  • 50mm 1.8 Canon should be $108 + $6.95 delivery - $100 voucher -5% Coupon Code on website

    $59.50 delivered?

    Pretty good

    • +1

Can't stack the 5% code, I tried already
      So $58+6.95 = $64.95

      Still good

  • +1

good deal if they have things you need… not a fan of their website… so many items listed as 'out of stock' or duplicated items with 2 different prices..

  • can shipping be covered within the $100 or is it $15 on top

  • $6.95 postage for some redeem online voucher code?? could have just sent over by email
    r u fxxxxxx serious groupon?

    • The $6.95 postage is for the item you purchase from the camera shop, not the coupon. the coupon is immediately accessible in your groupon account.

  • Also this. R you getting the voucher immediately though.

    | . We email you the voucher after the deal ends

    • ok, my mistake. so the postage is for the carmeradirect products, that'd make sense

  • Do these guys sell grey our Aussie stock?

  • Fundamentally, it's Groupon, so it's a scam. But even without groupon, this company smells scammy in many different ways. The web site is rushed, doesn't properly reflect what products, of stock, is available, multiple conflicting offers running at the same time. This reads like the type of site that will be happy to take your money, not so committed to fulfilling your order though. Turn and walk away, folks!

    • A week ago, I spent $4200 on lighting gear from camerasdirect. They were lovely to deal with and had the best price by far (even beating importing from overseas). And that was without this voucher.

I presume if they were going to by 'scammy', it would be on my order, not your $97 digicam.

  • -5

Canon 50mm lens is $109 on their site. Quick google and I found it for $35 so 50% off its still overpriced in my eyes.
I suggest you do a google comparison of what you want before committing to this.

    • +2

the $35 is without postage. Those sites add $70+ for postage. the cheapest I have found the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is $99 on ebay from hong kong.

      • Yeah just noticed that myself and came back to edit . You beat me though.

  • Looks like grey with local warranty, see "about us" page below. It says they started new website in September 2011, so could be why it seems rushed. They have a "bicks & mortar" store and give phone numbers etc. so no reason to suggest it's a scam, perhaps just a local store trying to start up as an online venture.
Personally I took the deal, been looking for a "nifty fifty", so $65.95 is a great price.

    About Us

Camerasdirect.com.au Pty Ltd is an Australian company that has grown from the demand for better priced camera gear. Astute consumers/photographers have always been aware that competitive pricing was available from overseas retailers on popular brands like Nikon, Sony and Canon. However they were also painfully aware that sometimes buying overseas meant no local warranty, unreliable delivery and no local support.
"Paving the way and setting the standard."

In 2002 CamerasDirect bridged this gap by being one of the first Australian importers to stock camera gear in Australia and support their customers with a local warranty. 8 years on and thanks to the initial support of local camera clubs, photographic enthusiasts and professionals alike, CamerasDirect has continued to grow into a favourite online shopping destination for Australians.

Our unprecedented approach to helping Australians take better photos by only employing passionate photographers has helped us to provide an unparralled level of service, customer support and creativity.

Our new website, launched in September 2011, marks our renewed commitment to provide the very best online retail experience to Australian shoppers. Backed by our in-house team of photographers and technology partners such as Magento and Google we are confident that we can continue to provide quality camera gear at the best prices consistently to the Australian marketplace.

Importantly we understand that a website is an extension of our physical business and our business philosophy, so it is what we do day to day in our office and warehouse that makes the biggest impact on the experience you have when you deal with CamerasDirect. From returns to warranties, dispatch and sales we all are reminded daily that our customer comes first.

We hope in dealing with us we give you a total experience that only leaves you with one option, to tell someone else about it.

  • I wonder how much stock will be available when the Groupon deal actually ends.

It sounds like you cannot use the voucher for at least another 72 hours.
How it works: "2. We email you the voucher after the deal ends"

Still a good deal I Guess.

If only we could ship from American stores.

I priced the same 4 Items from this site vs a US online store, and the price was $60 less from the US store than the Australian anyway. US stores cannot ship those products outside though.

    • voucher can be used immediately, I already used one.

      • did u pay for shipping ontop of $100 or can it be included in the $100. Like if i spend $85 on products and $15 on shipping.

        • The item I bought was $109 dollars so I had to pay extra anyway.

  • Voucher is abailable straight away after purchase

  • Bah pages and pages of out of stock. Sounds like the company is ready to fold…

  • purchased the nifty 50 :D

  • If it is grey import then not a good deal for dslr - at a glance their stuff looks like it is more expensive than some other places

  • How come my voucher code is not working?

it says invalid gift card, isnt it supposed to be online from 20th?

    • From memory (when i did it) you need to put the code in the coupon code box, not the voucher code box.

