Toshiba 100hz 42" LED LCD TV (Model: 42SL800A) $550 after Cashback

310

OK I was in the market for a second TV, I reckon is worth the price for the features that this TV comes with.

Toshiba 42LS800A..Retail for $749 at Harvey Norman. I got it for $700 minus $150 Prepaid Credit Card via Redemption (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58984)…Total comes to $550. However, for some reason it seems like only Harvey Norman stock this particular model. Anyway main thing is that this is a 100Hz TV compared to most TV at this price is usually 50Hz!!

  • cool another one to keep an eye on at boxing day sales

    • if there are any left as its seems a pretty good price

  • Wow, nice price for the size/specs.

  • Yep, good price. Same here thinking to score either Samsung UA40D5000 or LG 42LV3730 or Sony KDL40EX520 or this one on boxing day.

    • Of course noting that every one you listed there was 50Hz vs. the 100 on this one. Samsung might have a nicer picture but idk

  • Which specs are right for the screen refresh rate 50HZ or 100 HZ. The Harvey Norman website is 50HZ and the Toshiba website says 100HZ. I only want this TV if its 100HZ. How did you get it down to $700. To get the $150 cash back did you go on the Toshiba website.

    • It is $749 dollars on Harvey Norman's website now and it includes the $150 Citibank Prepaid Debit MasterCard. So I guess a $50 dollar haggle isn't too hard.

    • If this is a 32" then 50Hz would be ok, but for 42" I think is best to have a 100Hz. I'm no expert though…
This TV is a 100Hz and is mentioned on both Toshiba and Harvey Norman website, you were probably looking at the lower end model which is 50Hz (42HL800A) on the Harvey Norman website. For some reason they are the same price…weird!!

Here is the link to the two model
      42SL800A model - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-42-full-high-definiti…
      42HL800A model - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-full-high-definition-…
Both model comes with $150 cash back, but why would want a 50Hz when you can have 100Hz for the same price and has more features.

How I get it down to $700?? I asked for it and sale rep said no, was about to walk out when he called me back in…but like T Scott said, $50 dollar haggle shouldn't be too hard.

If this is a 32" then 50Hz would be ok, but for 42" I think is best to have a 100Hz.

Why is that??? I'm really looking forward to your rationale on this theory! :p

        • -1

haha…no theory or facts on this…like I said i'm not expert, just personal opinion..but the extra refresh rate would help for a larger screen wouldn't it?

        • -2

but the extra refresh rate would help for a larger screen wouldn't it?

          Umm, no.

Especially given that there is no "extra refresh rate"; it's time for you & about half of OzB to do some research on what MC actually means, dude! ;)

          oh the arrogance

        • -1

          Oh, the ignorance!

Typical, plenty of negs, however no intelligent rebuttal…why am I not surprised! ;)

        • +4

apparently it's not arrogance if you put annoying smiley faces at the end of every sentence :):):):):):)

        • -2

Apparently the best argument in the debate so far focuses on my use of emoticons…what's next, spelling, grammar or punctuation??? :p

Honesty, you've gotta know the IQs at OzB are plummeting when the same asinine 100Hz TV comments keep cropping up almost hourly despite evidence to the contrary being readily available. As with here, most of the people giving so-called advice are just plucking it out of their asses!!!

I can afford to be a little arrogant, I actually put in the time & effort to do the research…being too lazy is no excuse for ignorance! :)

Its $650 at Wow sight and sound, so $500 after cash back.

    • +3

A neg is a bit harsh, if I bought off wow I'd have to pay $50+ for shipping… As anyone in victoria(minus shepparton) and western states too.

      • also as ruship mentioned, wow is a different model.

    • +1

      agree with berger2.

"gumbs", why didnt you post this deal when you spot this deal? by neging people, you feel superior?

      • I don't feel superior at all. I didn't think the Wow deal was all that special, so I didn't put it up. I won't get in to the debate about 100Hz vs 50Hz or DLNA etc, but I wouldn't pay extra for either.

I probably should have researched the models better but I didn't have the WOW catalogue in front of me.

    • -1

      Great! They're both deals.

  • Another thing to think about when buying these tvs without wireless built in is the cost of the wifi dongle. The LG ones are reasonably priced $30 - $40 but the Sony ones are $80 - $100.

That can quickly eat up all the savings and discounts we all work so hard to get and find. I recently bought a Sony KDL32EX520 which at the end of the day only cost me $315 with free shipping thanks to you guys and this site plus my partners 10% off. Then i had to buy the Sony wifi dongle even with my partners 10% still cost $89.

Dont get me wrong im not really bitching i think i got a really good deal, i just think the wifi dongle cost should be considered. And a funny thing, im thinking about going to a wired connection because of reliability issues :(

    • +1

im really not sure why people need internet for their tvs. especially if you own a playstation or the likes :]

  • I guess the HN Deal is good as its 42SL800A (on receipt) while the WOW site only has 42HL800A
what i believe the difference is the SL is SMART TV with LAN MODULE while HL is missing this
does anyone else notice this? correct me if i'm wrong

    • HL is 50hz, 2 hdmi

      http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/compare?sku=42HL800A&sk…

its pretty heavily specced compared to the SL

Nice pickup by ruship. Bad gumbs.

      • "heavily specced" as in cut down? Seems like SL is the winner in just about every aspect…I just hope it's possible to disable any motion smoothing tech. Is 100Hz the actual panel refresh rate, or just fancy software motion interpolation?

        • +1

both yes and no to both of your qs.

the panel may well update at 100Hz, but the only digital input is hdmi, which is only capable of 60Hz at 1920x1080 (1.4), thus interpolation.

any higher frequency input requires either dual-link DVI, or display-port, both of which are rare if not non-existant on units this cheap.

How sad. This 42" monster worths as much as a 4" mobile phone!

  • good price! +
    is that an internet tv??

  • I got the Toshiba VL800A 47 inch 3D 200Hz LED backlit TV for $900 after cashback at Harvey Norman. Did I get ripped off or is it cheap.

  • how do we know if the cashback offer is still valid or has been maxed out? i know the promotion is only for first 1000 people?

  • I can't access the page where this TV is on-line has it been taken down because of stock. I talked to one of the sales consultants at Bondi Harvey Norman and he told me they have low stock of the TV and it will be on back order.

  • Anyone bought this TV at a Harvey Norman in Sydney for $700 or cheaper. If so which one and how did you ask for the discount. I'm not good at asking for discounts, I tried asking at Wiley Park Harvey Norman but the sales guy wouldn't do it for $700. Best he could do was $10. I may just buy the TV at the original price and get the $150 redemption.

  • Bought this at Harvey Norman Gepps Cross, SA today for $680. Registered for my $150 redemption. Remember to ask for an extra copy of the receipt to be sent to Toshiba.
