  • I bought this from woolies not too long ago, how does it compare and should I get this one aswell??

One is non stick and other is stainless steel .. I rather buy stainless steel over non stick, personal preference.

But you are not doing Apple to Apple comparison to Start with

Other online stores sell it for around $50 give or take. Still the cheaper option but 71% off RRP is misleading.

  • Never buy stainless steel before, can I use this to cook eggs?

    • +1

best to use non-stick for eggs.

    • +1

Stainless steel is okay for eggs, just make sure you add the oil once the pan is hot then let the oil heat up a bit then add the eggs and they shouldn't stick. This pan is huge though so if you're just cooking eggs for yourself you will want something smaller. I prefer cast iron for fried and non-stick for scrambled eggs though. If you get any oil spots burnt onto stainless steel that won't come off use barkeepers friend to clean it.

      indium is right.

    • You will need to add lot of oil. It can burn easily.

      • Can this be used to cook cook steaks then? Steaks require pan to be roaring hot

        • I never cooked steaks in this. Cast iron is good for that.

          • @carlJack: I don't have a cast iron, waiting for a deal

            • @Homr: If you have Prime, two for $54.88.

              • @jimojr: Thanks, I've got prime but I don't need 2 cast irons 😂

Got this same pan. Food sticks to this like glue. Get a non-stick.

    • +5

Hmmm…pan probably not hot enough? How to tell if it's hot enough…if you flick some water into the pan, it should skittle around the pan like little balls.

    • +3

Can't use this like a normal non-stick pan. You need copius amount of heat to keep food from sticking. A good induction cooker would go well with such pans.

There is also a way of seasoning the pan with oil where it then creates non-stick capabilities. Note any acidic cleaning, harsh soap, dishwashing will remove the treatment.

      • Can this be used to cook cook steaks then? Steaks require pan to be roaring hot

        • Great for steaks, hard to get the temperature right for butter/garlic/thyme bastes though

          • @iMagoo: Yeh thats true, I've had that problem aswell when I try to baste my steak with butter and the butter just ends up being burnt.

So now I just make a separate mushroom sauce on a different pan

            • @Homr: Part of the issue with these pans in particular is that the thin sides of the pan burn food really easily, especially if you do a quick tilt to pool up the butter for a baste.

  • I actually thought I was doing the opposite and it wasn't hot enough.

  • I bought these pans in a set a few years back and can't recommend them. It is incredibly difficult to stop foods sticking (food needs to be close to room temp before cooking, pan needs to be seasoned, pan needs to be roaring hot, but not to the point it will smoke the oil you add). Just too finicky on a gas burner. The sides of the pan are much thinner and will burn any food that touches them.

Would not recommend over a quality non-stick.

    • Yeah, same here. We had a set, one of these and one of about 20cm. We ended up giving them away, as everything would either stick or burn (or both). No doubt there's an art to cooking with stainless steel, but the amount of heat required is not compatible with all types of food. We are definitely not new to cooking, but we couldn't make this work for us.

  • Thanks, Op. I've bought Scanpan impact 20cm and 28cm set for $89 instead. Maybe not bargain but the set will be delivered before Christmas if you order next 3hrs or so according to Amazon.