      • yes, it goes in coupon code, not the gift voucher code

        • Yeap, got it this time, ordered my Nifty Fifty! , $74.95 inc overnight delivery, lets see if it comes overnight or not!

        • did u pay for shipping ontop of $100 or can it be included in the $100. Like if i spend $85 on products and $15 on shipping.

        • shipping is not included in the voucher

so you pay shipping on top of the $100 voucher

        • thanks needed to know. It's just that i was after canon LPE5 battery pack and they had them in stock but i can find it cheaper in another store plus free delivery. I though if this deal included shipping then it would have been a better deal. Thanks.

  • Shop is actually located on the gold coast not Brisbane (Brisbane rd) this is near harbourtown if your local.
I will be checking it out today. Might get the nifty fifty and see what bags they have as I have a 60d sitting under my Christmas tree right now.

  • Check their site, before buying the voucher. More than half of the products are out of stock.

    • +1

I agree, that's what I did. However if you find what you want, put it in your shopping basket, go buy the voucher, then do checkout.

There's no wait in getting the coupon code (like those awful Kogan voucher deals!).

    • still a good deal if you can find what your after

      • -3

hardley.. compare final prices to any large retailer and u will see ur getting totally ripped (mind you jab HN arent the cheapest either but this site is terrible) BEWARE!

        • it all depends on what you're looking for. Fine me a canon 50mm f/1.8 lens for under $65.95 and i'll be all over it. I also had a look at a few speedlite flashes, and these also come in under any grey import price with the voucher.

        • yes, as I said. if you can find what your after you can get a good deal.

I bought a few gopro accessories for 50% off which is very rare to find

          quite happy with the deal.

  • any suggestions on tripods?

Need a dslr bag too but the $30 videopro looks like a better deal

  • -2

FYI: Camera's are way overpriced.. ie standard vg140 olympus selling for 87$ at every retailer (jb, HN, dicks) is $149 on this site! Farkkkk me.. SD cards are also bloddy rip off.. 32 gb/class 10 98$… msy sell these 40$ everyday! FAILLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • -1

Sorry, too much out of stock

  • not everything may be cheap on this site but there are a few good savings.

especially those with gopro's, the accessories are hard to find discounted and the coupon only has real value for items $100 or less.

  • Thanks, grabbed a Canon 50mm for my wife for Christmas. Hopefully it arrives in time.

  • I noticed they also offer 2 x $20 gift cards for $30. You should be able to use these for a an extra 33% off items over $100 (after using the groupon).

This assumes you can find something in stock you want…

    • -1

Not valid on giftcards lol. READ

      • Maybe you should READ yourself!

I was suggesting buying giftcards to cover any extra payable over the $100 value the groupon gives you.

I.E you want to buy a camera for $300, you use the groupon for $100 and giftcards for the remaining $200. It only costs you $49 for the Groupon and $150 for the gift cards, so $199 in total instead of $300.

        • +1

Only one gift card offer per person… But still gives you extra discount … $140 spend for $80 cost.

  • on a side note… they are either in trouble and need to clear stock to get some cashflow, or didn't think through parts of this promotion. I've noted a few people (myself included) buying the Canon 50mm f/1.8. Assuming they're only giving 10% of the coupon price to Groupon camerasdirect still only pocket $45 (which is unlikely, i've seen Groupon take up to 50%). This means they're selling this lens at $54, which has to be way under cost price. I have no idea of margins on other products…

    • Many groupons are a complete failure for the company involved… 50% of the money going to groupon, and I read many times 100% if the voucher is not used…

On the plus side I have never knew this shop existed, and theyare only a few KM from my house… So I guess they got a tiny bit of exposure … But can't see it being worth it.

On another not anybody read the Groupon rules if the company folds after you buy such a coupon? Any protection?

      • I've not read anything about protection… but if you read the media about group deals sites recently, there's quite a bit of movement in that area in talk of legislating things. Things like the group buy site shouldn't hand over cash until the voucher is redeemed with the end company.

I've noticed Scoopon have started doing deals where you pay $2 upfront, and the difference for the coupon when you redeem the voucher. I don't see this working long term though. For $2, if I don't redeem the voucher I couldn't care - so no incentive to go ahead with the deal. For the end company, if they decide that the deal is going badly they can probably refuse to honour it and offer a $2 refund, or significantly drop the quality of whatever it is you're entitled to. I think there has been some serious questions asked of the daily deal websites, so at least for one of my experiences, they are trying to improve customer service before people stop using them altogether.
I purchased two of those magnetic flyscreens for $20 from Scoopon. What they provided didn't match the picture of what was advertised (and could be found on other sites for as little as $9.95). I complained and was given a full refund, and got to keep the item (which I'm now using, turns out it wasn't as bad as i thought, but I wouldn't have paid $20 for it). They later had an apology and offer of refund to anyone who was unhappy on their website.

