Just finished watching this. What a great show. Can’t wait for the next season!

    • +24

      :(

    • +7

Lol funny joke, best show to get canned after one season but they did finish it off with a movie so that's something I guess.

Not interested in owning any of those movies :). I want to watch Greenland when it comes out and season 3 of the Mandalorian.

    • +1

Disney are rebooting it with a lower classification.

      • +15

They may as well just make it a totally different show. Making it a family show and not having Whedons writing and I assume completely different cast they're not going to attract original fans and so there's no point trying to tie it to the old series even in name.

        • +11

Just create a different show in the same universe, IMO.

      • +5

BOOOOOOOO. Adults need tv series too.

        • +4

Sadly these days I don’t trust what Disney do with most of the intellectual property they get. They put in a lot of their own political motives

          • +4

@lonewolf: Agreed, and they keep buying the rights to everything, and spitting out shitty crap year after year, the Mando being the one exception to date, but even then it could be spiced up to an MA15+ rating nicely to feel out the Bounty Hunter vibes more.

            • +2

@itsHughesy: Yes I heard Mandolorian is a good series, but the way they have massacred the rest of Star Wars as well as all the disney movies / live action to have come out recently from them. I shudder to think of all the other products they are going to screw up. From what i hear it seems to be coming from the top (Kathleen Kennedy).

          • +2

@lonewolf: Yep don't trust Disney as far as I can throw them. Look at what they've done to Star Wars, apart from Rogue One & The Mandalorian the rest has been pure garbage (Sequel Trilogy & Resistance cartoon show) to medicore (Solo, TCW S7 & Rebels) at best. The Mandalorian, while enjoyable, has plot holes you can drive a truck through and is constantly contradicting previous established lore in the new Disney era canon. And that's just the movies and TV shows. The books and comics are in a far worse state. The Disney era Star Wars book Last Shot would be the single worst book I've ever read.

    • +3

      Too soon.

  • +2

    Don't forget Serenity.

    • +4

      Counter advice: forget Serenity.

      • +2

What? Why? It was a great movie.

        • Didn't like it at all, prefer to let the series hang lol

          • +1

@itsHughesy: Fair enough. I loved it. I watched it first before watching the series, so the movie was my gateway.

  • I wonder what the quality is like? 1080p?

  • OOS?Firefly is showing as unavailable :(

    • Firefly is showing as $30 to me.

  • When's season 2 coming out? Neflix or Amazon prime video? :P

    • +1

They are going to release one episode in each of the streaming services….

      • Hahaha, I wouldn't put it past them to torture Firefly fans like that!

        • In the modern version, the government controlling the inner planets are the good guys against the red neck outers, who need to be saved from themselves, for their own good.

Best lines in the whole thing, from River Tam in the Serenity movie

“People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think. Don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.”

She was promptly speared in the head by the teacher.

Darn sold out. Great movie. If you like this then the audiobook series on Audible "Galaxy Outlaws: The Complete Black Ocean Mobius Missions, 1-16.5" is a series that was heavily influenced by this show. The author missed the show so wrote some similar books. Make sure you get the complete collection, it's 85 hours long with all the books in the series for 1 audible credit. Excellent stories and very well read.

  • +1

Likely coz one's not enough for some….

  • +3

More like the incomplete series amirite

    • Yep, bring on season 2 and 3, one of these streaming services should reboot this.

      • +1

Wheddon had plans for 7 seasons. I had read that Disney is planning a reboot it but based on every other reboot do we really want them to reboot it?

        • Is that a trick question? Of course! Disney had done pretty well with the Star Wars Franchise. The Mandalorian is pretty good. The stand alone movies were good too, like Rogue One.

The main movies were not the best, but definitely watchable.

          • @techlead: The main Sequel Trilogy movies were garbage, Disney & LucasFilm know it too. Of all the 12 new shows & 2 movies that are currently in works at LFL none are set in the Sequel era. Of the information released about the shows & movies almost all are in the time period just after Return of the Jedi, Acolyte is prior to the PT and Andor is set before the OT. Expecting Lando to be a semi sequel to Solo and pre OT. There's other stuff with no info available but LFL seems to doing a pretty good job of ignoring the ST right now.

