I did some price comparison and Reid has very good value, especially if you're looking for a ladies vintage bikes or a basic mountain bike.

If you select 'Collect in store,' you save a further $33 because you don't have to buy the assembly kit and you also save the $20 on postage. Plus then you don't have to assemble the bike yourself.

The staff in the Sydney store were extremely helpful but also not pushy so you can go in store if you want to try before you buy.

  You mean, "they're cheaper than most big bike brands."

  That's for a reason. The bikes tend to be heavier, the components (like gears) are lower quality, and the wheels and tyres are pretty basic. On the other hand thieves will tend to ignore them so that's something.

  Go ahead and get one but you're often better off spending the same money or an extra hundred or two on a 1-year-old used bike by Merida or Giant or something.

    For a beginner looking to buy a basic mountain bike or vintage bike, they compare well to the other bike shops in my area. Each to their own :)

      They may compare well on price but not on quality.

      Weight is a massive issue. For a beginner, a heavier, less comfortable bike will be harder to ride and mean that they find riding harder than they need to… and they're less likely to continue riding. That's money wasted. A heavy frame, and wheels that take lots of effort to spin up (and may easily buckle when they hit a pot hole) are the opposite of what a beginner needs.

  My last two bikes have been Reids. I describe them as my "minimum viable bicycles". I have a several generation old City 1.0 in black with fenders and rim brakes that I paid about $480 on discount about 6 years ago now. I have sunk about that in to replacement parts, but it gets ridden daily-ish, used for towing a trailer, with kids (previously) or shopping (more recently). I also bought a Vice 1.0 on discount in October 2019. Should paid an extra $200 to get hydrolic discs, 1x chainset and tubeless ready… Like I say, minimum viable bikes

  Edit: I forgot the most important part! The ladies vintage 3sp hub gear bike we bought was garbage. You could grab the steering neck and the seat and it would wibble, wobble along the frame. Awful!

  Reid is value, they're not terrible..but Giant is better, just the look and feel of it already, but at the end of the day, the weight of the rider matters more than the weight of the bike, just saying..

  I don't see the Free Light, Lock and Pump offer on the website, where did you see that? I only see $20 off when applying the coupon.
