Just got a bulletin with this deal, starting tomorrow. $29 cap includes $180 calls and text, with 200MB data and you must take out an additional $4 data pack to give 900MB data total. It's running for 10 days only starting tomorrow. Total cost at $33 per month is $792.

I am not a rep, just work in a retail store.

edit: Also, the HTC Desire HD and HTC Sensation are both going for $0 on the $29 cap. Don't go with the Desire, though (12 months old), get the Galaxy or the Sensation.

  • Good deal.

Possible to get $$ via Buckscoop or Moneuyback co?

Also, possible to combine with this deal?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59623

    • I hope moneybackco was around $200 or so this month. But I am not sure, as it is coming $84 here above.
Secondly the deal in your link is for additional mobile you get on your existing vodafone account and not for the new account.

  • With so many new phones coming, SII getting old now.

Hope to see it $200 outright soon :p

    • +2

S1 is selling for round 350 though you know?

    • +6

Other than the screen resolution, SGS2 is still pretty good with better camera, expandable memory, SuperAMOLED+, future ICS support and a cheaper price tag.

    • I still think the S2 is a better phone than the new Nexus.

  • +1

Just want to add that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the same plan works out to be a total of $768 on a 12 month contract…

This is a deal, but trumped by a newer, cheaper phone on a shorter plan!

    • The Nexus is not cheaper
      792 for 24 months is < 768 for 12 months
      ie 33 < 64

      • +1

Is $708 for 12 months a good deal? Thats what I got and I get 1.5gb of internet?

        • good deal,
also towards the end you can usually negotiate with them to get a month or two off and start a new contract..

    • Can't say I agree with you.

On a dollar for dollar basis, $768 over 12 months is MORE than $792 over 24 months. Just apply opportunity cost and time value of money. (Assume 6% interest for argument's sake)

And in any case, the other deal you speak of is dependent on buckscoop coughing up the $200 - no guarantee. Vodafone have been known to veto those deals in the past. So you add an element of risk

So factoring in a)time value and b)risk premium, I would say this is a deal that has a lot going for it.

      • +2

There are two parts to both of these deals. The physical handset, and the service provided by Vodafone.

For any sane person, the vodafone service has a value of 0 (that's measured in dollars, coverage, customer service and pretty much anything else).

That said, it is now reduced to handset value. $768 for the SGN or $792 for the SGSII. It is a pretty simple proposition.

BTW - The $150 (starthere.com.au) or $200 (moneybackco / buckscoop) offer has not been considered in any of the above calculations… So there is possible further upside available to both of these deals.

        • "It is a pretty simple proposition"
Not quite so simple. Look up the concept of an 'annuity' for an explanation of why the $768 deal is actually costing you MORE than the $792 deal. The wikipedia definition is not the best, but will do if you can stomach the formulas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annuity_(finance_theory)
That being said, I would prefer the small extra cost of the SGN on that plan over the SGSII, if I could handle ever being with Vodafone again.

        • While Vodafone's service may be terrible, for most people, you cannot simply disjoin the plan from the phone and allocate a value of $0 to the mobile service. For most people, having to add the cost of the 2nd year of mobile service to the cost of the 12 month Samsung Nexus plan would make the SGSII the more desirable plan by far.

If you are going to allocate value in the manner that you have, you may as well purchase the Nexus outright from mobileciti or wherever, join a Vodafone $29 plan and sell the phone they supply to partly subsidise the Nexus. Of course, the above is for argument's sake, since if you purchase the phone outright, there is no reason to go back to Vodafone anyway.

As with many things, it's not that simple. Depends on individual priorities, but cost-wise, the SGSII plan is cheaper over two years.

      • Actually the SGN still works out cheaper even on a dollar for dollar basis.

Assume the discount rate is the same as the nominal 6% annual interest rate as you suggested.

        SGN:
        Present value = (64*12/0.06) * (1 - 1/(1 + 0.06/12)^12) = 743.61

        SGS II:
        Present value = (33*12/0.06) * (1 - 1/(1 + 0.06/12)^24) = 744.57

Verdict: SGN is very slightly cheaper over 12 months than SGS II over 24 months. Of course, this assumes that you place no value on the Vodaphone service for an additional 12 months.

  • +6

warning, you might find out that $180 credit is not enough for normal monthly usage.

    • +8

If you call lots of people on other networks and send many texts, $180 is definitely not enough. Luckily all my friends+family are on 3&Voda and I use Whatsapp

      • Same here 180 is more than enough , all family and friends are on 3 (now slowly moving to vodafone)

Whatsapp (Chat) , Viber (calls) , Jaxtr (SMS) and Tango (VideoCalls) do the rest.

