The best part is that it's silicon, it won't hurt much when they hit you with it.

Thank you. I always want this for my teflon pan.

  • How hot is 220c? can these be used for stirfrying?

    • Cooktops can max out at over 300 degrees Celsius

    • +1

When you're heating a pan for stir frying, it'll go past 250C. If there's a load of food cooking in it, it'll be lower. How much lower I have no idea.

    • +2

I wouldn't, unless you're big on BPA stirfry

  • +8

Got 4 for no reason at all

Ok I'll be the one to say it… These things will leach microplastics into your food. You'll be eating endocrine disruptors that wreak havoc on your hormones. In 20 years time we'll be aghast that we used to cook with this stuff.

When they say it can withstand up to 220 degrees, that just means it won't melt at that temp. It says nothing about the BPAs and other harmful microplastics that are without question entering your body every time you cook with these things.

Get rid of the non-stick pan while you're at it too.

    • +6

And I'll be the first to respond to your ignorant comment

Silicone is generally considered safer than plastic due to its high chemical resistance and lack of leaching harmful chemicals like BPA. It's often used in food, beverage, and medical applications for its safety.

      • -5

Remind me 1 Jan 2040. This stuff is not safe and you're doing yourself and others who read your comments a disservice by defending this cheap junk.

        • -1

So rather than about your were wrong about microphysics and PBA (neither are coming from this) you attack the person that corrected you?

Inability to admit one is wrong is a really poor character trait.

          • -1

@Duff5000: All the best with it friend. Are you familiar with siloxanes?

            • @A-H: Yes, I am… That's not what you were originally complaining about though was it?

Still having trouble admitting you were wrong hey?

              • -1

@Duff5000: I'm trying to help people and you're stuck picking fights with strangers. Are you sure you're the good guy? Goodnight

                • @A-H:

I'm trying to help people and you're stuck picking fights with strangers

Posting misinformation then having a go at the user that corrected you? Yeah man, so helpful.

Are you sure you're the good guy?

Unlike you i never claimed to be. I at least have no problem admitting if i am wrong about something.

You could have just said "Good call, i thought it was plastic. Silicon could potentially have issues, look up siloxanes" Instead you doubled down and gave some fake remind me bot BS.

                  anyway…..

                  • @Duff5000: I think the most important message @A-H is trying to spread is that - no matter how wrong you are, you should just keep commenting.

    • +2

Can't get microplastics from silicone, it's not a plastic, and is incredibly stable, and non-reactive, especially compared to plastic.

If you don't know that, you should be careful what other information that you're being fed that you're following without properly understanding.

      • -1

Use this junk at your peril. Research siloxanes and heat

  • too late for this one… richmond closest store with stock

    • Yep I'm going to have to travel to pick up the last 10 in metro Adelaide

  • +1

I might get downvoted, but these are not safe.
I had to replace everything I had with wooden ones instead which are much safer.
Look up the Maple wood from KitchenAid, it's 45% off here on eBay

    • If you're going to make a statment like that might want to provide your reasoning.

        • +1

Her comment is about plastic spatulas breaking up and ending up in the food you eat. OK. She mentioned silicone rubber in passing. Anecdotally, I've never seen a silicone utensil crack or break up like plastic ones do. Silicone's melting point is well above what you're going to find when you're cooking.

Unsure what your point is here.

          • -1

@bienvenu: I have observed them break up (it's not just heat that does it…), so single point observation is clearly not the best proof, especially compared to a career toxicologist.

          • @bienvenu: The point is using bamboo or wood spatulas instead.

    • What is unsafe about a spoon? Choke hazard when doing the nasty?

I prefer wooden, but use plastic and silicone and I feel very safe.

      • +3

watch this video if you have time, I've shared the exact time they discuss utensils but if you have time watch all of it.

        • Can't be arsed watching YT for what is probably some conspiracy rant.
Why not say in one or two sentence what you believe is wrong with the product.

          • +2

@BBF: The plastic breaking down or the silicon spatula breaking down in the heat of cooking is the problem. The heat is the problem. The plastic then goes into the food. The plastic then gets into your bloodstream and trapped in your brain. Happy for someone else to do a TLDR?

            • -1

@marcozmitch: Would my tinfoil hat save me? Or is tinfoil ( aluminum foil ) also dangerous?

That sounds like a load of codswallop. Silicone breaking down while stirring something around 100C, given it can handle 260C…..

Thanks for the laugh guys. It's been a weird week.

              • +1

                @BBF: Aluminium causes Alzheimer's

      • +2

The heat causes the spoon to break down over time.

    • +1

You should post that as a bargain

    • +4

I have no issues with getting downvoted, which is what I expected anyway. But thought I would share the message with people here. It's up to you what you want to go for, no one can force you. But for an item that lasts you probably years, I don't mind paying $10 extra and choose a safer option.
      Be safe everyone

Thank you. I subscribe to this channel, but I have not seen this. This is a public service from you. It is hard as I LOVE plastic.

      • I am very pro-fluoride though. Happy to be shown proper science journal that shows otherwise.
