What are you studying at uni?
I've only eaten Indomie Mi Goreng. Can anyone give a run down on the differences in the dry noodles across what is available in supermarkets? I assumed that just the flavourings were different. Do any have different noodles. I'm wondering if some are thicker and meatier.
Pro tip. Buy the Indomie Mie Goreng from asian grocers, etc which doesn't have the English translation. It's the OG version with full flavor and tastes way better.
And full of 味精 Weijing aka MSG 😬
@[Deactivated]: MSG is the one that makes noodles yummy.
@RSmith: Uncle Roger agrees.
@[Deactivated]: MSG is (profanity) delicious.
@[Deactivated]: it's a myth that MSG is any worse for your health than the same amount of sodium. The only danger is that MSG'ed food tastes better, so you eat more and thus, gain extra, unnecessary calories.
@sangohan: More is more.
@[Deactivated]: breast milk, Parmesan cheese, tomatoes etc have MSG, that's what makes them tasty
@[Deactivated]: 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 😬 oh no!!!
yes the noodles advertised here, as with the different flavours, are much thicker and firmer than Mi Goren noodles. As to flavour I find these to be a little too spicy but adding ingredients or slightly reducing the amount of powder from the flavour sachet can help
I've tried this before, its very spicy but lacks flavour
I will not buy again.
Out of curiosity, what do you consider an instant noodle with flavour if you think this lacks it?
I bought this one here and its much better
https://shop.coles.com.au/a/national/product/nissin-ramen-ky…
ahhh I heard that one has a tonne of weak sauce in it
Most Nissin sold in Aus are made in SE Asia and taste considerably worse than their Japanese made counterparts unfortunately. Japanese Nissin curry noodles are to die for.
@Could Be Better: I agree, the noddle itself is not as good as the Sim
@helloeatty: I enjoy noddle.
@helloeatty: Sim?
These are horrible, absolutely no taste whatsoever. They taste like boiled cardboard with half a teaspoon of salt.
For the weak and uninitiated.dam. so it's cheaper to buy nissin cup noodles when they're on discount for around ~$0.80.
I'd say this is the worst flavour of of the 3 options (still nice enough though). I'd rate the hakataya first, then the shoyu.
not spicy to me
Add less bleach to your noodle soups
@payton: I've become so numb
@capslock janitor: I can't feel you there
@Scrooge McDuck: Become so tired, So much more aware
Have you tried the spicy Korean Samyang noodles? These: https://www.amazon.com/Korean-Samyang-Chicken-Challenge-Bokk…
@eek: havent tried that stew-type specifically but
I really enjoy the Samyang black packs;
and the red2x packs were uncomfy for me recently@eek: I tried them about a year ago and they were hot, but not overwhelmingly so.
I haven't been game to try the 2.5x ones tho..
@ankor: is that stew pack same as black packs?
do you mean 2X ?@capslock janitor: I only just glanced at them and didn't examine them closely.. maybe 2x, but I thought I read 2.5x. Not sure if it's a stew pack either.
I've been pretty keen to try hot stuff these days.
The weird thing is that I find it quite a disaster to eat but once I get over the initial burn, I don't mind it afterwards.
@ankor: yeah i heard they had 2.5x, 3x, 4x?but some said 4x is less spicy than 2/3 idk even know anymore lol
@capslock janitor: https://youtu.be/HwVALvfwciE
Is this you?! :P
@capslock janitor: HAHAHAHA yes the black 2x ones. I've tried one and managed to finish it, but won't be eating another one ever again. Not even much flavour to it. It's all covered by the endless and deep burning.
Add cheese before eat if you find that too spicy for you.
I suggest some milk. like 50ml of milk makes it less spicy and taste quite nice!
Do you lap it up from a saucer?
Korean like to add cheese :)
oh man.. you're cooking it wrong if you think this lacks flavour
hands down one of the best
ok, how is it supposed to be cooked?
i assume you either added too much water / didn't add egg
but quick google: https://youtu.be/8krT-dli1-A
@blehgg: I did not add egg but I added pretty much the same amount of water as that video
Either way, I'm not a spicy fan so I'll pass this one
@Homr: Soak noodle in hot water. Heat pan, fry garlic and onion, add noodles and spices. Add water how much you want, put ut in bowl, add chese slices 3, boiled egg. Best combo
@sagrgar: omg this triggered my shin ramyun soul so much i had to reply
'the proper korean way'
550ml of water (most important part of the entire process), 500ml if you want stronger taste
bring to boil and add powder and flakes
in this order, add noodles, an egg (do not pop), green onion cut in 3 - 5cm
close lid and cook until 'al dente', if noodles are cooked until mushy then big fail
enjoy with kimchi, or a pickled side dish (again also important)
@visitor123: I don't add the egg until there is only about 75 seconds to go, otherwise the yolk cooks through.
add some chinese cabbage, bokchoy
I tried both of them
This Nong Shim Shin Ramyun 5 Pack $4 @ Woolworths is spicy, it has punchy flavour but somehow tasted bland.
