7w LED Downlight Bulb Warm White or Cool White $12.50

200

Hi

We have a super special on our new MR16 range - 7w Supreme MR16 downlight bulb made in taiwan. Having the diffuser, we ensure your light gets distributed evenly across the room, just like a halogen would. I am not going to crap you and say its a 50w replacement, but I will tell you it is more like a 45w replacement which makes it a worthwhile investment without compromising too much on the light output. We have tested these on a lot of electronic transformers but we cannot guarantee it will work on all. It works well on your old iron core transformers and if you need a transformer, check out our efficient 60w Anchorn transformer. These work well on all our LED range and consume 0.3w sitting on idle.

Our lights have our own C-Tick number for your added comfort so stay away from those cheap imports

I guess these ones aren't dimmable on C-Bus?

    • it all depends on your dimmer. Works with some and not as well with others

      • Which dimmers does it work well with? I have a house full of clipsal trailing edge dimmers, and electronic transformers (and very few undimmed circuits).

    • +1

So are you stockpiling halogens like us?

  • My house is a bit new one but it still has got halogen down lights. I really wanted to change them to LED even before the structure of the house came up. But the builder was trying to rip me off for that change. so I decided to get what ever they give me and later change them to LED on my own.
Is it easy to change the existing halogen to LED just by changing the globe and reuse the same transformer? How do I find whether the existing transformer matches with the LED bulbs you sell? I can climb in manhole and check if anything is mentioned in the holders of the down lights.
Being a double story, is it possible to change the down lights in ground level ceiling easily ?
I have too many questions before jumping in and buy :) This might not be the place to ask these questions. But it's very helpful if someone who knows could answer.

    • These lights will work with most electronic transformers so what i suggest is you buy 2 to test it out and order the rest after your happy. You can always ring to discuss if you like :)

  • delivery 7$ kills it

    • pickup if your in sydney. I think $7 is reasonable and if you buy more than 10, it actually costs us more for delivery

  • Rip-off…

Until I saw the C-Tick :) Good deal :) I've been wanting to buy some but afraid of them having the possibility of catching alight. Do any of your customers notice a reduction in their power bill after fitting these?

    • Of course you will get a reduction in your power bill. 50w compared to 7w
Also in regards to our ctick, we are not a backyard company. We have all the necessary approvals and insurance

    • Guess I should explain further…

I know what c-tick is etc. I was afraid of buying some directly from China that didn't have it and the house burning down. Considering yours has c-tick I don't feel like that would be an issue. Good price since it's been approved

      • C-Tick has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with electrical safety, or things burning down.

        NOTHING!

        • Thanks for bringing that to my attention, some sites say it does, some say it doesn't. I'll make sure to go back and do some more research.

        • If a device does catch fire and the house burns down, will the insurance company point the finger at the non-c-tick device and refuse payment?

  • how much is postage? also do you guys have pickup?

    • +1

postage is $7 and pickup is at PICKUP 36/2 Railway Parade Lidcombe NSW. You can buy over the counter

      • what are the timings for the store?

        • +1

          9-4

      • +1

        Do you open at weekend?

  • I see lots of halogen replacement lamps, but I really want proper dedicated LED lamps that can be wired in series, and several run in one room from a single (variable/dimmable) constant-current supply.
Thus avoiding the heat and inefficiency of a separate power supply in each lamp, and ensuring proper ventilation for cooling.
Why don't you sell such things?

    • +1

For a 7W output, a step-down switchmode will typically be in the 80-85 percent efficiency range. A large switchmode supply supplying (say) 140W for twenty lamps will also be in the 80-85 percent efficiency range, so you won't be saving any extra on power. The larger power supply will probably need a fan to get rid of the 30W or so of heat, so you now have to power a fan for the larger supply, making efficiency worse. The smaller supplies don't need a fan for their 1.5W of heat.

Also, as most LED dimming systems use pulse-width modulation, you now have a large loop of cable radiating the PWM signal, causing RF interference. With a small power supply at each bulb, the RF-emitting part of the wiring is only centimeters long, and there will be much less RF interference.

Using multiple lamps in series is possible if a linear current regulator is used instead of a switchmode, but then you need a settable pre-regulator to supply a couple of more volts than your LED chain needs. While that could be done, it's not something your average home handyman could set up, and that's probably why you can't find them to buy.

      • From my experience as a salesman, when most customers say "in series", they actually mean parallel. I don't know why anyone would want to put globes in series, as all the globes on that circuit would stop working if one globe dies.

        • Yes, series is mostly used just for christmas tree lights.
It makes sense for LEDs though, as they are very low voltage and do not blow.
          Much easier to supply 18V @ 2A than 3V @ 12A, especially when you want constant-current regulation.
Good for dimming too. (PWM is evil.)

        • I would also recommend parallel as well.

