Get 10% Cashback Every Saturday in December (Max $30 Back Per Transaction) Using Tap & Pay @ Zip

8761

There seems to be a lot of confusion based on the comments so let me try and clarify how this works:

  1. Sign up to Zip Pay. Not Zip Money. You can use the 'Related Offers' at the bottom of this description for new signup options. Note that you must provide your email address or phone number if you want a referral, there’s no referral link and you can’t be referred without that info!
  2. Download the Apple or Android app and sign in with your details. You will need a smartphone with NFC.
  3. Go to the "Cards" tab within the Zip app. Click on Add to Apple Wallet (or Google Wallet if using android).
  4. Go to any store that accepts tap & go on credit/debit cards. Do not ask if they accept Zip Payment as this is a separate payment method.
  5. Purchase anything (any gift cards, services, goods, literally anything) and checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay by tapping your digital Zip card on Saturday. Do not spend more than $300 in one transaction if you want to maximise your benefit as you won't get 10% back above $300!
  6. You should see the rewards balance reflected under "Rewards" within the "Your Zip" tab of the app immediately.
  7. Once you have reached $30 in credit, click on the redeem button to apply the credit to your account.
  8. Pay off your Zip account by linking a credit card to earn points and defer payment (The screen says debit card but many have confirmed credit cards to work as well - Amex will not work). It takes 3 days for processing payments to finalise and you cannot make additional payments sooner than that.
Things to note:
  • Applying for a Zip account will trigger a credit check.
  • Redeemable once you've reached $30 in credit (I.e. Min spend $300)
  • Rewards balance will continue accruing even if you don't redeem $30.
  • There's no daily limit. The only limit is your credit limit.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don't have a $100 tap and pay limit like normal cards. The limit is unlimited since you biometrically authenticate yourself at the time of payment.
  • You cannot prepay your zip account via BPAY so that it goes into credit. I contacted Zip and they informed me that since they’re not a bank they’re not allowed to hold deposits. If you prepay your account you will be breaching their T&Cs and your account may get blocked. It will take a few days to unblock. Do so at your own risk, some have reported success while others have confirmed they got blocked.
  • You cannot make payments online.
  • Max $30 back per transaction.
  • Excludes Westfield gift cards purchased from Westfield
  • On days other than Saturday, you can still earn 3% or 5% cash back that will accrue towards your rewards balance.
  • Within a twenty-four (24) hour period, you (a) are limited to redeeming your Reward Goal eight (8) times, and (b) will not earn any further credit back if you spend $4,000 or more.
  • 10% back on Super Saturdays will override all other cashback offers with lower % back.
  • By end of 8 January 2021, any credit back that has not reached the Reward Goal will be cancelled.

  • Just want to confirm, if I pay my zip balance via my linked anz credit card through zip app, there is no fee, right? Or, do I have to BPAY zip from my credit card to avoid cash advance fee?

    • I can confirm that ANZ does not treat it as a cash advance - only did it this month, but I can see that reward points have been paid out on the transaction, which would not be the case for a cash advance, and no cash advance fee was charged.

    • I used my standard Anz issue visa and didn’t get any cash advance

  • +1

Answer to your first question is ‘yes’.

  • I thought $100 is maximum if doing tap n pay. Please correct me if am wrong.

    • +1

You can do $300 with Apple Pay. No problem.

      • What about google pay as i sure want to use more than $100 in one go tomorrow i dont have iphone or apple pay.

        • Fine with google pay also.

        • The $100 thing is that (pre-COVID) you needed to put in a PIN to authorise tap and pay transactions, not that you couldn't do them.

With COVID, to reduce contact, they increased the limit to $200 with no PIN entry required.

So $300 is fine, but you'll need to put in a PIN to authorise it.

          • @ely: Odd neg?

            • @ely: $700+ without PIN. It was 3% cashback for up to $1k purchase, before this 10% cashback deal.

              • -1

@Neoika: Seems to be $200; talking about tap and pay limits, not Zip limits (no idea what they are, or how non tap and pay zip payments even work - only ever used tap and pay).

    • +2

Wrong. I'm not sure what the limit is but have made multiple $300 payments using tap n pay with this deal. Suspect if you did go too high tap n pay still works it'll just ask for a PIN.

      • +1

That's correct. I recall I received an email from Google some time ago that due to COVID-19 the max tap & pay amount without entering your pincode was raised to $200.

    • I've done $500 at bunnings with gpay

  • Anyone know when you sign up to zip pay for first time with the $15 sign up are you given any info you qualified or will get it? Only when you use zip for first time you will find out then.
And does it take 14 days like it says from the time you first use zip or instant.

