      • Why are you waiting? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/590391
This has been posted before and seems to be duplicate.

        • Its only Port over deal for 90days.
New customer without any previous provider is not applicable.

            @[Deactivated]: Look again.

LIMITED TIME ONLY NEW CUSTOMER OFFER

            90 day plan

            • @bargainparker: Doesn't work, I tried again, it says INVALID VOUCHER.
I had to get full refund from Kogan Mobile.

              • @[Deactivated]: Never had a problem and have done it many times. Buy sim -> instant email code -> sim arrives -> activate sim (https://accounts.koganmobile.com.au/activation) -> enter code from email -> done

No porting, just new customer every time.

                • @bargainparker: That is why for this 90days plan they specifically mentioned in the deal "Port Over Deal". For new customer deal is currently only for 30days.

                  • @[Deactivated]: It says both "Port Over Offer/New Customers Only". Otherwise it would be either port over offer or new customers only.

    • Can anyone please share the experience of port in and out?

      • +1

Pretty straightforward, last time took about 20 hours from Telstra postpaid

        Port out comparably routine.

      • +4

For me it took less then 5 minutes from Boost to Kogan 2 days ago. May vary from case to case…
        Thanks

      • +2

It took less than five minutes for me too. Boost to Kogan about two weeks ago.

      • +1

Ported from Kogan to Boost 2 weeks ago. Frustratingly took 3 days. Hard to know who caused the delay. I sim hop regularly and rarely has it take more than day and more often less than a few hours

      • +1

I go back and forth with Belong and Kogan. Takes 15 minutes each time. Never had issues porting as long as plan with current provider wasn't expired.

    • -4

It continues to slowly creep up in price… Used to be around $1, then $3 now $5.

      • +1

        It's been $5 for a while…

      • +7

$4.9 is always the standard price. Any amount below is a special price.

          • +5

@Musiclover: 2020 and 2019 are the same link.

As per Neoika's comment, $4.90 is standard.. it never creeped up, it temporarily dipped

            • -1

@cwongtech: Really? Having troubles finding $4.90 packs in 2018.

              • -1

@Musiclover: Coz it was not rolled out or was not 40GB in the beginning. It was 20GB or 30GB.

                • -3

@Neoika: First you say that it has always been $4.90 now you say that it wasn't because it had less GBs. Make up your mind.

                  • @Musiclover: I do not bother to check history price for this. Obviously, all mobile plans had less data in the past.

I think you firstly bought it for 99c and then had the impression of "creep up".

                    • -1

@Neoika: You do not bother to check price history and yet you state that it has always been $4.90? That's very logical.

                  • @Musiclover: Their point was, the regular price is $4.90 for 40GB of data, and Kogan occasionally offered it at a lower price for a limited time. (I always assumed Kogan only discounted it when they sold less SIMs than expected that month, so were left with an excess, and gave them away cheap rather than tossing them out figuring it might bring in a few new customers.) Whereas your posts imply those temporarily-discounted prices were the regular ongoing price. It's been $4.90/40GB for a few years now.

I predict there won't be any future discounts on this. The activation expiry used to be only a month but has obviously been increased to several months. So whatever deal Kogan & Optus had has changed and there's no need for Kogan to have a fire sale on excess SIMs that are about to expire.

Have not seen $1 for a long time

      • +15

You're not alone, lots of people have lost their jobs recently because of Covid.

    • The price drop to $0.99 usually happens around FY end, so might come in May-Jun'2021, fingers crossed.

        • +2

One opportunity to get Amaysim $30 30GB for $1 profit last week. Except that their system f'ed up at some point during the night.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: I did notice it without the post. I have several Optus/Amaysim SIM cards already. As it needs $30 to pay in advance, I think it is better to buy Choice GC with 100% tracking success.

      • I haven't seen it for $1 in the past two years, maybe I missed out on those deals

Best I've seen was $1 off.

        Hope you're right though.

      • It didn't happen last FY and now with the several-month expiry, probably never will again. With an expiry date several months in the future rather than monthly like it used to be, Kogan won't get stuck with excess unsold SIMs that are about to expire. :-(

    • If you've used kogan before like a few years ago, can you still use this deal?

      • +4

As long as you're not trying to recharge a number that's currently with Kogan then yes

      • "New customer" really means new account/number. i.e. The same person could buy a dozen as long as they either have that many numbers to port, or use the new number printed on the starter packs (and tick the "No I don't have more than four active services", which if you tick yes would require talking to Kogan reps to activate more).

    • how much is it after the first 30 days, is it still $4.90? or does it revert to something else, can't seem to find any info on it

      • No, full price. Like $50 or something.

        • +2

Remember to turn off auto recharge.

          • +1

@Xantar: Remove the card from the account right after sim activation

            • @cwongtech: No, wait till they give you back $1.