            • @Rockets84: There's going to be a show about Bobba from the end credits of the The Mandalorian finale. Disney have definitely made a good purchase, they've made back their original investment already.

I think they are doing a reasonable job with all the movies and shows.

              • @techlead: Yep that Boba Fett show is going to be set in the same time frame as Mando, which is much earlier than the ST, so it's ignoring the ST too. Disney making their money back is debatable though. The gross takings certainly make it look that way but once you remove the theatre's share, the cost of production of the movies, the cost of marketing them (rule of thumb is at least 50% of the cost of production) on top and Solo flopped & actually lost money. I saw some one run the numbers based on that and they are still in the red from the acquisition. Then factor in the massive amount of money they've spent developing Galaxy's Edge at the parks, so they aren't making bank yet but they'll get there

          • @techlead: By that metric, then George Lucas did well with the prequels… 'Watchable' is damning with faint praise; I don't see the need for a Firefly reboot that is watchable but devoid of any heart or soul.

    Firefly - The Complete Series

1 season is now referred to as a complete series?

On another note, great to see so many OzBargainers familiar with Firefly. One of the best shows I've watched in the last 2 decades.

    • I'm still waiting for season 2…

  • Top Scifi series

  • Is this on netflix

spoiler: not available on any major streaming service in australia.

      • It was on Netflix a while ago I recall. Or maybe that was when I had a VPN?

        • It did used to be on Aussie Netflix - no VPN was required. It must have done its stint and came down quite some time ago.

    • No, but Serenity is on Prime Video.

    Shiny!

Does anyone know if the episodes on this set are in the right order and not the broadcast order? Fox royally screwed over this show and one of the things they did was to not air the episodes in the correct chronological order which kinda makes the show a bit harder to get into.

    • +2

My DVD is in the episodic order, not the (profanity) Fox released in. Would 99.99% sure the Bluray is the same

      • I dont get it, Why did Fox do that? Thats just really weird.

        • Some MBA weenie at junior exec level trying to screw over their boss so they could get the job, or similar no doubt.

Or maybe they hated Joss Weedon, hated Sci Fi, or just hated Firefly memes in particular.

          • @entropysbane: hmm this might explain why when i started watching it a while back, I was somewhat confused and found the plot a bit strange with characters appearing and disappearing. Then i thought i should watch the Full HD version and havent gone back to it yet. ITs still on my pile of things to watch. Everyone seems to love it. Any chance of a 4k remaster?

        • +1

Initially Fox wanted to start the season off with a episode that had a lot of action in it to try and get viewers in & promoted it as a action comedy type show (which it's not really) so they aired the Train Job episode first instead of the real first double episode which had a lot of the world building in it and made it confusing of course. They didn't even air that last 3 made episodes in the US, they aired in the UK and the US only got them with the DVD release. These are just some of the strange things that happened with it. IT was planned out for 7 seasons who knows what we could have gotten if it had been made by another network.

          • +1

@Rockets84: So it actually sounds like Fox is the reason why it only made 1 season, initially i thought there was some politics involved or that it started as a cult following then only got a larger following by the time it had already been cancelled. But it sounds like Fox just messed up with how they showed it.

            • +1

@lonewolf: Yeah, Fox apparently put in in a strange time slot too. There was numerous fan driven attempts to get the show saved by another network and it's certainly got a cult following now. I didn't see it till a few years after it got cancelled when the follow up movie Serenity was released.

        • +2

Fox is/was anti sci fi from what I can work out but at the same time they don't want others having a potentially successful show so they buy the rights, make a season or two, and then cancel it regardless of reception. Firefly is probably the most well known example and perhaps the biggest mistake but if you Google it then there's been a lot. They weren't always amazing shows but they were usually at least decent and building with a good fan base. Sarah Connor Chronicles, Doll House, Almost Human, Terra Nova are just a few that come to mind.

Missed it earlier in the week. Keen to watch it again but can’t stomach fuzzy DVD 🤣

    • +1

That's the movie that followed the television series, to wrap up the story a little. Thanks for the heads-up, though. Have seen it before, but was a long time ago. Given I recently grabbed the series to rewatch on blu-ray, I just grabbed this too. Thanks :)

      • +1

Ah shit, I bought the movie!
