Samsung Galaxy S II on Virgin Mobile for $26.25 on a 24 Month Plan

530

Hey guys

Just spotted this deal online at virgin. They have reduced the handset repayment of the Galaxy S2 from $15 per month to $1 on the $29 fair go plan. This plan includes $190 credit and 250MB worth of data.

When you buy online you get 3 months free. So $29 + $1 handset repayments over 24 months = $720.

With 3 month free $30*3months = $90.

This brings the cost down to $630. Which is $26.25 per month.

Seems like a pretty awesome deal if you like the virgin/optus network.

Expires on 24th of December.

  • Jolly good deal!

  • cheaper than vodafone but international expensive than vodafone
since when virginmobile pulled out of MCB?

  • +1

    Sorry the 3 months free comes to $29 x 3 = $87

    So it's $633 total. Which is $26.375pm :p

    With 3 month free $30*3months = $90

    • corrected! handset payment not included

  • Does anyone know if the phone would be locked to Virgin?

    • Virgin handsets are usually unlocked

      • +1

    • Yeah virgin phones are unlocked

Looks like they saw Voda's promotion and decided to retaliate.

    • Exactly!

  • how to get the 3month free? Just Cannot see it on that webpage.

    Edit:Saw it now…

  • Very good deal, does anyone know if I can get sweeteners for existing customer? I'm with Virgin

    • Yes, you should be able to. I have done that in the past - just ring them up and ask them to match it. They might package it a bit diffently, eg instead of 3mths free, you get 6mths with 50% off.

Of course you need to be at the end of your current plan, otherwise there will be break costs.

      • I meant I would like to add another plan to my current plan, not gonna sign a new contract and cancel the old one. Thanks

      • I am on my 18th month of the contract, and just called up virgin but the upgrade team said that i had to finish my whole contract before i could go on to the next one, or pay my phone off(almost the same price as the plan itself)!!! I think Vodafone allows customers to restart a new plan from the 20th month!!!does virgin do the same? u guys have any suggesstions!! i really need this phone (at this price)…

        • Rang them and organised the same thing. I only had a month left so I told them if they couldn't help I could just get the new phone and plan and port the number when my existing plan ran out. They offered me either cancel my payout amount $28.50 or the 3 months free access. I took the 3 months and don't need to worry about porting. I should have a new s2 next week

If only it was a 12 month deal, I am not going to get hooked into a 24mth contrat when SGS2 is close to being superceded.

    • Superceded? At least it's getting Ice Cream Sandwich officially, so it's not that superceded.

There's no other phone with a 1.2ghz dual core CPU going at a price this low.

    • The rumours are currently slating the S3 for a mid 2012 release. So locally we probably wouldn't see it till Q3 2012.

The S2 is just about the fastest phone on the market that you can buy right now, so if you're worried about tech getting superceded then I guess you won't be buying anything for a good 6-9 months.

Virgin phones comes locked but they will unlock for free if you call them up.

Good price but wouldn't recommend this plan or the service.

I'm currently with Virgin on the Fairgo plan for a few months now. Had so many issues on billing, data etc, and they could not fix any problem i had except saying sorry. If you want to sign up this plan, here's a few things you might need to know:

    1. This cap includes 1300 numbers however this does not include the virgin customer service number, so add 25c on top to your cap every time you call them from your mobile.
    2. Be very careful about the data reset date. Mine is saying 13th every month but it actually got reset on 14th, contacted them about this issue but got told yes your data is reset on 14th, they didnt even bother to check my bill which says billing period start on 13th.
    3. if you are given credit when you join, be very careful for the month when you about to use up the credit. For me I didn't get my bill for that month also my call/data usage wasn't get reset, called them a week after the new billing period and was told i had to wait a few days for the bill to be generated, called again and again until almost end of the new billing period, finally was told i wouldnt have a bill because my last bill was under $10 so by default there wouldnt be a bill invoiced until the coming month, and they cannot even tell me how much phone calls or data i used that month but even there was one bill for those two months, the cap was still calculated seperately. I ended up with data exceed usage for $30+ for the second month on that bill, even it was waved but had to call them so many times to settle it.
    4. If you sign up the fair go plan, you cannot change to other plans i.e. Topless, with no penalty. I tried to change to another same monthly cost plan, the guy was happy to do it over the phone but when i asked if i need to pay extra he said may or may not…then was told by another team i would have to pay over $300 to change the plan.

If i were getting the SG2 i would buy it outright then get one of those prepaid plans from tpg or lc.

"If i were getting the SG2 i would buy it outright then get one of those prepaid plans from tpg or lc."

You're not going to get it at this price then.

      Hence the "bargain" thing.

      • For me i'm very likely to use more than 250mb using an android phone, i some time can use almost 100mb a day and virgin can have 48hour delay for updating the data usage in my account, so i could be paying a lot on data exceed usage and it wiuldnt be bargain for me. Yes use some data counter apps could help but i'd rather get a large data package.
Also the prepaid plans get updated so often even some $10-$11 plan is way much better than this $29 Fair Go now and it may get cheaper.
Allphones said they will honour the aad $200 deal later so i may get a ss2 for less than $400 and that'll be a real bargain for me ;)

        • +1

You don't take advantage of WiFi? I have actually having trouble finishing my 250mb per month with Virgin! I do usual stuff such as email, weather updates, occasionally youtube if bored at work, some online games, G+ and other stuff… I thought that is quite an intense usage already and I barely use like avg 15mb a day!

