    Price in title please OP

  • Price in the title would help

  • Got this one in my email as well. Is this good vs Arlo Ultra? Currently in the market to get my first one.

    • There should be sample videos on YouTube to assist in decision making

I think this kit was the one I got a while back for about $699 (50% off from Swann’s store).

Can’t speak for comparison to Arlo, but this kit is fine, cameras are okay, detection is awful (lots of false detections, I turned the screamer off because it would go off in a mild breeze), only 1 camera can have the more advanced detection features enabled. Desktop software is like the old Chinese rubbish but does work on both Windows 10 and macOS Big Sur. The browser client doesn’t work in any modern browser and mobile app is fine.

I’d call this kit one step up from the no name rubbish on eBay, but slightly under something like Hikvision (which still has crap desktop software but slightly better browser support)

    • Go for Arlo. Swann isn't what it used to be. Absolutely horrible experiences with them.

  • Why would I get this over a Eufy 2C kit?

    • Better get Eufy Cam 2 instead of Eufy 2C.

      • Why, and why is 2 better than this?

        • 365 days battery life, better video recording quality, AI, and compatibility with Google and Alexa smart devices

The eufy non 24/7 recording makes me uncomfortable. I'd hate for the detection to miss something important.

Reolink seems to be similar quality for cheaper than swann

      • Then Hikvision is the one for you. And an expensive NAS.

        • I'll definitely check out hikvision. Thanks.

Wired - no batteries going flat (and "up to" battery times are if it never actually records)
Recording - 24x7, not just motion activated, and by the time the camera wakes up, the thing has already gone past

That's pretty much it. I have this system but in NVR (so can record sound) and picked it for the above reasons as I needed it to record when the neighbour did silly things (and thanks to 24x7 recording, had enough footage for the magistrate to grant an MRO). Your needs may be different.

  • How much would it cost to install these 6 camera across the house?

    • $79 per camera plus GST

  • This systems looks to be a DVR version as opposed to an NVR version?

Quick googly seems to indicate NVR gives better quality video, anyone has experience with the two?

    • Definitely go for NVR if you can as the power to the camera as well as the video feed will be over a single ethernet cable (POE). DVRs will require you to plug in each camera into a power source which could be a pain if you're trying to hide away the box.

      Other advantages for NVR include:
      - flexibility in camera options (can use both wireless and wired IP cameras as long as you have remaining channels)
      - better video quality as it is a digital signal vs analogue for DVR

I strongly suggest avoiding the Swann ecosystem. The cameras and app are very unreliable and customer service is practically non-existent. Cameras constantly connecting and disconnecting for no reason, it is rare to have all cameras online at the same time. Even when they are working they don't capture video all the time, my cameras will go without recording for weeks at a time. Don't do it to yourself.

Haven't any issues with a Swann DVR system for years. App always connects fine over wifi or mobile data and cameras are obviously hardwired. Picks up motion pretty reliably and records without issue. Only issue is quality as it's a fairly old system, hence looking to upgrade. Are you using an NVR version or DVR?

Can't comment on customer service as haven't had the reason to contact them.

We've had the opposite experience where we a few cameras had issues with condensation in the lens. Sent through photos + serial numbers + receipts and they were more than happy to replace them for me free of charge by the following week. We got to keep the old cameras as well which work fine for indoors where it isn't cold enough for condensation to happen

App and recording works without any problems with connections. Only thing I find annoying is the motion + heat detection combination doesn't seem to work properly on the cameras so the phone can sometimes get spammed with notifications when it's just a tree swaying

My Swann setup is 3 years old - works perfectly. I'll be upgrading soon and passing on my old setup. Software a little clunky, but once its setup its fine. Works well remotely too.

  • Swann app is not great and limited options to configure nvr settings in the app.
Those who are looking to buy Swann NVR can also consider looking at Reolink NVR 4K system specs. Reolink app is better over Swann app.
