$0 Connection Fee (Was $99) on nbn Broadband Plans @ Optus

60

Was assessing options for NBN and found optus is offering to waive $99 start up fee (online and in store). Whilst it is not super fantastic but it may give incentive for anyone wants to look for cheaper nbn option.

There are other competitor that offers cheaper nbn, so Optus is not the cheapest.

Modem
You can also saves $252 for the modem cost, if you stay with them for 36 months.

Monthly cost
Optus NBN FTTC that I found was $75 (nbn 50) and $90 (nbn 100) which considerably cheaper than Telstra. $90 (nbn 50) and $110 (nbn 100)

Perks
Optus sport is included. (Value appx $129)

Note: you can get extra 25,000 Flybuys points if you go through this link

But why would you want to go with Optus? Especially on a 36 month contract!

Why is there even a "start up fee" to begin with?

    • +2

Because some people actually pay it.

  • Unfortunately the modem is bundled and you can't remove it.

Going by the reviews https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/sagemcom-gateway-f… it appears to be a Sagemcom F@ST 5366tn with 4G LTE backup which is speed limited to 12/1mbps.

  • Why do you want to save $99 and pay nearly $300 for a dumb modem/router? That money can go a long way for a decent router.

Was chatting to a neighbour recently, all having been cut over to NBN in the last 6 months.

He said "I hate the NBN, every day between 10am and 11am the speeds go really slow"

I sad "Its not the NBN, its Optus, I'm with Telstra and there are no slowdowns…

You get what you pay for, and Optus have always been cheap and nasty.

I can agree with the nasty part, but not cheap. I have always paid around 60 for 50mbps. Currently with tangerine. Rock solid connection, no contract
