  • If you are already on one of these plans with Kogan, can you switch to another network and switch back to this?

    • +6

Yes, other members have said you have to be ported out for 30 days to be considered a new customer.

      • Thanks for the info

      • +1

I've been able to switch straight back same day, but I got lucky. Usually it's 30 days as mentioned.

  • Would this work on recharging on existing user? I know it says new users only, but recall kogan had some batch can do recharge.

    • +2

      No

  • +2

Kogan refused to accept me a new customer after 28 days with a different provider

    • +2

      Yep it's 30 days.

    • 31 days if memories serve

  • +2

Very slow sim delivery. Likely to arrive after xmas.. Still waiting for mine from last deal.

    • Just get one from a servo if you need it that quick

  • damn i need a new customer offer, not a port. Any good 90 days deals around?

    • Belong $25 Starter Pack for $10 will last 30 or 90 days but it's only 12GB.

      • +1

        Thanks that's plenty

      • -1

Vodafone $30 starter kit better option

        • How so?

          • @huntress_love: Vodafone was doing $30 starter kit on groupon for $8(cheaper with the use of shopback/cashback) a few months back, and before that it was doing it for $10 @coles supermarket ( with a $5 coles giftcard, hence costing $5 only really)

            i bought both

Activated 1 only (from coles mobile one for $10) They added a $60 bonus to my account for no reason and then a further

$5 to my account with free 2 day weekend data due to the recent network outage.

I never really used that sim after the first month.

Still ended up being a good deal for me at the end

  • Only one per cart, had to do 2 orders FYI

  • Great deal.

  • Have they changed their policies again?
Tried to port in from Telsim and they refused, citing multiple porting !!!

They said it is only for new user to try their network!!

    • I just ported over yesterday. Have been their “new” customer quite a few times. They activated for me over the phone as my voucher code was coming up invalid. No issues with activating it or even asking me if I had done this multiple times.

Did you port via their website or via a phone call with their help line?

      • Both !!! the website system refused the voucher

When you call you are at the whims of the operator, if they are nice or if you catch them on a good day, they will manually do it but

technically, their computer system is set up to reject.

        • you might need to wait for 31 days and the system should activate it for you

  • What are people bouncing between these days? I used to cycle between catchconnect and Kogan but haven’t seen any catchconnect deals for a while. I went over to belong for a bit but since they stopped allowing the double data on sign up it’s not as useful for me to maintain the low cost.

    • Am wondering this too. What have you done so far? Am patiently waiting for catch 90days 60gb as well

      • I was doing the same. Wasnt there some story that Catchconnect were going to stop offering the 3 month deal?

  • If it's not for porting, ie. Activate, use, discard, activate new sim, are you considered a new customer each time you activate a new sim/number?

    • +1

When you activate a NEW number, you are considered a NEW customer
BUT YOU are limited to 4 prepaids with Kogan

(Not sure about "discarding" i think the number is still valid for 6-12 months)

      • Thanks for explanation and additional information about the 4 sim limit :)
With the discard I wasn't sure how to describe it. I think I can stop auto recharge and let it expire (or similar) on its own.

      • +1

Does Kogan actually enforce the 4 number limit? I know people with at least 10 active Kogan numbers. They just sign up to a new $4.90 one every month.

        • NOT sure if they check but be aware that it is TOTAL prepaids and NOT just with Kogan

They make you check the box as declaration, so who knows if it comes back to bite you

          • @[Deactivated]: Is it legislation/regulation though that states you can only hold 4 accounts? If so, I'd like to read it. Not sure if it's actually illegal or a telecom policy. Also, I don't think it's a declaration, it's a question when going through activation. I didn't look closely but didn't see anywhere about declaration?

  • +9

Just a heads up to turn OFF automatic reloads and delete your credit card via the app
This is on by default and when the period ends they charge $50 for your next month

    • That's the catch isn't it? So setup a new account using app delete all credit card details turn off auto-renewal, maybe even give them a junk email so doesn't matter if they spam you

  • Duplicate or not hehe, Kogan did have their 5% off the 40GB deal, got 6x hehe

    Still NOT arrived yet

    • +1

My 5 arrived on Friday. Shouldn't be too much longer.

  • If you're prepared to wait and wait then get this deal. I purchased 8 days ago and still not arrived yet. Not happy.

    • +1

I got the voucher code within 20 minutes. Try calling them or check spam

      • Got the voucher straight away through email. I'm just waiting on the SIM card through the mail.

        • +1

Oh that! Thats very slow, took a month for me. The one I ordered for 2$ afterwards took a week. The free ones are extremely slow.

