Convert 1000 flybuys Points to 500 Velocity Points (Improved Rate) with Auto-Transfer

150

Converting 2,000 Flybuys points usually nets 870 Velocity points, but you can get 1,000 instead by turning on auto transfer. Just remember to turn it off at the end of January (or even straight away) to not be forced onto the reduced rate.

This is equivalent to the usual semiannual 15% transfer offer.

Additionally, until the end of January, you can get Triple Velocity Status Credits for every eligible $100 spent (up to 30 Status Credits per month) and Triple Flybuys points on fresh fruit and veg at Coles (online and in-store) if the auto-transfer is active.

Terms and conditions:

If you've linked your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership to your Flybuys household account, you can choose to manually transfer a minimum of 2,000 Flybuys points at a time to receive 870 Velocity Points per 2,000 Flybuys points transferred to Velocity. Or, during the promotion period between Mon 7 Dec and Sun 31 Jan 2021, you can turn on Auto Transfer and if you choose to do this, your entire existing Flybuys points balance (to the highest multiple of 1,000 Flybuys points) will be automatically transferred to your linked Velocity account to receive 500 Velocity Points per 1,000 Flybuys points transferred to Velocity, and every 1,000 Flybuys points you subsequently collect will be automatically transferred into 500 Velocity Points. The standard Auto Transfer earn rate outside of the promotion period is 870 Velocity Points for every 2,000 Flybuys points automatically transferred to Velocity. From Sun 1 Nov 2020, the annual transfer limit of 138,000 Flybuys points (60,030 Velocity Points) has been removed, meaning there's no limit to the amount of Flybuys points you can transfer to Velocity. Only one Velocity membership can be linked to a Flybuys household at any one time. To turn on Auto Transfer, the full name and date of birth on your Flybuys household account and linked Velocity membership must match. You can de-link or manage your linked accounts at any time at partners.flybuys.com.au/velocity-frequent-flyer/. Visit flybuys.com.au/transfer to manually transfer your Flybuys points. Alternatively, to turn on Auto Transfer, visit partners.flybuys.com.au/velocity-frequent-flyer/ and sign in to your Flybuys account then turn your Auto Transfer preference to 'On'. This selection will apply to all members under that specific Flybuys household account. You can turn your Auto Transfer preference to ‘Off' at any time and will still be able to manually transfer your Flybuys points to Velocity.

Please allow up to 48 hours for Velocity Points to be credited to your linked Velocity account and for your Flybuys points balance to be updated. Once Flybuys points have been redeemed for Velocity Points they can't be returned to your Flybuys account. Standard Flybuys terms and conditions apply to the collection of Flybuys points. Velocity membership Terms and Conditions apply.

  • Does velocity still have their classic rewards flight equivalent since the new acquisition.

Stoked i didn't panic transfer all my velocity points in March. Was very close to pulling the trigger, but VA now looking like its going to make a nice comeback.
Thanks OP, good deal, will activate.

Isn't this just a sign that the points are about to be devalued with VA?
Wish I could setup the transfer without transferring my current 400K points. Doesn't suit me until VA has connections to Europe again
    Thanks for post OP

Also, can anyone let me know if there is a way to book with velocity points outside Virgin. Example If I want a business class ticket return SYD-LHR with Etihad, can I book on the partner's site. I know Virgin will starting flying long haul in the future (ordered some 787), but don't want to transfer if I can't use them

As far as I know, you can't book international flight redemptions at the moment. Previously you could use Velocity points to book with airline partners and I would think this ability will return as things get back to normal(ish).

    • how did you score 400k flybuys ?

      • I never use them. I have the coles MasterCard and they just keep building up. I also pay everything with my card, including my rent

        • and shop at coles too I guess ?

@Gooddeal21: Sometimes. Mostly Aldi. I use to get 3 points for every $1, I spent on anything, which is how they built up so much. I think I get 2 now per $1, since my account was sold to citibank

Can you still convert Velocity points to Krisflyer ?

    • +2

No, they are no longer "football friends". Might return later.

    People still have Velocity points?

    • and they're stoked about it!

A lot less risky to just use your Flybuys points for purchases at Coles, Liquorland, Target etc. I lost 400k points when Ansett went belly up. I wouldn't be risking that again by converting FB points to Velocity - even with the better conversion rate. In a worst case scenario, that's just more points I'd lose if they go belly up before I got a chance to use them. However, YMMV, especially if flying soon and Velocity points worth more to you than Flybuys..
