Here’s a good deal for last generation’s Square Stand. You’ll need a 9.7” iPad with Lightning connector as this model is not compatible with the latest iPad. This Stand also comes with a USB hub for POS accessories (printer, barcode scanner), a Square Reader and charging Dock. I think this is a super easy to use and affordable touch screen point-of-sale solution. Transaction rates are 1.9% and your account gives you access to a range of free business tools and reporting. Full disclosure – I work for Square Australia.

Tyro got some issue few weeks ago as I remember…not sure about their service quality anymore.
Their software had a "bug" that was within their terminals brought on by an OTA(?) update. By the time they were made aware of their mistake, the fixed the "bug" but it was already too late for terminals that had received the update and were no longer able to connect.
I was working on the issue at my workplace when I got an email about it. Saved me the trouble of diagnosing my network and and infrastructure. lol.
So far Tyro's been doing a pretty decent job and have completely owned up to their "mistake" by:
* willing to schedule a courier to come get any (even ALL) payment terminals .. working or not
* reprogram / upload the bug fix for the terminals
* if customer is unable to wait, can bring the terminals to AusPost, have AusPost wrap, box and ship it at Tyro's cost (via immediate refund).
* will courier the items back (or post if you specified AusPost) ..I'm still waiting for the returned items.
They've been pretty good at keeping me post on the progress for my workplace.
I have experienced with big 4 merchants, 2 outages in average per year, then I moved to tyro, in the past 2 years, I never had a single problem tho, even the outage didn’t affect me at all. But I’m thinking if square can match up tyro’s fee, I would be happy to buy it as a backup
@ff0605: This only affected you if your device was
* part of that "cascade" tree of OTA(?) updates that were sent out
* if the device was turned on and connected to the network
* if was specific model terminals (ie, handheld portables were not affected)Support said "they caught it in time" that the update did not send through their other nodes.
Although handheld portables were not affected .. I had the ones we had sent back for a once over .. (I asked and they approved and will pay the bill transport fees) .. I felt safer having a "check" in case there may be other hidden issues that have not surfaced.
I did a "quick" looked into square for the business but it didn't meet our needs. As beautiful the hardware is, the software used must be their square software to handle the backend of things.
From what I understood from the sales rep i spoke with, it's an "all in one" system .. without being able to customize software for our venue's and retail shops .. it was a dead end.
I'd be happy to hear from a rep if things have changed in the past 2 years.
Personally, I LOVE the devices from the customer perspective .. clean, neat, unobtrusive and very professional looking.
Better than my VESA mounted NUC's attached to 27" touch screens I have for the POS.
Again, I'd be happy to hear from a rep if things have expanded and changed since then.
Custom rates are sometimes available for businesses that make over $250k a year. So, if you do $100k a month, I’d recommend a chat with our sales team and they can see what rates are possible for your business. You can call on 1800 870 189 or send an email from the website.
This was $150 @ officeworks quite some time ago.
Does the code work on the Terminal Hub?
IIRC square take the fees off the daily settlement figure before transferring and settlements are every 3 days? This could mess up any reporting if you use alongside another POS system that tracks stock/provides sales data as your settlement amounts won't align.
Promo code not working for me
Do you price match the transaction fees? As tyro’s transaction fee is halfed at 0.8%-1.1%. That way a $100k monthly transaction would end up nearly 1k differences
