When will the stock shortage end?
I'm looking to buy one and can't find it anywhere. Working 9 to 5 doesn't help when they release it online.

For it to get to "normal" levels, its going to take until Q4 2021.
But if you mean when is it going to get to the surplus levels, where its cheaper and easier for them to mass produce, and that there are deals left-right-and-centre…maybe another 6 months on top.
Rant:
Neither PS4/XB1 had such issues, nor their Pro/X variants. I think the PS3/360 had some shortages initially but not as extended as this, and during those times PC Gaming still had a decent edge over the consoles. I think the Nintendo Switch is the closest to not keeping up with demand, but that's because Nintendo never intended for it to be successful (high priced, low powered, gimmicks, etc etc). As a fan of those Nintendo games, I'm just venting my disappointment because the latest Switch is still in the same class of Xbox 360 performance (720p/30/Low), when we have the likes of the Xbox seX performance (4K/60/High) in the mainstream.
PS4 had shortages for 6 months post launch. There were no price drops until 2 years after launch. We went back shortages following the start of the Pandemic both the standard/pro has been out of stock or low stock since and never recovered.
I agree on shortages till Q4 2021.
Not quite accurate.
PS4 owner here, the "shortages" was because demand was stupidly high. Which was understandable, the Xbox 360 was out 8 YEARS at that point. After 6 months there were plenty of stock everywhere. No deals came until after a year, and you were mostly looking at a couple dollars shaved off with couple games/controller thrown in for free. So really, no stock issues or deal issues when it came to the PS4/XB1. It's not logical to talk about PS4 shortages in 2020, since we all knew Sony was reducing their manufacturing (prelude to discontinue) to make way for the PS5 release.
I think it helps for people to remember:
PS5 costs about AUD$800 for Sony to make (the Xbox is even higher), we buy it for $750, whilst wholesale retailers buy it a bit cheaper eg $730. So realistically each unit sold, Sony is losing about $100 on it. The reason Sony does this and still turns a profit, is because they have the consumers then buy PS+ subscription, games, accessories, and within 1 month-2 years, they will recoup those losses and turn a profit. If you were to build a Gaming PC to rival the PS5, it would cost you double that amount basically. That's how much of a value they represent. And that's one aspect as to why there is a strong demand.
I wonder why they didn't list it for more
@mmd: Competing with Xbox. Sony released their pricing after Xbox did and everyone thinks they adjusted it to be competitive.
Maybe things will have settled down by ~Christmas, so best adjust your expectations.
By then you'd end up with a more mature platform & hardware revisions, so it's not all bad.
@mmd try calling vodafone, i got one delivered within 2 days no extra shipping charge amount payable was 749.5 also which is on plan but i would pay the remaining at the end of month one. Normally they ask for you to have 2 current services but i used my mates phone number and details and got delivered to his address (2 blocks from my house). Also when i called them they didn't ask about having a second service as he only had one ongoing phone plan. Go try your luck.
cheers im not with vodaphone tho
managed to get one via target :)
PS5 stock shortage will end when the PS5 Pro is released in 2023/24
Getting desperate for the ps5. Stock must be low
Its probably a marketing tactic called artificial stock shortage to get more attention. Apple pioneered it.
Buyer beware.
(Trigger warning to sony fanbois, and I’m one of them) I got one launch day, but you’re not really missing out on much at the moment until AAA ps5 titles come out. Mainly waiting on the next Horizon game, but Ratchet and Clank looks good…. in June. The haptic controller is the best thing about the ps5, but the current range of games don’t really push it, except for astros playroom. Haven't turned it on for the last couple of weeks. Just chill and when they’re available you’ll score on. Follow push start on FB as they sometime publish when stock is available online
I kind of agree. The current range of PS5 titles is really poor but as someone with an extensive PS4 library, it's nice running tonnes of stuff at 4K 60fps plus. Given I was looking at a PS4 Pro before the PS5 release, I'm getting my use out of it. And Astro's Playroom was damn cool - the controller is definitely the coolest art.
Thanks for the honesty. I was a little bummed from missing out but in hindsight it seems that I just caught up in the viral sensation. I really don't need a Ps5 - I still have a huge backlog of Ps4 games that I like to play and upgraded graphics mean nothing to me. A lot of new titles like Elden Ring are also coming to Ps4 anyway, so I'm in no rush.
Some manger from eb games said in some article I read somewhere, was that it was 6 months after the ps4 came out you could walk in from the street and buy one. He said Sony advised them 6 months with the ps4 and it was 6 months. He states with the ps5 not even Sony can give them a answer.
Seems scalpers will have some time yet.
I still have fond memories of buying my PS4 around Halloween 2014 at JB. They were selling the PS4 bundled with The Last of Us Remastered, The Evil With and Alien Isolation. In hindsight it was a very good value for money compared to other consoles I have bought over the years. I can't imagine PS5 price dropping in 2 years after release.
I have fond memories of receiving 6x free PS3's from Sony :) Was fitting out a family members new business the same time Sony & Good guys had a sale. Ended up shipping different units to different addresses, to ensure we received all the bonus units.
was that the deal where u get a free ps3 when u buy a tv?
Yes.
I also still have my PS3 from that Sony redemption deal back in 2008. My parents just went out and bought a Sony Bravia during the promo period, gave me the receipt and 2 weeks later, I was playing MGS4 and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune.
There was some stock at amazon about 15 min ago, obviously, it went out stock after 2 minutes.
My rant: Yes, it is very frustrating, especially because it seems that scalpers seem to continue to be able to get their hands on stock.
My 13yo son saved up his own money and asked for only contributions to the 'PS5 fund' for his birthday. He has had enough money for one since launch day when we went shopping for it in person (like chumps) to find that there was no stock. He tried to put his name down at EB Games and all Vic JB HiFis that had their telephone number on the JB website, but with no luck and he was in tears. He has been checking Press Start, OzBargain and the individual retailer websites at least twice a day most days over the last month or more (as have I), but we seem to miss out on stock by minutes.
I keep telling him that the shortage should end soon, but some of the above comments suggest that might not be the case.
Holy cow, this one scalper on ebay sold 32 ps5 for more than $1200 up to $1800 (https://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&ite…). That's almost $18k profits (after postage costs).
wow they sold for $1800 in december.
must be someone on the inside to get a steady supply
Probably a games store owner scalping on eBay.
No one knows. Another few months at least with the current AMD yield shortages.
