      • Yeah I feel like jumping from the Optus ship, but not from Apple. Not too keen about paying a $525 early cancellation fee though..

As for Siri, the reason it can't run on iPhone 4 is because of the processor speed… or so we're told.

        • +1

That's a lie. Siri used to be a separate app in the App Store, until Apple bought them out. A few days before the announcement of the iPhone 4S, Siri was pulled from the App Store, and all existing iPhones with Siri installed displayed a message that it would be disabled soon.

TLDR; Siri worked on other iPhones til Apple in a way banned it to make it exclusive to iPhone 4S to push out sales. Rumour has it that other iPhones could possibly have it reincorporated as part of the iOS, instead of a separate app.

        • Yup, what kirynflare said, plus…

          TL;DR

Siri has already been hacked to work with iphone 3gs and iphone 4 - however the guy who did it was only out to prove a point so did not post a how to or the files required so as to avoid dealing with Apple's legal team (it required you to take and mod certain files on the iphone 4S and these are obviously not available freely in the public domain).

Another outfit came up with a work around - set up a spoof siri server so Apple doesn't cotton on. Problem with that was their server got overwhelmed by the number of hacked siri requested and fell over within a few days. They are thinking about reviving it but just about everyone sensible agrees that system is not a good idea as user's private data ends up being sent to these dodgy servers where no one knows how the data is handled - yeah they came up with the hack but no one had even heard of the group before the hack.

  • Is there anything wrong with getting a S2 and selling it on ebay, effectively gaining free access for 24 months?

I'm happy with my current phone >.<

Just worried that they might ask me to return the phone for some reason. But as long as I pay the bills it should be good?

  • if someone signs up for this, then found the network performance unsatisfactory, and cancelled the plan without penalty under the Vodafone Network Guarantee, but wanted to keep the actual handset, what's the cost of the handset?

for reference, clause 9 of the T&C for the guarantee says

If you elect to keep the device(s) the full price that you paid for the device(s) will be applied to your next bill.

  • Is this only for new numbers ? My Voda contract finishes on 19th Dec and I'd like to keep my number. Tried to buy online but said I would have to do it in store or call. Assume they won't honour the code.

  • Note that Telstra are also giving away signing credit if you port a number in and sign up on a 24 month contract.

This week I got a $200 credit for porting my number from Three and signing up for a 24 month $59 plan with a new iphone 4GS (an extra $3 / month).

It's not advertised, and only available by calling 1800 303302.

  • rep, signed up to a new iphone 4s 24 month plan a couple of weeks ago, any way you can get this credit applied to my account being an ozbargain user as well? Had a fair bit of trouble migrating from 3 to vodafone and missing out on this deal isn't the best :(

  • Hi Rep, I am looking to singing up two $29 phone plans with Vodafone. Do I entile to 10% discound automaticly on second phone as I have multiple services. If so how can I apply online so I can have both $100 credit and 10% as well. THanks

    • +1

Yes you will - when the account is set up the second service will automatically receive the 10% discount. Just use the 100DEC code when placing your order - the 10% will be applied automatically

      • Thanks. one more question please. I am currently with 3 and my plan about to expire in Feb 2012. Do I sign up the new plans and port the number back later on to Voda so I can keep the same number or do I call 3 or Voda to transfer to upgrace before singing up the new plans. Thanks in advance

        • Yes. I ported my number one month later. But you need to ring Voda to credit the period you not using the service.

  • Hi Rep,
Can you please confirm if this is available to existing customers? I just spent an hour on the phone talking to a CSR who knew nothing about the code. The best they could offer was 3 months free on the $29 cap for the Samsung Galaxy S2 but then tried to charge me $10 delivery fee as well as it was not an online purchase. Why is VF penalising existing customers?

Happy to purchase online but I am not able to keep my existing number that way.

BTW I am currently off contract

    • Direct CSR to this post? Might help

    • Get the New phone and port the existing Vodafone no to New one.

    GUYS!!! Seriously!!?!?

Vodafone again offering a great deal for you to sign on their HORRIBLE service and youre giving it positives?!?

I am currently a Vodafone customer so I know how it feels being on the receiving end of lost connections and poor network service. Cant wait till I can port my number.

If you are a current customer ask yourselves if youre happy with them before re-signing on a 24 month plan.

If youre currently not a customer ask your friends / family currently with Vodafone and if you get positive comments then feel free to sign up as well.

I know this is a bargain but i feel like its my moral obligation to make you think twice before signing up and not regret being stuck to a contract you can do without.

  • For those who are already on Vodafone, and don't want to risk the "new customer" thing, you can order the phone anyways, while porting your old number to another prepaid carrier. Porting is done when you receive the phone, and you have around 30 days from when you ordered to call up and put through the porting of your number.

    So:
    1. Order phone.
    2. Transfer Vodafone sim to another carrier.
    3. When you receive your phone, transfer your number back to Vodafone.

    • After ordering a new phone on cap, is it not possible to port the existing vodafone no. to new contract?

      • You can, but sometimes there are offers for "new customers only".

The above I said is how you could get around it I guess, although most of the time they should honour the deal if you call up.

        • But this offer was not limited to the new customers only. It is for signing up for 24 month plan. I will call them to port my existing vodafone no to this account.

        • they cannot port an existing vodafone no. to new vodafone contract. So we have to port the old no to some prepaid and then ask to port no.

Edit: Called again to the activation department at 1300101606 and the guy was brilliant. He did the change and told me to wait for and hour or so. So no porting to woolworth or other prepaid. My existing vodafone no. was transferred to the new contract.

  • Looks like promo code still valid.(17/12/2011

    • +1

      Maybe using india timezone?

  • How do they suddenly change the expiry date from a few days to just 1, with so little notice?? Definitely a neg!!

  • +1

This code is still working as of 3 hours ago.

  • Hi Rep,

How do I port my existing number (telstra) to vodafone and take advantage of this offer? My existing bill is paid by my company, I'm currently chasing up a letter from my company to release the number. What do I do next? Should I sign up first regardless?

  • The code still working

  • I was going to sign up when I had more time to look into the deal. Deal expired before it was originally promised to. oh well, just another reason not to switch back to Vodafone. Left them 4 years ago, was temped to come back due to the deal but yet another let down will keep me away for a while yet.
