      Why

        • +6

So let's delve deeper into Marques video to see his source and what it says.

          https://blog.poco.net/en/?p=135

4GB+64GB: Recommended retail price at $149
Both will be available for purchase online starting on Nov 27th at an early bird price of $129 and $149 respectively.

Early-bird preorders are over, it's been released so the RRP is $149 US ex GST. This is $138.90 US with Redmi Airdots 2 ex GST, so it's actually sold below RRP on AliExpress and thus… a good deal.

@Clear: Mate, it was just a simple Among Us reference and I have no clue what you're on about.

            • +2

@s1Lence: Sorry I'm used to years and years of people questioning prices in deals so justification is often needed. Never played Among Us surprisingly so I wouldn't know ;)

        • +7

In case you don't get it, the phone looks like the characters from the Among Us video game, which recently re-popularised the slang phrase "That's sus[pect]".

          • @ben-j: Thanks for the clarification.

          • @ben-j: not 'suspicious'? in any case, it redefined 'sus'. hilarious to hear kids call each other sus

            • @belongsinforums: No worries. Was replying to the above comment since I appreciate when people explain obscure-reference jokes. Didn't realise the conversation had continued.

              Yeah, "suspicious" makes more sense.

            • @belongsinforums: yeah …. laziness in grammar and abbreviations when texting and urban slang and keeping up with memes and other pop culture can be challenging …..i also thought sus meant suspect and so might be a fake deal rather then a reference to pop culture …… wish i was in the groove, need to spend more time on you tube or with my 14 yr old son, he’s the “bomb” ?

Have an upvote, I got the reference hifive

How is this not trolling/personal attack Ozbargain mods? Talk about Chinese bias..

I got banned for a month for something way less offensive.

          • @jackinyourbox: What did they say when you reported it?

            • @Clear: No response. I’ve had this previously where I believe they will wait for my rebuttal of the comment then ban me for ‘trolling’.

Generally I would of just commented back with something just as offensive.

Wow. Does this phone have adverts that advertise the CCP party. Aren't their rules against political advertising?

      • +2

heard there are ads, but its not like political ads. just ads paid by other companies to offset some of the cost for this phone as its really fricken cheap.

you can spend a few mins and turn off all the ads and never see them again anyway

        • Thank you :)

        • Steals info and sends it back to China for the CCP. It’s a digital spy

          • +1

@jackinyourbox: google sends my location back to google based on radio towers and you can’t run that off, part of EULA for android …..i’m less worried about CCP selling or sharing data than i am about google or facebook.

            • @garage sale: Chinese companies are TOLD to align with CCP demands. There isn’t any privacy laws to protect you at all.

  • No NFC on this one right?

    • Nope sadly not.

love my original airdots. absolutely fantastic for gym

    Good price - but Poco M3 for $202 or X3 $290?

Edit - Only plus for M3 seems to be the price and slightly bigger battery.

  • +2

TechTablets review is damning of this phone and rightly so. That being said, it's only 200 bucks, so make what you will of that.

  • +1

Crap phone. Only good thing about it is the 6000+ maH battery. It can easily last you for days. That's it.

Slow CPU. LCD screen. No NFC.

Maybe a good phone for your parents or kids. Would probably be a good phone for my mother as she often forgets to charge her phone.

Anyone who is wanting to use this as a main phone will only just get frustrated by the lag. Better to spend a little bit more and get the X3.

    • It might be better with a custom ROM. I used to have a RN4 with SD625 and it didn't lag at all with a custom ROM. But that MIUI was full of bloatware and couldn't stand a day with that.

    • +1

yeah …. screen type and no nfc limits the appeal , if you bought it for your mum means no need to do the tech support to get rid of ads, etc, but great for kids, if they break the screen just bin the phone rather than the hassle of repair.

    • +2

      @Plasmoke and @garagesale
For $200 You get SD 662 Day to day I see no lag here.
what phone at $200 do you get with Amoled screen?
You have to spend $400 for phones with amoled screen.
and for ads you only get an ad if you install an app from the store.
Use chrome for your browser NO ads at all.

      • -1

Honestly it depends on your expectations. If you know it's going to be a cheap slow phone, then you'll be okay with it.

If you spent $200, and expecting a fast good phone with ability to do contactless payments, then this is not something for you.

I'm just giving people the reality. I think most people in this day and age wouldn't be happy with this phone. SD662 may be a decent low end chip but when paired with this OS, just makes everything appear slower, like half a second to minimise apps or a few seconds to load some apps.

Check out the reviews for it. It's just not only me who has this opinion.

        • @Plasmoske
I think people who want to spend ONLY $200 for a phone know what to expect
and would not care for the half second that an app will open slower.
And as you said the SD 65 is a good midranger where as your original post said it was crap.
If you want to play the high end games get one with with SD 888 spend $1500-$2000 or more on a phone.
You also have NOT told me another phone in this price that has AMOLED screen or better specs.
The iphone SE at over $700 has NO Amoled.

          • @costas60: You just ignored my original post which mentions X3 (extra $60). Sure it's still LCD but everything else is much faster/better. And you can make contactless payments and play games lag free. For extra $60. Same brand.

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/595089

Yes if I spent $200 on a phone and have to wait seconds to do any tasks, then it is crap. Not to mention random lags during app usage. Check the reviews. I would rather spend another $60 and not have these problems.

            • @plasmoske: @plasmoske
You STILL have NOT shown me a phone at the $200 price that does not run as you say crap.
I agree the Poco X3 is a great phone for the cost BUT at $200 whaT IS BETTER?

              • @costas60: Don't think such a phone exists. That's why I recommend people to spend a bit extra for something that is actually good.

Such as the $260 Poco X3.

I didn't say there was a better $200 phone out there.

Seems like you just want to argue. All I simply said was that this phone is not good for a main phone and that it's better to spend extra for less frustrations. That's it. You don't need to put words into my mouth.

I'll just leave it at that. I got nothing further to add.

  • The PocoLogo though… :/

    • +1

Put the included case on it, and you cant see it.

Got this phone for parents, they don't use NFC, just needed a big screen. For a casual user, its great, and battery lasts for 3 days. Also note, its damn loud, the phone ringtone by default is annoying as hell (thats putting it nicely).

Also no ads, where are the ads?

      • Sounds awesome because I struggle to hear my iphone ringing.