  • They been offering good value but only thing they missing is international calls. It's strange they don't have any plans with international calls. Same one platform for last couple of years or even more.

  • +2

bought this yesterday, I ported from amaysin at about 4pm and it took like 2mins. Fantastic.

  • Bought on Tuesday sim arrived Friday ported from Telstra on Saturday took less than 10 mins

    • Lucky you, purchased last Wed and still no sim. :|

  • Hey, anyone can confirm the expiry date is actually 28/02/2022 ? not a typo of 28/02/2021?

    • It does NOT matter, screenshot it and Uprise for False Advertisement, if they change heh

    • you are asking because you wanna activate just before it expires right? True ozbargainer spirit

  • Hi guys after the 90 days period what is the cheapest way to keep Sim active as in number active but not recharging? I only want to receive calls

Do I need port back to Aldi mobile?

    • As timhn said below:
Aldi have $5 starter sim, with 365 days expiry, but it's then $10 for second year, if I'm not mistaking, I have done this before a few years back.

Amaysim has $10 for same, I was also with them a while back.

Best to double this is still the case.

  • I purchased a $2 woolsworth sim last time to port over and had to recharge $10 to activate the sim beforehand. Are there any cheaper alternatives to port over?

    • +1

      Aldi have $5 starter sim.

  • When does this expire? It's only showing the voucher expiry these days.

  • Sorry my phone went crazy with the last comment. Has anyone got a new number from kogan and used this deal? Or is it limited to people who port from another provider?

    • +1

I grabbed one and unfortunately it was port only.

  • The $5 sim seems to be out of stock. Is that correct?

    • +1

Yes. In the past it's taken anything from a couple to several days to reappear.

In the meantime these are available:

      Coles (in store only)
Normally $30, but on sale for $12 and includes first recharge
      40GB
      Vodafone
      Limit 1 per customer
      Available until 2nd Feb
I think this one has to be activated within 28 days of purchase

      Woolworths (in store only)
Normally $40, but on sale for $12 and includes first recharge
      50GB
      Vodafone
      Limit 3 per customer
      Available until 2nd Feb
Must be activated within 6 months of purchase

Both are for 3 recharges of that same amount of data. But I think the 2nd and 3rd recharge will be full price ($30/$40). If I'm wrong someone correct me. i.e. I don't think month 2 & 3 will be $10 or $12 like month 1 was.

So buy a couple/few at $10/$12, activate and use for the first month, then discard instead of recharging. Repeat with SIM #2. (But remember, I think the Coles one expires on day 28 after purchase.)

And to bypass the purchase limits go through the checkout multiple times.

Oh and after using up 50GB on the WW one, you get unlimited data for the rest of the month at the lower speed of 1.5Mbps, which = 0.1875 MB per second, which = 10.73 MB per minute, which = 643.68 MB per hour.

Coles also has Boost (Telstra), $15, 48GB, Limit 1 per customer, Activate by 29 Mar, on sale until 2 Feb.

And yes I was just doing the sums for myself which I why I have all the figures lol.

      • Coles (in store only)
Normally $30, but on sale for $12 and includes first recharge

$8 at 7-Eleven using their app

        • Wish there was one near me. Is there a limit of 1x there too? Might be worth the distance if I can buy several.

      • Hey mate, thanks a lot for this write up… as kogans $5 ones currently out of stock in struggling to want to pay more then $15 for a month for 40 gig… think the woolies one might work out better then Kogan

        • Don't forget there's this as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/598299

The same person can buy multiple SIMs too. So $10 each SIM, per month, for 3 months, for 70GB. Then back to full price. So cancel after month 3 recharge (before they charge you for month 4).

      • Unless the thing changed it does t mention unlimited anymore and it’s not 50gb….

        • +1

Hm… If you mean the $12, 50GB, Vodafone SIM, it's still showing in their current catalogue with the same details I typed above.

          1. Go to www.woolworths.com.au
          2. Down the screen a bit click on "Browse Catalogue"
          3. Click "Read Catalogue" under the first catalogue
          4. Type "Vodafone" into the top search box and hit ENTER
          5. Then click the picture showing the $12 50GB SIM and this pops up:

"– 50GB for the first 3 recharges + infinite data:"
"– First use 50GB then infinite data at speeds of up to 1.5Mbps until your recharge expires"

Where did you see the changes?

          • @[Deactivated]: Ah I misunderstood/read. Thought u meant woolworths sim and not referring to Vodafone at woolies… I bought the $9 Vodafone ones for 40g instead of $50

            • +1

@Splashtash: I never saw those. They did have 50GB on Optus for $10 which ended two days ago. A checkout guy told me at closing time Tuesday night they'd still be available Wednesday morning (I wanted to check the t&cs before buying). But next morning it had ended. They tried to override the price down to $10 because of what that guy told me, but it wouldn't let them. So I had to pay $12.