  • +1

Wont vote neg, but cannot recommend them. I got these last time they were up on ozBargain http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49160 . Installed and found that they interfered with TV reception, emailed them asking for suggestions/assistance and never received a response. I have not used them since, so total waste of $$$ for me.

    • -7

Champ i did respond and asked you what shielding you have on your antenna cable. You seems to have this problem no matter what light you bought (as per your whirlpool thread).

      • +3

Cant remember posting on Whirlpool "Champ"?? Not sure if I even have a login there, but feel free to send me the link to it though.

        • -6

really think you should check wiring

        • +2

I'm curious to see the link too…

  • +1

be careful that some of the LED lamps interfered with TV reception, e.g. when I turn my LEDs on, my TV lost almost all the channels, once I turn the LEDs off, TV signals back to normal

    • +24

That reduces the amount that you watch TV, resulting in further power savings :-)

    • +2

Talk to your girl friend - she must have wired it like that!

    • Interference is usually caused by the transformer not being matched to the globe, or the length of the wire between the transformer and the globe. It's not always a simple matter of changing a halogen globe with an LED globe. Electronic transformers also have a minimum load requirement that changes from one type of transformer to another. Most need to have at least a 10W load, and some 20W, so if you use one of these 7W globes per transformer, you will likely have problems.

I bought 16 of these LED type downlights from ebay http://stores.ebay.com.au/LINLIN-HOUSE?_rdc=1

I think it was around the $11~ each mark with free delivery. I bought them to replace all of my standard HOT 50W halogen down lights. Because I have a relatively low ceiling, having all of the 50W lights on presented a huge problem during summer! The 6W LED lights gave me about the same brightness without the HEAT! I've yet to analyze the power bill savings but c'mon… 6W compared to 50W X 16 globes? Should be a significant saving right?

    • When did you buy these? i.e. I want to know how long they have lasted so far with what kind of usage/stress.

  • Oh one thing to look out for, I do have some LED globes that flicker (may not be noticeable to some). I think it is due to my outdated transformer, this flickering only happens in the hallway (i've swapped globes around and to no effect).

    • try switching to an iron-core transformer, that'll almost definitely fix it.

  • just thought you should know, the photo on the MR16 Warm White page is of a GU10 bulb. Could be confusing to customers.

    • thanks

      • BTW, how would you rate the color rendition of the warm white bulb? I've tried some warm whites that add a sickly tinge to colors.

        • i know what you mean. You have a Warm white which borders on the cool white range and some warm whites that go towards a more yellowish look. This is 2700k and looks like a warm white

When I see a hot blonde holding cash in one hand, a light bulb in the other is unexpected.

    • Hmm, tough decision, light bulb, blonde or cash. :)

      • +1

Hold the light bulb above the blondes head to make her feel smart and like shes had an idea. Then give her the cash like an ordinary prostitute! Then the decision should be easy.

    I can't say about this brand so I won't +ve or -ve it. Here's my 5c.

Regards to LED's I would stick to the big brands, phillips/GE/Osrams etc.

From my experience there is so much LED 'crapware' in the market(not this brand, as I've never tried, but in general), i just like people to be wary of all the 'questionable marketing' that goes on behind a lot of the LED product out there.

A few deficiencies i've noticed with a lot of dodgy LED product.

    • Not enough heat sinking, and or bad heatsink placement which could cause a variety of issues.
    • Crap drivers/control gear, LED is not a bulb anymore its a piece of hardware, so even if the LED chip is rated at 50-60 thousand hours, if the control gear/drivers are poor quality and say lasts 20 thousand hours, it's only going last as long as the hardware running it.
    • Poor shielding, which could be causing inteference with other equipment.
    • Light output not as bright as advertised as LED is a focussed light, the lumins output will still generally be less than traditional bulbs.
    • A lot of cowboys in the market, not enough sheriffs. Like i said, so much crap out there, hopefully with the new MEPS LED standards coming in, a lot of these 'wholesalers' will be kicked out of the market.

Hence with the last point, i always get the bigger brands, as they'll always warrant and follow up their products.

Good that this mob at least got a c-tick approval :)

I saw some Philips MR16 and GU10 LED bulbs at Masters. The color rendition of the warm white MR16 ones were awful - skin tones looked terrible. The Cree ones from Jaycar are a lot better.

Just a reminder for everyone - branded doesn't mean good. It might last longer, but it might look awful.

  • +1

I've been using LED bulbs for around a year now. I get them overseas for about $5 each. The older styles went after about three months, but the newer ones' design seem to be much better and I've had no issues since.

The ones in this thread look quite good to me. Even if they only last a few years, they are really worth it as they use very little electricity, produce very little heat (reducing the need for cooling and safer) and have very good quality light that is focused like halogen, unlike CFLs.