But guess because I also use WiFi so I can save a bit bandwidth?

        • +1

That is very surprising. I would consider myself a pretty heavy user and never go over 250mb on my optus plan. I do not use youtube though, that is where your data is burnt up.

        • +1

Well for you, a bargain on a 250MB-planned phone isn't very interesting, just like how bargains on x-station-box games aren't very interesting to me. Each to their own.

I never go anywhere near using half of my 200MB allowance. Granted I might use a bit more data when my S2 arrives than I currently use on my PoS Huawei Ideos, but for me, this is a good deal.

This contract is very similar to what I'm currently paying $10/month for at TPG. So I'll be effectively paying $20/month extra to get the S2. 24 - 3 = 21 months of that, my phone is costing $420. Win.

You can add Mobile Data to your plan for as little as an additional $5pm for an extra 500mb. See here for more options http://www.virginmobile.com.au/mobile-data-plans/

      Thanks for posting your story,
Always good to hear from someone who has first hand experience of the service.

  • Good advice - also watch for that excess data charges. Virgin is charges around $50/ 100Mb (or $500/Gb) if you exceed your allowance so with a Galaxy S2 you'd wanna be a light browser or mostly have Wi-Fi access.

    Great price tho :)

    • +1

Excess data is charged at $2 per mb which is about $2000 a gb.

      • +1

This Virgin sure know how to fk the customers

      • They charged me 600…

    • Is there a cap for excess data usage though?
For LC when I went over I was capped at $20 (which was fine by me since it was an emergency).

  • Awesome deal. Virgin, for all its crappiness, does occasionally come out with some incredible deals.

  • there is no white :(

    says out of stock

    • Vodafone have the white ones, if interested,
      Just ordered one yesterday

  • OP, could you please put the total $630 in the title?

I've had the SGS2 with Virgin since it's launch. Cannot complain. The phone came with 100% stock Android aka no carrier crapware on it.

    • +1

I'd say it's 70% stock Android. The other 30% is Touchwiz

  • I was with them, rang them to see if they would match the voda deal, said NO, So I switched, did it this morning..

  • +3

but vodafone is offer 29 cap for 24 months…total is 696… use code "100DEC" u save $100 so the final price should be 596…still beat Virgin….

  • -4

    100 for first month only…

    • +1

who told you this? I think the voda rep cleared it out that it is till the time credit is expired.
voda one is still the cheapest.

  • yes i agree voda is still cheaper

    • +3

But you should consider blackspots and poor coverage

  • -6

I do not understand why people get so caugh up with these kind of deal. Virgin or Voda these plan are not enough for a normal usage and the out of allowance price is so high as someone already explained. If you look at a outright S2 and the TPG medium plan it cost 500 + (15*24)=860. that is 35.80 a month with acceptable allowance. To get that on other network, and lets include all the special offer, you can not get a plan with the same allowance for less than $42. And TPG, Virgin and Voda all suffer from poor network performance so network quality does not play a role here. I just dont see a point going on a plan. And remember the TPG + Outright option do not have contract. That is a big plus.

I also do not get what is the fusse about S2 and Galaxy Nexus, I spend half an hour in a T shop assumeing I am the first day using that phone and want to find easy is the phone to use. Both shocking, limited and ugly buildin widgets, difficult to use layout…… just to name a few complains. I still think HTC's interface rocks (yes I am a HTC fans). Using someone's review opinion on the HTC Flyer, I can just pick up a HTC device and start working on daily stuff in seconds. Oh not to mention the joy of showing off to iphone people how ugly their interface is.

    • +3

And why are some people so naive and incoherent

  • Vodafone is cheaper, $29 x 24 months - $100 credit = $596 as I just ordered on Thur, though call and data credit is slightly lower. The issue is that Vodafone delivers goods desperately slow.

    • and they have the s2 in white :)

  • I think I still am happy with the deal I got from Voda - $49+5 on a 12 month contract for Samsung Galaxy S2! I pretty much pay the same amount plus I will get a new phone for next X'mas! Yey!!!

  • Hi Guys,
does Virgin Mobile allow the use of VOIP with included data? I have seen they have blocked SIP ports or something few years back, no idea of the current status though.

I believe Voda allows VOIP on their free quota isnt it?

  • I don't know if they still offer it, but if you transfer your old number from a different provider to a new Virgin phone plan, they use to give an extra $100 off ($10/month for 10 months).

  • Loving this deal. Yet another great deal from urbanstylz. Keep it up

  • my friend ordered this yesterday and it arrived at work today. also, s.thg they don't tell you with the three months free - it's not consecutive. The 3 months are spaced out e.g jan, june, december (can't remember exact months but it's like one month free every six months).

    • It's in the fine print, You will receive 3 months access fee applied as credits to your 1st, 5th & 9th bills respectively.

  • oh and if you break the contract you have to pay an exit fee of like $200 on top of the rest of the contract. so you're pretty much stuck with this for 24 months?!

    • +2

its called a contract for a reason.

  • You only pay the extra $250 on top of the contract if you break it within the first 6 months.
