Not a bad deal, but worth noting that for anyone who just wants to watch the show, all four seasons are currently free to stream on SBS On Demand (until June 29). https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/12-monkeys

    • Never watched the series but loved the movie. How is the series compared to the move?

        It's very different.

The movie will never be replaced.

It starts off based loosely on the film's plot (a virus that wipes out most of humanity) but then becomes something entirely different, wider reaching and honestly, jumps the shark. Entire seasons end up being all for nothing. It did not need to be as long as it was.

If you watched just season 1, I think you will like it. The rest of the seasons are not boring but I have difficulty justifying why they need to exist. To me it felt like they dragged it out because ratings were good and they did it for profit.

Some of the plot threads are ridiculous.

I saw the film recently after watching S4 and the movie is still as good as it ever was.

Ask you would expect with the recent classic movie to TV series cash-ins, woefully disappointing.

  • +1

season 1 was good but later seasons really milked it as long as they could. S2 and S3 were still entertaining but I didn't like S4.

They could have used an editor and trimmed half the episodes.

  • +3

clearly 2 nuanced for some - the tv series is one of the best time travel shows ever - even some who aren't sci fans love it.

    • i think it's entertaining, but I have a ton of criticisms of it. I would compare it to Lost. That show got really stupid but was never boring.

      • It got really stupid? It always was stupid. From the very first episode it was totally ludicrous.

I'm all for suspension of disbelief but Lost was just trolling us.

        • i loved the first season, when all the supernatural stuff did not take front and center. The first three seasons were very good. Then weird stuff started happening and it got weirder and weirder. It was still entertaining, but not quality writing.

I would put 12 Monkeys in somewhat of a similar boat. I never hated what I was watching, except maybe S4, but I really wanted them to end it quick. They were trying very hard to extend it as long as they could. I can't go into detail because there's no way to hide spoilers in these comments.

I'll never find the time to watch them.

  • I forgot to add, one pet peeve of mine is the ridiculous amounts of causal loops (aka bootstrap paradox) this show commits. It's not logically consistent. A causal loop is a sequence of events that leads back to itself and has no origin. A causes B, B causes C, C causes A. There's no beginning or end to this loop, so how did it get started in the first place? This show is full of these. A self fulfilling prophecy is one form of causal loop.

It even forgets its own rules. If two of the same object come into contact, it causes a 'paradox' which is another word for a massive explosion. By the same object I mean, if you take your favorite knife back in time and that knife comes into contact with the same knife from a year earlier, it would cause an explosion because… reasons (I will ignore the fact that there's no logical reason for what would cause such an explosion). However, that doesn't apply to people. If you meet a younger or older version of yourself, you can touch or even fight them without consequence. Why is that OK but if an inanimate object touches a copy of itself, they explode? They never answer that question. They never even acknowledge that there's an inconsistency.

      • it was definitely a causal loop.

There are dozens of instances where characters go back in time to investigate some clue (Climb the steps, ring the bell is one example), but then it turns out they were the ones who left that clue in the first place. So where did the tip to go back and investigate then/there originally come from?

The show even acknowledges this with the whole "snake that ate its own tail" prophecy.

Isn't the + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $39 Spend) in the title a bit redundant? The cost is already over the qualifying amount. It's free for everyone.

    • Price is $164 now. I think it's over.

  • Damn, is anyone really into the 12 Monkeys TV show that much?

  • +1

    I don't really understand all the hate/negativity.

I thought it was a great show.

As the first comment suggests, watch it for free on SBS on Demand and decide for yourself if you like it. I'm sure this special edition will go on sale again (it's been on sale in the past and present, and will again in the future), so you do have time in your hands to make up your own mind.