Looks like a good deal to me - especially if they are really made in Taiwan (I have my doubts.) They may be made by a Taiwanese company, but many of the factories in China are owned by Taiwanese…..

    • Hi. They are made in taiwan 100%

  • Just noticed that you can reply on them, so I'm thinking they must be wifi enabled with some kind of email software built in - cool!

  • -2

    is it region free?

  • +1

What's the combined shipping cost? Won't pay $7 shipping each for such a small item.

    • $7 total order of course

  • Why is the blonde holding american money? is she waiting for the aussie dollar to fall below parity again before swapping it over?

  • Someone above pointed out a 'wrong photo' for an item. There's an other item with an inconsistency in the description: http://www.energysaver.net.au/LED-Lighting-GU10/c11_15/p65/S…
The heading says and the photo shows GU10, but the specifications below it say 'MR16'.

Just a general question: with a rated life expectancy of 50,000 hours, how come there is only a 1 year warranty? Something like 3 years would inspire much more confidence in that rating (with 50k hours being nearly 6 years of 24/365 use).

    • 1 year warranty is pretty standard for anything.

Back when CFLs were $12, I wonder if you could walk back into Coles 1 year later saying your bulb died.

  • 60o makes this more of a spotlight then wide coverage?

    • The other way round.. 60 degrees is pretty much as wide as you can get with an MR16. The other options are usually 30-36 degrees.

  • can i buy them at lidcombe or order online first and pay to pickup?

  • no need to order online

pickup unit 36 - 2 railway pde lidcombe

  • I hate spam/ marketing psudo deals that slip through on ozbargain.

This is a rip off, I changed all lamps in house with 6w leds $4.95ea delivered from China on Ebay.
I bought 24, 2 failed and they sent free replacements without asking.

    Here they are.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/6W-Mr16-12V-Gu10-220V-E27-220V-3x2W-…

btw - exchange rate changed, now cost $5.40 ea but at that price who cares!!

    • You're not comparing similar spec globes. The ones you point to have 20% less luminance. The cool white ones come close, but they're not really cool white at 6,000K. Very harsh light.

  • can you tell me the operating hours at lidcombe, open on weekends?

I rather buy these taiwan ones for double the price.

    • 9-4 monday to friday as it says on there door

      • thks

        • Wish you would open weekends as well for easy collecting.

        • why not ring me to arrange pickup like others have done

    • Yeah great idea buying especially since it uses 110V power supply. Your comparing apples and pineapples

      • energysaver, since you're still replying to this thread - can you state which dimmers these are compatible with - you said above "Works with some and not as well with others"?

        • i am getting them tested next week on a variety of dimmers. what dimmer do you have?

        • clipsal trailing edge dimmers (for some reason I can't reply to your comment).

        • can you email me

  • I just bought some of these and the 9w ones.

What is it with retailers on this site not getting the shippping straight with the offer; second discrepancy tonight…

In this case shipping was $9 as opposed to $7 stated above so I reduced my order from 20 of each to 4 of each & won't "+" the deal.

Will let everyone on this thread know how I go with the product. From the pictures it looks good but I am confused about the description in the offer of "2 pins".

From what I understand it's MR16 and with a GX5.3 base to replace a "standard halogen" (as it appears in the picture I look at when I click link above [despite someone above saying that GU10 is pictured which I don't believe it currently is]) if it comes with a GU10 base then according to the wiki on MR16 that's not the one for me & in that case please email me instead so we can sort this out…..

    • I just ordered one warm white and a transformer tonight to test out. Shipping was $9 too - I wonder why.

Don't worry, you bought the right one. They've changed the GU10 photo, it's the correct one now. This is the sort of confusion i meant when i mentioned it above. :)

      • in regards to the post, we decided to charge an extra $2 so now, our customers will get it couriered via toll express or express post for added safety and quicker service

  • Ordered 12 of these. Replaced my MR16 German made Halogens and so far very happy. Arrived very quickly via Toll courier. The globes are packed very well and "look and feel" high quality.

There is no noticeable flicker or any of the interference as claimed above. I'm using electronic transformers (purchased 2008).

The "cool white" is just that so suitable for perhaps bathrooms and other areas where you may traditionally have had a bright white light. They're too harsh for a living room or bedroom environment. The warm light version is a better pick.

+1 from me. Very happy with this deal & purchase.
    Thank you :)

    • Hi

Im glad you enjoy it. We tested alot of lights and found the right product in the end

  • i hope this deal will run for some time. By not having the store open on weekends or by closing at 4 makes it very difficult for me to make it there.

Also do u do bulk discounts? i know some1 who is building and may need quiet a few. like 50-60

  • As stated brfore why not ring my 1300 number to arrange pick up after hours. Tell your friend that i can offer a package of a downliht fixture and a transorfer and a light for $21. That if for mr16 and Gu10 model