        </end of life story>

  • anyone received an email notification from the company after ordering?
I bought a 50mm lens too. Got the email from groupon but nothing from camera direct

    • you have a "My Account" section on the camerasdirect website, where you can see your order. i only know this because I had the same concern!

Perhaps a good idea to take a screen print… just in case, though now I look at it, I see my order status has changed to "order finalized".

  • +1

Just went and picked my 50mm lens order up. Shop is legit and looks like they have a few in stock. The invoice says I paid $9 with a discount of $100.
    No mention of groupons.

  • Looks like i cannot add item to cart after logged in as a user …

    • are you adding from here?

      works fine for me

just go back from the error page and its in your cart

      • I logged out and can place order successfully :D

  • Thanks a lot.
    I've managed to get last Tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 for Pentax for effectively $389.00 + $12.95 - $60 = $342.
    It is > $450 elsewhere.
If it is gonna be brand new and operational I will be absolutely happy.

    • how do you get -$60 ?

      • 2 x $20 gift cards for $30 from www.camerasdirect.com.au + a $100 voucher for $49.

        • you could use the gift cards with the $100 voucher?

  • called them up to ask when they will have stock of GoPro HD HERO2 Professional Motorsport Edition and cause i was considering buying the groupon coupon to buy it if it comes back in stock soon.

They said it was coming back in stock in mid Jan but the groupon coupon is only valid for the first 100 which have already been redeemed around midday already….

This is really weird cause according to groupon they've only sold 82 atm…. someone's lying…

    • if your going to buy gopro, I reckon you should buy it from hdsports (http://www.hdsports.com.au/)
free shipping + 16gb sd card,

and use the groupon to buy some accessories.

      • free 16gb sd card with the outdoor edition only i think…. :(
edit: opps just read carefully "every camera purchase"

  • nah its every camera

    on the home catalog page:

We won't be beaten on deals. FREE SHIPPING + 16GB SD card with every camera!

i got the motorsport and got the 16gb

  • Looks like they did shipped it (50mm) using overnight shipping, i just received a tracking number from fastway.

so its a very much legit deal, given that you got the item in stock.

    • Just put my order in for the 50mm with overnight delivery, so hopefully everything is confirmed in the morning.

  • Lens arrived. Great service. Paid for standard shipping, received it next day. Packed very well.

    • good stuff. What state are you in?
I hope to get mine by tomorrow.
Got the fastway email, says in transit to Sydney from G-Coast

      • I'm in Victoria.

  • ordered midnight on monday
dispatched tuesday and its arrived today in sydney by fastway

    great deal

  • Bought the coupon and got a Nikon 50mm 1.8G as it was advertised as in stock. As it turns out, it wasn't in stock and I have to wait for a new shipment of stock. I can't wait for it as I have to go overseas soon. Also won't be able to get just a refund because then I would have wasted $49 on the Groupon Voucher.

    Just stupid. Neg from me.

    • did you call them? as theyre customer service was quite helpful

    • you willing to part with your voucher for $40?

  • Well its a negative from me - Bought a Lowepro Versapack and got an email later in the day saying - sorry sold out, but we should have stock today.

Well, just checked the my account on the website and sure enough, still no stock! No comms to let me know whats going on, doubtful I'll get it for Christmas day now.

Also, checking the site, it says it still in stock: http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/lowepro-versapack-200-aw-gre…

Isn't this bait and switch advertising? Dodgy.

    • More likely bad inventory system / bad inventory management than a bait and switch. They're not the first company to list something as in stock, then not be able to fulfil the order, and they won't be the last. Amazon have done it to me before and do it regularly with "expected shipping dates".

  • Ordered Canon 50mm 1.8 late Wednesday arvo, was delivered 7:30am Thursday morning (normal delivery $6.95 to NSW). Great deal, great service!!

  • received my order this morning.
    Thanks. Great.

I feel for those who missed out getting what they wanted because of stock issues, but I think as braddsey said , they do not look like a big company and their inventory system probably did not update or cope well.
    Other companies do it too.
I don't think there is "bait and switch" or dodginess involved.
Lukee20 - did you choose overnight option or 3-7 day option? Have you tried contacting them. They do have a phone number (unlike scoopon etc)

    • I chose the overnight express option…. I haven't tried calling yet

      • yea, if that's the case, I would be pissed off a bit too. I think if you talk to them, they may give you some extra credit or freebies or something.
I know its a hassle, but sometimes this happens

  • received my 2nd order today

one of items was out of stock and they informed me when it was coming in and would be dispatched asap.

    it came asap by courier.

    awesome deal, great service,

  • I just picked up a outdoor edition plus the handlebar mount yesterday from HDSports ( http://www.hdsports.com.au ) and still got their deal. Good price for a local provider, well, pretty good for what I've seen anyway.
