Good spec - up to 64Gb RAM, nice change from soldered RAM. 4 USBs.

  • Interested but no backlit keyboard. Got used to having that now.

Edit; the review says there is keyboard backlighting and the specs say no. Shopingexpress site not helpful.

Can anyone say for sure if keyboard is backlit or not?

    • The L series come with either, possibly the only way to know for sure is ask the seller?

Edit: spec posted by OP says non-backlit, so I'd assume that's the case.

Yeah, it's a bummer. No idea why they don't just put them in everything these days, considering it's typically a $30 upgrade when you customise one yourself.

I had a quick look and you do seem to be able to buy backlit L15 keyboards for cheap, and upgrading Thinkpads is typically pretty easy, if you were that keen. Would void the warranty though.

      • Yes, a deal breaker for me. Could DIY upgrade but losing the warranty isn't worth it IMO.

I feel you. My currently daily driver is actually an X220, from back in the days when instead of backlit keyboards they gave you the ThinkLight. It's honestly awesome — if they can't give us backlit boards, I wish they'd still give us these, haha.

          • @crungle: A handy little light. Are they plug in and still available anywhere?

Edit; I see now, built in. Too many good ideas get left behind in the race for more profit, or just more 'something'. :-)

            • @JH100: Yep, just a nifty little downward-angled LED to illuminate the keyboard at night. Useful to examine things under too! I also hear that because of the difference in manufacturing, the backlit keyboards aren't as satisfying to use as the non-backlit, and given how iconic the Thinkpad keyboards are you'd think an alternate illumination method that doesn't compromise on that would be a no brainer. At least they haven't abandoned the TrackPoint yet!

At any rate, the laptop quest continues.

      • hi, I wish to buy a 15" Laptop with i5 10 Gen (or i7) and 16GB RAM (which can be upgraded), 512GB SSD. If possible under $1500. Can you please suggest me.

Dell 7506 2 in 1, touchscreen, Thunderbolt 4, 11th gen 1135g7 with 12GB ram (upgradable), 512 SSD, can be purchased for about ~$1200 with discount code LOVEKEANU.

@tlazolli: Thanks Tlazolli. I was now tempted with Inspiron 15 7506 2-in-1 Laptop, which is at $1708.
And with the discount it is coming out to be $1,589.37.
Will the price difference of $362.71 (i5/12GB) v/s (i7/16GB) justifiable?
Please pardon my ignorance as I have no clue for Laptops, the lat time i Bought an hp laptop which is super slow.

And can this i7 laptop's RAM can be upgraded to 32 GB later on and 512GB SSD to 1TB SSD later on?

  • Carp screen, sadly

According to the notebookcheck review, as far as 250nit screens go, this one is pretty good. Once again though Lenovo making strange decisions. It's a portable business laptop — make it suitable for the varied lighting conditions that audience will undoubtedly want to use it in.

I suspect they intentionally hobble the budget lines to ensure they're not too appealing compared to the X/T/P etc.

      • 250 nits isn't the only issue. According to that review, it has an absurdly narrow colour gamut (56.8% sRGB) which is going to look dull and undersaturated (as well as inaccurate on sRGB content). That's not going to be the end of the world for most business uses, but it's awful for photo editing, videos, games, etc.

        • Doesn't matter for external monitor usage