              • @bargainparker: That goes away automatically lol..

              • @bargainparker: I've had many of these and Kogan has never actually withdrawn the $1. Instead they 'reserve' $1 in your bank account. i.e. If your bank account has a balance of $100, then your "available balance" will drop to $99 for a couple/few days.

    • Does Kogan support voice over wifi?

      • +1

        No

        • Does any reseller on Vodafone network provide voice over wifi?

          • +1

@mnc: They don't have VoLTE either

    • Wouldn't people be better off with Amaysim 65GB at $15 with $10.5 Cash rewards cashback? Of course this assumes the same network reception which obviously on each individual's location. Amaysim is 28 days vs Kogan 30 days though

      • Kogan:
        $4.90 for 40GB over 30 days = $0.1633 per day, or $0.1225 per GB

        Amaysim:
        $15 - $10.50 = $4.50 for 65GB over 28 days = $0.1607 per day, or $0.0692 per GB

So if everything else were equal then Amaysim is cheaper assuming nothing goes wrong with the cashback. But it also depends on how people plan to use it. Someone might want it for only the first month, and another person might want several SIMs. So it depends how easy is it to cancel before being charged for month 2, whether one person buy more than one SIM and/or receive more than one cashback, etc.

        • Agree - depends on the user requirements. Thanks for the detailed analysis - I find the calcs useful and was too lazy to work them out myself.

    • haven't seem this for a while, it used to be every second month this pops up.

      • If only, you looked a bit harder https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/590391

        • This thread has been modified into confusion a couple of times, so it depends which deal they were referring to. But the $14.90 one was listed every couple/few months, and the $4.90 one was ongoing but wasn't listed on here for a couple of months. The $4.90 post was marked expired but was still available until a few days ago Kogan changed its URL.

    • So how frequently are people able to sign up for this as "new" customers?

      • It depends: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10443257/redir

i.e. If you plan to just use the new phone number on the SIM packet then each new number/SIM is a "new customer"… But if you want to port the same number over and over then you have to be ported away for 31 days before that same number gets classed as 'new' again.

    • +1

Great. I got a card. USING THE PORT over deals I am averaging $10 p.month for 30gb data.

No nore paying $45/month postpaid contracts

      • Can you cope using one number for incoming and a second for outgoing calls?

        I have:

        • 1x "As You Go" Amaysim plan for incoming calls only, which costs $10 a year to keep active.
        • Kogan $4.90 SIMs for data and outgoing calls.

People call me on the Amaysim number and I call out using Kogan SIMs. That means I pay:

        • $10 per year for the Amaysim permanent number ($0.833 per month)
        • $4.90 per Kogan 40GB SIM ($4.968 per month)

So if for example you only needed 30GB per month and a permanent number, you could get 1x Amaysim "As You Go" plan for incoming calls and 1x Kogan SIM for unlimited (national) outgoing calls. Making your monthly cost $0.833 + $4.968 = $5.801.

Activate each new Kogan SIM on the last day before the previous one expires or runs out of data. Kogan SIMs take 7-10 days to arrive in the mail. So keep at least one spare ($2 from a garage). You can activate the spare SIM as soon as the activation code arrives in your inbox (minutes in business hours). When the mailed SIM arrives keep it for next time.

And if like me you sometimes forget to activate the next Kogan SIM before the first one expires or runs out of data, just activate it using Amaysim. This can make the Amaysim plan cost more but it's only about 20MB to activate a Kogan SIM, and Amaysim deducts 7.2c/MB from your $10 yearly credit. That's about $1.44 per activation so you might not pay any extra. i.e. Your yearly $10 covers about 7x forgotten Kogan activations.

Having two SIMs on two different networks also means you have emergency calls/internet if one network falls over (Kogan = Vodafone, and Amaysim = Optus). Set Amaysim to auto debit Paypal and you'll probably never get stuck without phone/internet access.

        • Don't your coworkers/family/friends get annoyed when they keep getting calls from different numbers and you always have to tell them "Hey it's me Faulty Pixel!"???

          • @Blue Cat: Government, employment, etc will eventually mail you when they can't contact you and friends get used to it. If they don't and get annoyed might be time for new friends. :-D You do always have Amaysim credit though (or the SIM would be deactivated). So if it's someone who blocks unknown numbers I just send them an SMS first: "Faulty about to call you on a new SIM."

            • @[Deactivated]: Or turn off sending the caller id so the receiver just sees private number. This is a big advantage of dual sim phones.

              • @BargainBenno: I have tried calling like sim support company on the caller id off, they were still able to lookup my phone number (the one being used to call them-was Optus sim calling Optus support)

              • @BargainBenno: Many people these days won't answer numbers they don't recognise. They're even less likely to answer private numbers.

  • Thanks, ordered the 90 days plan for my routin SIM whoring!