    • If u clicked the link to sign up should be no prob. Signed up sat. Got it Tuesday

      • Clicked the link and signed up before last weekend, still haven't got it.

Edit: filed a support ticket now to confirm that mine was correctly registered for the promo and that the payment is going to be eventually credited. Terms and conditions say up to 14 business days.

Prezee doesn’t seem to be working with Apple Pay Zip card anymore. Tried a small amount today (even though it’s only 3%) to see if it’s been patched. YMMV!

    • What was the result? You bought the gift card but it didn’t accrue towards your next $30 goal?

      • I had a go, worked just fine.

        • Can you pls explain how you did it? It does not give the option of paying by google pay, only asks for credit card details.

  • Does anybody know if Australia post will be open on boxing day (26th Saturday)?

  • Thepeferctgiftcard vs only1visa which one is better, easier to use/check balance?

    • only1visa sucks. u need to register each card to check balance. most stupid ever

      • If you buy the physical card instore (and activated), you don’t need to. The one they want you to register is the virtual card version.

        • Where can I buy Thepeferctgiftcard?Tried looking at Woolies but can't find.

          • @yanlianglee: Which means it’s sold out. Try going around at Coles/Woolies in your area.

  • Fyi, there are restaurant gift cards on bonus points promo at woolies.

    • How much bonus and which ones?

  • How come Zip and Tap didn't work on my mobile?

    • It worked on mine, do you have your tap and pay set up and then have the zip card as the default?

      • I thought I have, I pressed Pay Instore, then in store barcode

        • +2

If you’re seeing a barcode it means you’re not using Tap and Pay.

          • @bargainbro: Sorry, what should I do?

            • @Yaren24: You need to set it up as a card in Apple / Google Pay, more info here, then you just pay using Apple / Google Pay and it'll debit from your Zip account.

              • @ely: So do you mean using Google Pay to pay for items instead of using Zip app?

                • @Yaren24: Correct. Zip provides a virtual credit card which is added to Google or Apple Pay, allowing you to pay anywhere that accepts them (which is pretty much anywhere that accepts tap and pay). The payment is Google/Apple Pay, but it comes out of your Zip account.

I've only recently signed up, and have never used Zip's app to pay for anything, only the tap and pay way :D

As a bonus, you should get an extra $10 credit from Zip if you haven't done this before.

                  • @ely: Anyone knows how to setup the limits of repayment?

                    • @Yaren24: Not sure what you mean.

                      • @ely: setup the limit to ppay it back, like XXX amount per week

                        • +1

@Yaren24: Ah - I have no idea, it sounds like their auto payment system is designed in such a way as to make you pay the monthly fees, but I haven't really looked into it yet - for the purposes of maxing out this 10% thing I just pay in full as soon as I can.

It's unclear to me whether you have to zero out your balance by the end of the month to avoid fees, or just pay off the last month's balance to avoid fees (like a credit card).

Perhaps a longer term Zip user can fill us on the best payment strategy to maximise interest free periods but also achieve zero fees?

Edit: it looks like if you pay off the last month's balance in full by the end of the next month you'll pay no fees (source). Good if someone could confirm this though, and also explain how their auto debits can achieve this - if they would debit my CC on the last day of each month that would be perfect.

                          • +1

@ely: Yes, debits on the last day. If the payment amount you specify is more than what you've spent, they'll only debit what's owing. I've set the monthly payment amount to equal my credit limit, no fees that way.

                            • @neilpatrickharris: Thanks Neil - so you can pick the date, and it's a fixed amount? You can't just say to pay the amount in full like you can with a credit card direct debit?

  • +3

Bought 3x300 cards on Prezzee no problem. iOS Apple Pay still works.

However now I’ve pretty much maxed my credit and can’t pay it off until it goes off pending oh nooooo

    • I’ve been buying up over time, but it’s been hit and miss. $300 definitely won’t go through. $200 one time, $100 and $50 definitely.

That’s on the smart eGift card at least.

      • Prezzee with Apple Pay no problem via app

        • Yeah I'm doing it via Apple Pay in Prezzee app. But in all the experimenting with different gift card amounts, there's definitely something in the background preventing me going above $100 each time.

          • +1

            @eyebrows7: Strange.
I plan to buy another 1000 worth on Monday after I get this paid off. 3% is no 10% but beats 0%

  • Forgot to bpay the $1000 to get ready for today. Anyone know of a workaround to ge the balance back quickly for spending?

    • +2

Not allowed to top up over 1k. See op

    • Link debit card and pay off the balance owing.