I find myslef with unused usage everymonth that I try to use up making international calls

  • could I ask for a micro sim so I can just use the data on my ipad 2?

    • +3

      You can but no point.
      Paying $29 + 7 p/m just to use 900MB data ?

  • +12

    Nice deal, lame network.

    • +3

Amen. I enjoy being able to sms all my friends for free, but to lose reception in the Melbourne CBD of all places, that's just horrendous.

      • +1

I have no problems with the reception using Vodafone in the Melbourne CBD compared to Optus. In fact, after just recently switching to a SGS2, reception has gotten a lot better. Must have been because of the new 850 mhz network being rolled out by Vodafone that is also supported on the SGS2.

        • +1

Vodaphone/3 reception is very bad in my area in Sydney. 3G Data doesnt work most of the time. I'm waiting for my phone to go out of contract and will switch over to Optus/Telstra. Besides from that it's a cheap plan for the S2 but $180 of phone calls is not much these days.

        • -2

Vodafone and 3 are completely different networks - if you're having issues with 3, try switching to Vodafone to see if it's better (you can do this with no penalty/contract extension).

        • Yup 3's network is different from Vodafone's. But if you are using Vodafone then perhaps you should try getting an Optus prepaid to see if it's any better, otherwise get Telstra.

Because Optus' flaky data and congested network especially in metro areas have not yet between admitted and surprisingly no major outcry like a class action suit.

        • +1

Yeah I'm hearing some bad things about Optus lately, but it seems that everyone hates the telco that they're with. Traffic on the Vodafone network has doubled in the last 12 months so constant investment is necessary and I'm not sure if Optus is doing that.

    • 30 day guarantee is good though ,

lets see if they honour it

  • +1

if you a RAC member, I think u can get 5% off as well

    • +4

Can offers stack? Each one seems to have a specific sign-in page. Might be better to sign up over the phone and confirm all the discounts with the call centre rep.

      So deals include:

      Anything else?

      • +1

u cant combine buckscoop and nrma. by the way when did they launch the new nrma link? its not advertised ne where

      • +1

buckscoop seems not working. I have been waiting for 3 months.

    • +2

      new customers only

      • Offer commences 1 May 2011 and ends 31 December 2011. Not available to existing Vodafone customers who wish to upgrade. Offer is only available to existing American Express card
  • +1

Anyone contemplating using the Vodafone network is crazy. I just left because I could not stand the constant dropouts even with full bars on the phone and voice breakups and lack of any signal in major areas of the Melbourne CBD. I was so desperate I paid out the contract on 3 phones at a cost of $500, purchased 3 new smart phones (HTC) and connected to TPG. No I don't have heaps of cash but the stress it was causing me was not worth it after 12 months of hell.

Just get a HTC Incredible S from Optus, Unlock it online for $25 and connect to TPG, at least they have a slightly better network being Optus. For under $300 you have a very nice phone assuming you are not a technology fanboy that has to have the latest and best.

Best of all you are not locked into any contract, I will never lock myself in again to a contract.

    • +1

little bit off the topic, you may save $$25 unlocking fee as TPG using Optus network. I know as I am using the same handset and TPG. Of course if you are planning going overseas soon that's a different story .

    • +1

Hmmm I don't understand why you would have such problems in the CBD whereas what you described were what I experienced with Optus in March this year, fortunately I was on prepaid. Changed to Vodafone and never had any issues.

  • If you're going to be paying an extra $4 for the internet, then Crazy Johns is also viable Imho.

    Free on the $35 cap with a $50 visa card = 35x24 - 50 = $790.

750MB internet and $330 of calls vs 900MB internet and $180 calls on vodafone.

  • Notice it's now $29 over 24 months with $0 handset. No $4 data pack needed. Minimum cost over 24 months is $696.

    • +1

      Now it gets interesting!

Cap Phone Length Calls Data Free Months Re-contract Bonus TOTAL
      $29 $30 12 Months $180 200MB 0 0 $708
      $29 $0 24 Months $180 200MB 0 0 $696
      $49 $0 24 Months $550 1,500MB 2 20% $784~

(~Re-contract Bonus applied before free months)

For those sill people on Vodafone, looking to re-contract… That 24 month $49 plan looks kinda tempting.
Of course, you are still nuts for wanting to stay with vodafone for that long…

Could try your luck with MoneyBackCo / BuckScoop / StartHere bonuses and you are effectively getting the phone for a standard price and the service for a few cents (seems appropriate).