The Nissin Ramen Kyushu Black Noodle @ Coles
not as spicy, you have to cook it for longer for the noodle to absorb the flavour in. The flavour is weaker (even instead of punchy) but the noodle is tastier.the powder is tear gas in a bag
you don't have to pour it all inChallenge accepted!
These are pretty lame. You should try the samyang hot chicken noodles.
Ooh. Sounds yum. Should be right to smoke it you reckon?
You need to cook it and add like veggies, eggs and cheese. Just don’t put all the powder in if it’s too spicy for you.
I only add egg to mine. Next time try adding your egg after you crack it in a separate bowl/cup and whisking the white and yolk together. Maybe 15-20 seconds before you would take it off from the stove.
It's now my go to when cooking ramyun. I don't just crack the whole egg in to the ramyun now.
Spicy yes, Hot No.
I love these noodles.
Each time I eat this, I think of Korea. Miss it dearly!
Hey guys, make sure u buy in supermarket rather than Chinese grocery, some of them are "made in China", not Korea.
Didn’t know this thanks
correct, made in korea ones have a clear label saying so on the 5-pack packaging.
I can 100% sure made in China is not as good as Korea and even the color is different
Each time I eat this, I think of Korea
Sorry, not even close to fresh noodles in Korea.
What fresh noodle you talking about?
There aren't any ramyun category fresh noodles in Korea.
Ramyuns are not fresh stuff, they are always instant.
and Korean eat lots of instant noodles, so nothing wrong with dealbot's comment.Don't respond to the troll they only make these remarks to draw people into responding.
What fresh noodle you talking about?
Try some Japchae.
@jv: Different thing.
@jv: Japchae is entirely different to instant noodles.
@ozbargainer88: I specifically said "fresh" noodles.
@jv: Japchae is from DRIED starch noodle, not fresh again.
Some korean-chinese dishes like jajangmyun, jjampong or Kalguksu can be fresh, but Japchae can be made fresh from dried noodles.Japchae is from DRIED starch noodle, not fresh again.
Pretty sure the restaurants weren't making from packets.
@jv: Japchae noodles are dried ones, just like pasta…well at least you can find fresh pasta, but not Japchae.
I haven't seen FRESH JAPCHAE noodle in my life. I lived in Korea 22 years.Sure they are not making from packets, seasonings & additional ingredients will be prepared from restaurants, but noodles are from packet :-)
You can even make it yourself. See below link if you like Japchae.

North Korea?
He did say "dearly" … Refering to the Dear Leader?
Bought this a while back and didn't enjoy it at all…
Way too spicy and lacking flavour.
Makes me cry it's that hot. Nissin Tokyo shoyu all the way!
Only if you knew that "Shin" in the name means hot/spicy
I didn't know that…
I enjoy spicy, but this is too spicy to enjoy.
maybe try buldak then
maybe try buldak then
I tried many of the foods in Korea, except for maybe boshintang…
One of my favourites was Budae Jjigae. That's how I got used to SPAM.
Waiting for $3
Put a sign up outside the door to a Woolies near you.
Doing that is no guarantee that it will be available for $3
Not guaranteed, just very likely.
Used to jump on these deals, but noticed the Hanaro Marts in Brisbane often has these on sale at 2 for $5.99.
If you live in Sydney - There is an asian grocery store just side of World Square near ICG chicken that sells this for 3.74 all year long
Costco sells this too in a box of 20, around $15.50 a box.
“ Then you have to experience Shin Ramyun – soft and chewy noodles in a spicy broth, ready to eat in just 5 minutes.”
Fixed the description for you.
If anyone wants to level up from Shin Ramyun, some other Korean instant ramens that I enjoy/can recommend (will probably have to scourer Asian grocery stores for these though):
Shin Ramyun Black - basically the "gourmet" version of Shin Ramyun with a better broth and extra garnishes (actual dried beef, mushrooms etc)
Neoguri - Seafood flavour, but what makes me keep coming back are the noodles; think udon but not as thick.
Kkokkomyun - One of go-to's when I was living in Korea; a smooth chicken-based broth that has a nice kick of jalapeno to it.
Namja Ramyun - Just a well-rounded instant ramenAre they all have similar or stronger spice level than this one ? If yes, can you please recommend some which are non spicy or milder ?
Try these.

I think with korean ramyun you would need to expect a certain level of spicyness. The An Sung Tang Myun (photo) is a bit less spicier than the Shin Ramyun.
It also helps if you add egg in your ramyun. Crack your add in a cup/small bowl and mix the white and yolk together. Once the noodles are nearly cooked, pour the egg mixture in to your pot. Cook for like 10-15 seconds and they should be cooked.
This is my go-to when cooking ramyun at home. It also helps if you have kimchi available as ramyun is best accompanied by kimchi.
You could try Jin Ramen (mild), very similar flavour to Shin Ramyun but less spicy. Actually these days Shin Ramyun has lost popularity amongst Koreans, a lot of Koreans prefer Jin Ramen instead.
the Neoguri ('mild Seafood flavour') is not very spicy compared to this variety
Shin Ramen Light is to die for!!
No noodle is worth dying for.
Samyang how chicken big bowls are half price too