    • Pay via the debit card u saved while setting up zippay. That should be instant payment. (Just make sure your debit card account has enough balance)

      • The payment is instant, but you can only pay once the merchant has processed the transaction, which is overnight at best (and generally 2-3 days).

      • I actually can’t work out how to do this

        • +1

Clarify if u already have cleared purchases or it’s stuck in pending. If all in pending u cannot pay until cleared. Which can be up to 3 day

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: All cleared :-)

            • @jaypeee: Click the wheel on right hand side -> Edit payment -> add a debit or credit card -> additional payment -> pay the amount and you are good to go.

              • @Maxdax: I don’t have ‘edit payment’ in my settings?!

                • @jaypeee: That’s weird - did you provide a debit card whilst account opening ? May have to contact support

  • wish i had an Iphone and buy from prezzee instead of going out, it's the 3rd week still not bothered.

    • +1

      iPad might work?

    • can you explain how does this work? download the prezzee app, and pay in the app using tap and zip?

  • Is approval for sign up instant or relatively quick? Will it be in time for use today?

    • +2

      Instant for me.

    • Instant

  • Prezzee loophole may be closed , tried but cant get through. Bought ozpost mastercard but would like something better. Any idea of better prepaid or eftpos? Thanks

    • How can you even buy Auspost Mastercard? You can only pay for this card using EFTPOS not credit card so Tap and Zip won't work.

      • I bought the prepaid mastercard with $5.95 activation fee not the 7.95. Did tap n worked. Tried 3 times buying prezzee as guest, failed.

So choice is perfectgiftcard vs 1visa, any inputs? Thanks

    • What makes u think it’s not working anymore

    • I just bought Amazon gift cards through Prezzee and it worked fine.

    • I just tried and it works no issues.

      • Did you get a Prezzee gift card?

        • Yes

        • Do you have to buy $100 ones as listed above in OP or any amount?

Edit: sorry just checked. Only available in $100 amounts!

  • -1

Realised that I dropped the ball buying 10% discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards directly from JB last weekend; should have bought the Only 1 Visa cards at 7.6% discount, then used them to pay for JB e-gift cards at Suncorp Rewards for a further 5% discount, total discount ~12% instead of 10%.

    • This still seems like a viable strategy to stack and get bigger discounts; does anyone have any experience with using Only 1 Visa cards at Suncorp Rewards (or any of the other providers on the discount gift card provider list)?

    • +2

Suncorp only accepts verified cards, excluding all prepaid (not verified/unable to verify) cards.

      • Thanks.

    • Have you tried buying jb with 1 visa? Thanks

  • Does mwave store in lidcombe accept zip tap and pay. Thinking of going there i have $300 worth of stuff to get.

    • They should, the Zip tap and pay is handled by Visa so anywhere that accepts Visa cards will accept Zip tap and pay.

    • Anything that accepts payWave basically can accept google/Apple Pay, where you put your Zip card as default payment in your mobile.

  • Does anyone know the best strategy of getting the most out of today's promo?

I have experience with the only1visa and warning you that I got surcharged 20% randomly on a restaurant order. Contacted the restaurant and they said it's not theirs. Only1Visa, Their customer service is lacking. I knew from checking my transactions online. But checking does nothing cause there's no one to help you. It was a "settlement fee".

    • Hah… I started to think it's not worth it to muck around with all risks and getting a measly less than 10% off.

      • Yeah which is why if you guys are going to by the visa gift cards, do it at your own risk.

        • Yep, ozpost mastercard also can't be used in some retailers.

        • I only bought this Only 1 VISA a few times since it changed the way to check balance. If you know where to use it for sure and wipe the balance out quick, it is worthwhile. Just to remember it is not a normal VISA card to be used at your will. Use it randomly for eating, shopping, etc. are not good ways, causing more headache to check balance than the saved amount.

Example in NSW without balance check: prepay council rates(set the amount down to a cent), Rego/CTP(if less than $500, the remaining small balance paid to Sydney Water/Energy provider right after).

          • @Neoika: Understandable however, they don't let you split payment for bills.

            • @PeeDee: Energy AU allows you to pay minimum 10 cents each time. Forget about the small card fee of 0.36%. Prepay it and save headache to manage the cards.

Sydney Water charges no fee through PayPal and it can be added to PayPal to use.

              • @Neoika: That sounds promising. Doesn't PayPal apply surcharge for 'credit card'?

                • @PeeDee: NO. All the prepaid cards I used had no problems with PayPal. But only very few merchants may require verified cards in PayPal.