    • +6

$4.90 sim back in stock . Yay!

  • Thanks OP, bought this while I wait for a new Telstra deal.

  • Voucher code only works for porting number over.

You can't use the number on the SIM package….

    • +1

i ported over one of my expired, but still connected amaysim numbers

  • Thanks OP, my Boost yearly one expired a few days ago and I was sussing a few deals, happy to wait for a bit, but in the end have a fair few important calls this week, for a fiver, this is perfect timing. Cheers!

  • I don't think the new $4.90 for 40gb is for porting over only also valid for new customers. Bring your number or get a new one. Great deal with a long exiry date of March 3022. Can someone confirm please.

  • Does your number still last for a year after the 30 day expiry? And can still receive calls and texts for a year?

    • +1

No, Kogan is pretty short. Something like 20 days to still receive calls and text, and 90 days (so 70 additional days) when the number is kept and can port out.

Look at amaysim for 1 year, and Optus for 6 months for longer periods of receiving calls/text without recharge.

  • Not sure if I’ve missed it but can we just keep our existing number or Does it have to be a new Kogan number

    • +1

Port-in so you can either keep the current number or use the new one on SIM pack.

    • I have not tried it myself but going from the comments and conditions the 90 day deal is for only porting in from another provider. the 30 day deal has different conditions.

    • +2

Just ordered mine, they sent me the email with the voucher code within 5min of payment.
      Says:

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEST on 28/02/2022.

2022 :)….gives me time to activate later this year - I can join amaysim's $75 deal for 6 months in the next few weeks, then churn to Kogan after 6 months- so my 2021 is paid off :)

      • Thank you! I was supposed to buy Kogan $14.9, but I read you posts and your plan is excellent. I will join amaysim $75 plan then Kogan $14.9 one. My 2021 is paid off as well :)
BTW, I purchased the amaysim's $75 plan and got $35 cashback confirmation email from CashRewards, even better :D

  • I presume you can buy the sim from a store if in a hurry and just redeem the voucher on that sim?

    • +2

      Yes you can do that.

  • Does this include international phone calls?

    • No it doesn't

  • Thanks OP.

Just ported out from circles now, surprisingly major issues except the missing LW in the account #, oddly when I entered my Circles account # on activation page it said error, use numeric only, if I recall correctly.

Called Kogan support, not on hold long and in a few mins they fixed it, was told port can take up to 24 hours, barely 3 mins and port was done.
Also joined up with Felix to use for the free month then will suspend it, so plenty of data.

  • +3

    Beware

By default Kogan are selecting $5 Express delivery. Make sure you select Free delivery

  • always a good option when you need 40GB of data.

  • +1

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-prepaid-voucher-co…

Now this link says "New customer only"
Does that mean, it not necessarily for Port over?
My current Kogan plan is finishing soon and I would like to buy this one where I don't mind a new phone number.

    • nope, you definitely have to port over from another provider. i've tried reloading an existing kogan prepaid with the voucher they send you and it doesn't work.

  • Lol add kogan first trial to the cart and ADD THE APPLOVE CODE to your first app order then KOGAN WILL PAY YOU 10 CENTS TO BUY THE $4.90 SIM DEAL.

So you gain 10 cents for buying the $4.90 deal

  • The $4.90 deal link no longer working?

    • Yeah I think they realized they were having to pay people 10 cents for buying the sim plan

      • You think it costs them $5.00 to put this deal up and break even?

        • You need factor in all the costs,

Shipping + sim production cost + paper + mobile data + unlimited call and texts cost.

Don't get me wrong but the shipping just itself is like at least $1(express shipping costs more ofcourse but it is free with kogan first) to them I think, and so would the sim and voucher generation cost or papers etc combined perhaps another $1, and I am sure that the actual worth of voucher 40 GB data, and unlimited call and texts, is worth more than $3 to them.

So perhaps in my opinion it probably costs kogan like $10 or something for the sim and voucher (excluding the support, labour/employee costs)

          • @USER DC: @ozhunter68 the $4.90deal is still on

Kogan Mobile Prepaid Mobile Starter Pack

            https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-sim-prepaid-starte…

            • @USER DC: They just changed the item link aka created a new refreshed item/listing

            • @USER DC: Thanks. Had a quick look and could not see it.

Does not look like anyone has posted this old updated deal on here yet with correct link?

Can't read anything about having to port which is nice, so new number or port please yourself.
