[VIC, TAS] 4x Gold Class eVouchers (Valid for Use 15/2 - 7/4 except after 5pm Fri and Sat) $80 @ Village Cinemas

112

Village are offering a discount deal for Gold Class Vouchers, with a couple of caveats.

You can get 4 Gold Class eVouchers for $80. These vouchers can only be used for sessions between February 15 (sorry romantics) and April 7 and are not valid after 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. It also costs $3.25 per voucher to redeem online (no cost in person). Village says the offer to purchase is for a limited time so I have no idea when they will stop selling the discounted vouchers.

Might be a good idea to make Feb 15 Tightarse Love Day and go on a double date!

11/2 Update: Village sent an email out saying the last day to purchase is tomorrow.

I'm using mine for March 14

  • with a couple of caveats.

The biggest issue I've had with the discounted tickets I've purchased is that there's nothing really on.
Plus they give you a specific time frame in which to see films. Maybe I need to lower my expectations for a movie and go see "Trolls: Is the Horse Dead Yet?" or something.

    • It's usually why the cinemas do these restricted times and dates promotions. To get bums on seats when there aren't big blockbusters showing.

Don't pre purchase anything from these crooks.

Here is the email reply from customer service asking if my vouchers could be extended as the cinema had been closed for so long.

"Unfortunately your gift product purchase cannot be refunded or exchanged and can only be used as per the terms and conditions stated on it.

To avoid confusion, the terms and conditions were listed on our online gift shop prior to purchase. If you are unable to use the product yourself within the validity period, we would suggest perhaps giving them to someone who can.

I do apologise for any frustration this may cause, in no way do we intend to personally upset our customers, we must adhere to our policy and communicate correct and honest information to our customers, even if it is a response that may not result in the outcome our customers had hoped for"

    Screw these guys.

    • I heard about the bad PR they copped because of this issue. They stayed quiet about it for too long. They eventually came out with this. Not sure how this affects your personal situation:

Gift Card & Vouchers expiring between March 23 and November 30, 2020 have automatically been extended, at minimum to March 31, 2021.
Gift Card & Vouchers expiring after December 1, 2020 have been automatically extended by eight months.

    • They extended mine last time…..(I asked for 3 year extension)

      Good morning,

      Thank you for your reply.

Expiry date changes have recently been made. However, the 3 year expiry date only applies to full priced gift vouchers sold after November 1st, 2019 and standard gift cards (these begin with 90360077) sold after April 1st, 2018. It also does not include promotions or discounted products or products sold prior to these dates.

As your vouchers are promotional and purchased at a significant discount ($20.00 each, compared to our standard price of $42.00 each), the 36 month validity period does not apply. Having a shorter validity period allows us to offer these types of products at such a great price.

At this stage we can only extend your products until 30th November, 2020. However, this may be reviewed again in the coming months. We would suggest contacting us again in December if you have been unable to redeem them before then.

      Kind regards,

      Simone

  • 60 day expiry on vouchers. Dont know how they get away with it considering the legal crackdown on gift card expiries where merchants were forced to increase expiry dates to years or even in some cases removed expiry

    • Village cinema response on my query.:

The Gold Class Super Pass is sold at a heavily reduced price and as such comes with a limited validity period. Having restrictions on the passes allows us to sell them at a such an attractive price. The terms and conditions are advertised several times on the path to purchase, and we do make customers agree to the terms and conditions prior to purchase. Further, the validity period is advertised throughout the path to purchase. Of course, if the validity period does not fit your particular circumstances or preferences, you are not obliged to purchase the product.

I have recorded and stored your feedback in our Customer Service database and passed onto the appropriate management team to consider for future promotions.

      • I’d love if they could logically explain this: “ Having restrictions on the passes allows us to sell them at a such an attractive price.”

How does price relate to expiry times? It sounds like faff.

The only thing I can come up with us in some sort of shady risk analysis. Where the probability of the customer not using the gift card/credit is kept low so as to mitigate the risk they might get to use the product (see a movie) for a low price.

Laws came into effect in November 2019 to have a 3 year minimum for vouchers and cards as well as other conditions.

There are exceptions though, one of which is that the 3 years expiry doesn’t apply if it’s “sold for a particular good or service at a genuine discount”

So basically if the card or voucher is sold below the usual price, the merchant can put any restriction on it. https://consumerlaw.gov.au/new-gift-card-laws

And in this case, price relates to expiry times because there are not many big movies being released in the next few weeks, so Village want to entice more people to come in so they offer deals like this.
