isn't OBS free (always)? Hmm how does this compare with OBS?

  • +5

Negging because this is OBS repackaged for a cost.

Dont support this, just use OBS.

  • Clearly no one reads,

    Under additional terms

'The application uses code from the OBS Studio project (obsproject.com) under the license of GPLv2. The source code can be obtained from (github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/). The modified source code can be made available upon request.'

This is no different from Redhat charging for Linux,

    • yeah didn't get down to the additional terms bit :S mmmm

    • Under additional terms

Need to get a good lawyerz to check if it's legit…

It's OBS reskinned. Without the source code being provided which I am pretty sure is required with GPL.

    OMG

I bought this before reading the comments and now I feel violated…

No, no you didn't buy it.
      But hopefully you were violated!!

I get why people upset with open-source app being re-badged. However this happened with almost anything people can get away with?

Ffmpeg is another great example people making money from free software (insert any paid video converter here)

    • At least someone had to slap on some kind of UI on ffmpeg. This seems more blatant copy and paste change logo icon and charged $30.

Plus there's free open source versions of software using ffmpeg. Shotcut? Vlc?

  • Should have read the comments. This is just OBS re-badged. Wasted my time.

  • What's the best free software for screenshots of my desktop screen?

I don't need to record videos.

      i use screenpresso!

      GreenShot
      ShareX

      both are free.

      Greenshot for me

    • +1

I'll second Greenshot, does absolutely everything you need it to.

      Press printscreen.

If you have an Nvidia or AMD graphics card, both have software that takes screenshots and, if the need ever arises, video.

    • +1

      Techsmith Capture (previously Jing)

      • Tks.
I remember using this previously and was satisfied with it. 👍

  • Please advise free software for video editing, but not complex though. Currently I am using Windows video editor, but it does not have many options.

DaVinci Resolve. Does most of the thing you will ever need.
I found it not too complex, however it may depend on the user. You can always use just the basics.

    • +1

      shotcut.

Repackaging open source software with little to no modifications and charging for it? Might be legal but certainly not moral in my mind. Fits the same category as scalpers.

  • If you use the Microsoft store, you're scamming YOURSELF.

  • Selling open source software - negged

  • lol fun post