      • The $29 cap for 24 months also has 2 free months, yeah? (online only)

        • Doesn't appear so. I can't get the 2 months free to show in the cart on either $29 plan (or any 12 month plan obviously)

        • If I add a $50 plan it doesn't show up as 2 free months either.. so maybe its a manually adjusted thing..?

        • Needs to be the $49 cap plan (not the $50 infinite plans)

… Scroll down a bit Vladdo

        • Blu boy if you call the callcenter and negotiate they can usually add it in for you

      • Mind calculating the $49 cap for me with full working?

Can't quite work out how you got it that cheap ><"

@Vladdo, the 2 months free used to be applied automatically where applicable and is shown clearly in the cart.

        • (((($49 + 0 ) * 24 months) * 0.80) / 24) * 22 = … Damnit!

You are correct - The $49 cap plan will cost ~$862.40 over the 24 months.
(I can't edit that post anymore!)

This is an extra $166 over the $29 cap plan (Or an extra $6.95 a month over 24 months).
I still believe the added included calls and data is worth it

Disclaimer: I dislike Vodafone with a passion… Still not sure why I am in this thread!
(Yea ok, I just like the bargain hunting :)

        • hrm… i added the NRMA discount coupon and now whenever i got to shop.vodafone.com.au it automatically logs me into the NRMA page, and doesn't add the 2 months free thing.. bummer :(

        • +2

@Blueboy, this is off-topic, but in your calculations:

          (((($49 + 0 ) * 24 months) * 0.80) / 24) * 22 = … Damnit!

you multiplied by 24 just to divide it by 24 again :P

          simply put, it's just $49 * 0.8 (20% off) * 22 months (2 months free), right?

    • Note that this is online only - in store the $4 data pack is required (and is on all promotional material).

  • Is it just me, or has the HTC sensation price already come down?

  • Bluboy can you post a link to that $49 deal? Is it confirmed that we can't add the nrma 10% to that deal as well? Trying to upgrade my mothers current brick for her.

  • fee handset disc monthly month total payment
    29 20% $23.2 24 556.8
    29 30 20% $53.2 12 638.4
    49 25 20% $64.2 12 770.4
    49 30% $34.3 24 823.2
    49 20% $39.2 22 862.4

the cheapest is on $29 plan for 24 months, taking account 10% NRMA discount + 10% existing account (20% disc)

$49 + $25 handset plan is also not too bad for 12 months contract, taking account 20% discount with total payment of $770.40

  • "10% existing account" is only for adding a Pocket Wifi to your current account. see http://vodafone.com.au/personal/plans/existing-customer/exis…

  • Guys what is the NRMA discount code? If I call 3 priority team and change to voda from 3 for Galaxy on $29 cap, I cannot get moneybackco (and now starthere.com.au) $100 credit for joining vodafone?

    • Moneyback is $200. Don't know how to get Nrma with moneyback.
There is a different link for Nrma. See comments above for the link.

  • +1

Guys, just upgraded from 3 on a $29 plan. I rang the upgrade department and got the SGII on $29 cap with first month free and also free 1 gig of data per month for the 24 month contract. Seems like a good deal. Also when I move over I can get 7500 Amex Frequent flyer points as well…

    • Thanks for sharing this. I am also looking for the same handset but thinking 12 months contract. Not sure how much I can negotiate.

      • 12 month plans are hard to negotiate because they're close to unprofitable. Handset installments are essentially fixed ($29+$30 installment/month) so you could try for getting a certain number of months free, but I don't like your chances.

      • Let us knwo how you go with them,,

    • Thanks for posting here, I'm also upgrading from 3 and got the same deal! Should have tried to push for 2 months free but happy enough!

  • Forgot to say I pushed for 2 months free but they would not budge…

  • Guys, if you order online, this code is still active:

    $25 credit.

    25CREDIT

You might get $100 if you are switching from 3 to Voda (but can only be done instore or on phone).

    • How can we get $100 while switching from 3 to voda over the phone?

      • You can if you are on the older Hot for 3 and other plans. Call 3/Voda and ask.

    • +1

You can get $100 off using this code: 100DEC
although this seems to be off the first bill only.
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59716

      • +1

No, it is confirmed by the Vodafone REP, it will be added in your account, till it is consumed.

        • +1

          Awesome combo then :)

  • Can anyone get the SAVE20 code to work?

