    How much is it normally?

    • +38

Good morning jv. It is $19.90 normally.

    • Don't forget the double * for bold text

how many years does this type of extinguisher typically remain good for?

    • +4

Rule of thumb is 5 years, but most will easily see 10-12. Just check the pressure on a regular basis and replace if need be.

  • Does anyone know if we can buy these for small businesses for fire safety equipment use?

Currently we have to get a company to come out and service the bigger fire extinguisher and blanket every 6 months for close to $150.

Would these be sufficient for small business fire safety regulations?
(We run a sport centre with NO kitchen/No gas/NO cookings )

I guess the fire risk there is black soled shoes on the floor.

Does your State require lodgement of an AFSS to council? If so your contractor is visiting 6 monthly as required by AS1851, As well as checking everything is functional and compliant, they stamp the tag on each asset, provide a report and their CFSP will provide Annual certification that you would lodge to Council and the fire brigade to ensure you can continue to run your business,
That's what the $150 provides. Time, knowledge, equipment and the CFSP accreditation to provide certification.
You could indeed install these as they will be AS compliant but you will need your contractor to attend, provide tags, possibly signage if in a new location, stamp them and add them to an asset register.

      • Never heard of anything you mentioned.
Is it more relaxed in qld?

        • I believe it is less legislated than in NSW but there are still similar requirements.

Thanks Aldi for giving Bunnings a run for their money. Anyone reckons Bunnings would have reduced the price if Aldi had not put it on sale? Love Bunnings but for this I’d rather buy from Aldi and encourage healthy competition

(profanity) Bunnings and the Wesfarmers monopoly business model. They've been screwing Aussie's for way too long. "Warehouse prices" my ass. Thank god for Aldi, we need more people to support them.

a privately owned foreign company vs a publicly owned Australian one.

I'm fan of aldi but the world is a complicated place.

        • +5

Foreign heroes vs Australian villains? I am unsure if the profits for those so called Australian owned companies are just resellers help us all for a fair go other than the more they screw us in a monopoly environment the more we become their slaves. I would rather support those companies truly innovate and manufacture in Australia than those import and resell for incredible markups.

Went looking for a window whiper / squeegy at Bunnings - prices wow.

      • -2

(profanity) you don't think aldi is screwing Australians?

        • +5

Everyone wants to screw anyone who is available and willing. It's all about the Chi ching y'all.

      • +1

        I agree with Monopoly
When Masters gone Bunnings closed so many stores.
Those sites were purchased by Kaufland which got screwd by Coles and WOW together.

    • From an investor (no I am not) / business strategy (yes I am, not for Bunnings) point of view Bunnings pricing model is great. If you notice their pricing is weird … meaning it is never to the dollar or .99c or what not like most places. Its mostly $20.36 / $5.62 / $9.87 etc etc.

Combine this with the fact they are in a "warehouse" environment it makes people think it is the cheapest price out there. Which in some cases it is (meaning the quality is questionable) or it straight out is not.

I had an argument with my Boss once who said we should target "Bunnings" because that is where all the tradies go. Her argument was that it is cheap and everything is in once place. My final point to her was "So does that mean all 5 star chefs go to Woolies because they are the 'fresh food people?'"

If your a true "ozbargainer" you'll do your research anyway and if your not your putting in an helping Bunnings employ people which makes the economy go round.

      Win win either way #shrugs

      • It’s just a convenient place for home tradies, and for actual tradies just where to grab extra supplies. It’s biggest selling point is convenience because there are so many Bunnings now.

We had proper competition, Masters, but no one went shopping. So deal with it 😉

    • +1

I've seen massive price creep on prices at Bunnings over the years as their competition is stifled. I was spewing when Masters failed. I was really hoping for a good competitor to Bunnings. I never even got to visit one as they never came to Tassie. At least in NZ they have a few different major hardware chains compared to Australia.

My local largish Mitre 10 aren't that great price wise either, but I think I'm going to have to try and support them more. There's no Aldi in Tassie either.

  • Has anyone here bought one? Does it have a metal date code thing attached to it, that gets stamped to show it's been inspected annually? Thanks

    • Nope, no date stamp. There is a pressure gauge, a plastic seal and a safety pin.

      • Thanks

Guys buy from Aldi. Encourage some competition for bunnings..

    • +4

Aldi never have special buys I want in stock I've given up wasting time making a special trip. also Bunnings have stock to do an exchange if there's a problem.

      • It is a waste of time

  • +2

No one recommends buying lawnmower from Aldi for the sake of competition. Fire extinguishers, everyone is on board.

    • +3

Less consumable, spare parts and after sales support needed with a fire extinguisher that has to meet Australian standards.

  • Better buy the combo with fire blanket. These FirePro extinguishers seem to be OK, I fixed one in my car as well with the cradle.

    • Combo is $26.9

Is it worth getting one for home? How will l dispose of it?

    • Set it on fire and watch it implode

    • do they have bins where you live?

      • Not sure it's a good idea to just throw everything in general garbage bin but I guess that's what most people do anyway.

    • +1

Talk to your local fire brigade, most state authorities will have either a disposal program they run themselves or can point you in the right direction. Alternatively, try the nearest rubbish tip in case the local council can do it for you as well. Thankfully, dry chemical extinguishers are very low toxicity (it's usually just sodium bicarbonate, which is essentially baking soda) so they're not a huge environmental concern like the old Halon types or the special grease-fire extinguishers commercial kitchens need.

    • Our local council regularly has a chemical cleanout weekend where they collect these and other special items.

  • +6

Everyone should have a couple of these things in their house. Just be aware that they last for only a few seconds. If the fire is bigger than you are then you're unlikely to put it out.

    • +6

Precisely the reason I'm not a huge fan of them. The fire blankets are likely to be more effective, they'll put out the same size fire that these tiny extinguishers are able to manage and be less awkward and frightening to use. Above all, learn how to use them (blanket and extinguisher) before an event ever happens so you're prepared at the time. The fire won't wait around for you while you're busy reading the instructions on the label.

  • For anyone in Melbourne, I saw today someone selling fire extinguishers on Facebook Marketplace for $5.each, full and charged. Pick from in Scoresby during business hours. From the photos posted appeared to be a business selling these. Plenty in stock. I am not associated. You will have to do your own research into the listing.

  • Is the 🔥blanky re-usable??

    • +1

We'll if the blanky kicked the🔥's ass, yes, probably. But if the 🔥 kicked the blankys ass … no. probably not after that.
