Yes, it connects to the water inlet inside the cistern. Needs a hole drilled on the side for the hose too.

      • Thanks. Is it similar to how I've described in my comment above?

Do you have answers to my questions there?

  • An alternative with good reviews on Amazon for $51 delivered: Achiotely Handheld Bidet Toilet Sprayer

No need for this as long as the wife has a water flosser.

    • 😂

  • It is recommended in islam to was the bum with water after you poop. Its more cleaner and hygienic. Therefore, bidet sprays are like gem to muslims. You might have noticed, muslims take a bottle of water in the public toilets if no bidets are available to clean their bum after poop.

That would have to be even bigger mess, than just using toilet paper.

    • They wash anus with left hand and eat with bare right hand

    • I've noticed communal Mt Franklin bottles in some bathrooms. I imagine it'd be splashed by fecal water and grabbed by poop encrusted hands countless times.

Think about suitability for your situation.

"But mummy, you sprayed me with the hose".
I saw one installed in holiday accommodation once. Very off-putting. I knew precisely where it had been!

  • Isn’t it better to spend a bit more for the one in Bunnings with Watermark and non-return valve built-in?

  • How does it work with tap water ? Would not it be too cold in Melbourne weather ?

    • Yes you would feel the heated during summer and cold water during winters, but it is quite negligible

  • The pipe on these explode. You've been warned.

    • Install a small stopcock on the T-joint you use to connect it. Turn on the stopcock (a tiny bit) then use the spray head. The first time I installed one I couldn't find the stopcock I'd bought and installed it without one whilst I nipped to Bunnings to get another one (they're cheap). Came back an hour later and the hose had a massive bulge in one section. I was lucky my "it'll do for now" approach hadn't resulted in major damage.

        Haha, he said stopcock

For anyone who missed out and looking to buy, buy an expensive, good quality one. Cheaper ones are terrible quality and I can guarantee, you will never go back from using a bidet so it’s worth the investment.

    • any links for alternative good ones?

      • Not sure to be honest. I saw Methven had one for sale in Bunnings that came with a lifetime warranty. Don’t know if it’s any good but might be worth check out.

  • The head on this one is too long.

    • That's what she said.

  • Coming from an Asian country I have been using these for almost 20 years and I find them better (faster, stronger flow, lower maintenance) than bidet toilet seats. The only feature I like on bidet seats is the heated ring, great in winter or at night.

To properly enjoy these, I would recommend installing a tampering valve, a pressure reduction valve and a non return valve(which is commonly integrated in the tampering valve). If you have multiple toilets, it is worthwhile to invest a dedicated bidet pipe so you can have warm bidet water all year round. It can be a little costly considering you cant legally DIY plumbing in Australia but definitely worth it.

Can you point me to everything i need to have this done properly, please?

  • Do I need to hire a plumber to install this product?

These can't be legally installed in Australia without a RPZD valve.

Interesting. Mine has a simple backflow prevention valve but it's not even close to what an RPZD looks like. From what I've just read it seems the risk that an RPZD prevents, in this case, is if the head of the hose is somehow left submerged in the toilet water, and then something happens to cause the water pressure to drop like a burst main or a fire hydrant being used so the water is sucked back through. It seems pretty remote, but I guess if you had kids who were messing around it's slightly more possible. I guess I'll keep running my illegal bum gun and hope the plumbing police never catch up with me.

    • Link to such a valve so we can DIY it properly then

    • RPZD sales are primarily site based rather than outlet based. You'll get multiple ones in places like hospitals or care homes but in a domestic setting if there is one it'll be for the entire house. They're only required if the hazard is judged to be high and these houses aren't generally regarded as high risk.

Evidently bidet's are considered high risk. From the reading i was doing last night even a hand held shower should have a short enough hose, or a barrier in between, that is can't reach the toilet. It seems wildly overkill to me, but I guess over a long enough timeline and with enough installs 1 in a million events happen enough that it's legislated.

  • Great fine OP! I bought 3 of these when it was $40

  • Anyone in NSW figured out the legality of installing one of these? I've had a plumber refuse to discuss bidets unless we start at installing high hazard reduced pressure zones. I can't get a definitive answer and don't want to risk anyone's drinking water supply. Any guidance appreciated.

  • OMG! this is a shit storm!

  • Almost worth it. Except i dont like the idea of blasting my hole with ice-cold water during winter.

    • I’d recommend a bidet seat for that. Water and seat are heated. I get a shock now every time I use another toilet coz I’m so used to my heated seat and warm bidet spray.