If you sign up a second plan with Voda, you get 20% off the SGSII plan. Seems like a great offer as it brings the life of the plan down to $556.80 across 24 months.

    See this image here:

    http://shop.vodafone.com.au/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2853…

You should see it on the same page as the SGSII.

    • just noticed
The SGS2 offer on that image says offer expiry 3/1/11

Not sure if the SGS2 was even out early this year !

  • Just ordered one.

    Are these models NFC enabled?

    • no Don't think so,
the Galaxy Nexus - Google phone is NFC enabled

Did you get any special deal / offer / months off ?
      please share the details

      • Nope…just the standard 29p/m for 24m + $4 data

        The guy wouldn't budge :(

and this is me coming across from Three…

    • No - the only NFC phones Vodafone stocks are the Nexus S, Nokia N9 and (soon to be) Galaxy Nexus.

      • That sucks.

A friend of mine at work got one from Korea which is NFC enabled…

        • Yeah there is an NFC version, but for some reason the i9100T (the Telstra/Vodafone version - supports 850MHz) does not.

  • +3

Check out this offer as well for $100 credit on first bill.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59716

    • +1

So to recap, the lowest one can get this for is:

      SGSII @ $29/mth x 24 months = $696

      = $526.40

      Not bad at all!

      • The rep said on the other thread:
        "VodafoneOnline 34 min ago new
Unfortunately it isn't possible. The NRMA Partner discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotional code/discount."

Still a pretty good deal though considering SGSII costs around $500+ outright (Kogan)

  • -7

The point of having a phone with no coverage? Vodafone "upgraded" my zone, with maps highlighting latest 3g. Looking more closely by moving the mouse pointer around, coverage is ridiculously patchy showing phone NO coverage when indoors and about 1 star when outdoors….nothing for data. Move from one side of the street to the other end - it all changes to about 4 out of 5 stars.

Like selling the latest exotic car…but you have to drive it on a 4wd course….

Considering that I work from home - pretty useless deal.

  • -1

If I remember right, internet data usage when roaming is not included in the cap and costs extra

    • Funny thing is that you can't roam AT ALL on Vodafone as of now. I asked a sales person the other day and they said that they don't have agreements with Optus or Telstra for roaming.

  • Cap Phone Length Calls Data Free Months Re-contract Bonus TOTAL
    $49 $0 24 Months $550 1,500MB 2 20% $784~

When you get the 20% recontract do you also get the 2 months free access. Also can you claim the NRMA 10% or $100 promo with that too??

    • No. $100 promo cannot be used with any other discount excepy the 2 months free or 20% one given in website.

  • +1

    I'm with 3 ($20 sim only plan)

And i got an sms with this offer without the data pack $696 total cost over 24 months

    did any1 else get this?
and can you walk into a vodaphone store on teh weekend and pick up the phone then and there?

    • Call them to see if you can get a better deal over the phone.

      • 3 people can and will get a better deal if you haggle as Vodafone are trying to have you move over to 3.

        • Well thats what I thought too!! and guess what, I was WRONG! (or unlucky..)
They didnt even offer me the $100 credit which I can get if I directly buy it online from Voda website and seemed like quite happy to let go of 2 x $29 plans to Virgin.
And thats after waiting over 30Mins in their customer service queue!

    • Let us know how it goes SpaceFrog :D

  • Got mine transferred from 3 across yesterday.
    $29, 24 months, 1 month free.
Didn't manage to get any better deal.
Learned also that to unlock SIM-lock will cost another $20 or $30 later on.

Delivery ETA is early Jan, will see how it goes with network quality for day to day use, and to port the number back to Three if not happy with the 30 days network warranty. But will have to post the phone back.

    • It's actually free, you were misinformed. Just head to vodafone.com.au/unlock and put in the IMEI number (note that it might not work for the first few weeks because the handset has to be reported as sold before it goes on the website).

  • wow im getting this

    $29 a month for 24 motnhs

    total cost $690

    sound sso tempting

    delivery is until january?

    • faster delivery @virginmobile
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59896

      • $690 - $100 credit with code 100DEC

        so $590 for 2 yrs

        $24.83 a month.

        thats alright i guess.

vodaphone reception is better than virgin?

        • It depends on your area. Given the issues Voda have had (and the issues I'm hearing with the Optus network), it might be worth grabbing a $2 sim for a few days to see how it is.

        • -1

          $690 - $100 credit with code 100DEC

          that's already expired!

        • some people have still reported it working, so its worth giving it a try. although be aware, some people are being quoted january for handset delivery.
