Depends who you ask (WD or Seagate fanboys) you will get varying opinions, anecdotal statistics about failures ( my friends brothers cousin in law had a xyz and it broke after 3 months ), backblaze statistics and so forth. Each drive has its own strengths and weaknesses. I've used both, and both will do the job, but I'll probably give seagate the slight edge in that their drives are slightly quieter and the NAS drives feel a bit more of an upgrade over their desktop drives, while the WD RED just feels like a desktop drive with a modified firmware to suit NAS units.
WD Red is 5400RPM and Ironwolf is 7200RPM.
I would not say that is a huge difference for NAS, but if u r using these as desktop drives, I would go for Ironwolf.
4tb ironwolfs are 5900 rpm so more quiet than. Large 8tb 7200 rpm ironwolfs
WD red are SMR drive and Ironwolf are CMR drive, if you are using it in a NAS stay away from WD red, otherwise you will get a very bad time if you ever need to rebuild or resilver your pool.
Similar pricing from Computer Alliance on Amazon…
How does it compare to WD Red? Thx…
