pair them up with the G2 for the best of both worlds. :D That said, I've not found the controllers all that bad… Only had the Vive to compare to. Beat saber doesn't seem to have been affected too badly.

  • wow this deal came at a perfect time. Thanks for sharing.
