    I'm tempted to get 2 x 16GB but I don't think I'd ever need more than 16GB. But it's a good deal …

Obviously, you haven't heard a program called 'Google Chrome'

      • +2

I've moved to Firefox, guess I can go back to Chrome if I do upgrade

        • If anything, it being dual rank should compensate for laptops being forced to use terrible JEDEC timings.

  • -1

    no DDR4-3200

    • i am also looking for it

    • +2

      Why is this being downvoted?

    • Yeah why is this getting down voted? I've been waiting for 16GB 3200 laptop ram deal for months!

  • Is the 8gb laptop one suitable for the acer gaming laptop from Harvey Norman that was posted last week?

    • +1

Do you mean the nitro ? If so, yes you can.

      • Yes. The $998 one. Thanks mate :)

  • will arrive in 30 days - certainly not in a week even if it is in AU

Anyone know if the 8GB one is suited for a Synology NAS (920+)?

    • -1

for server/NAS type use, ECC RAM is a better option.

      • +1

        920+ is non-ECC
        https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS920+#specs

According to the specs the max is 4GB+4GB.

It would be best to google for other experiences with trying more memory and for compatibility.

        • Thanks for that. I saw that ds920+ is non-ecc. The thing I'm not sure about is single or dual rank. I've seen comments saying dual rank is better and some NAS won't even recognise single.

            @pr0d1gy: I'm running an 8gb stick in a much older DS415+
Can't be certain but i think you'll have no issues.

As far as my experience with Synology's specs regarding upgrading… well the 415+ was a 2GB model with no upgrade path at all….. until someone tried it and it just worked.

I paid more attention to Intel's data for the CPU.
Interestingly Intel says the old 2013 model Atom C2538 supports 64GB, whilst the DS920's 2919 model Celeron J4125 only supports 8GB?

            Might indeed only support 1 x 8GB or 2 x 4GB

Seems odd that a much newer CPU supports much less ram.

    • +2

Someone has gotten it working in the 920+: https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/hg3mg5/8gb_ct8g4s…

  • Is there a cheap 16gb laptop version?

    • +1

      This is the laptop version

      • +1

I see. clicked the link- Thanks!

  • +4

Good memory is Crucial…….. I'm sorry.

  • +1

    Single ranked if anyone cared

  • +1

Always use 2 sticks of RAM for dual channel.

    • 16+8 would be okay on laptop?

      • +1

It's not ideal but it's fine. In an ideal scenario, both sticks would be identical.

However, 2 sticks will still perform better than 1. It will just slow down the faster stick to match the slower stick. It's hardly noticable.

        • +1

It will slow down to the clock speed of the slowest. Capacity won't matter.

  • Is this a good deal?
    My mobo supports 2666 max

    • +1

      What do you have now?

It's not a bad deal but you want to run ram in dual channel.

      • Thank for the reply

I currently have access to (from my old PC which had a bung motherboard and I will be replacing)

        G.Skill 2 x 8GB DDR4 2133 MHZ
        Thermaltake 2 x 8GB DDR4 3000 MHZ

No gaming. Just a productivity / work machine.

        • +2

If you don't plan on going to 64GB of ram, there really isn't a point in getting two sticks of this and going from 4x8 to 2x16 other than going from 2133Mhz to 2666Mhz

          • @Trance N Dance: Thanks Trance

I'll be sticking at 32 GB as it suits my needs. I have never exceeded 32 GB useage but often use more than 16 GB.

Would I notice much difference from 2133 to 2666 for the following use case

            5 word documents open
            5 excel sheets open
            5 PDFs open
Web browsing with up to 40 tabs
            Outlook
            Google Drive
            Dropbox
            Two 4k Monitors, 1 1080p monitor
10 or so other small utilities (screen capture software, hot key software, mouse and keyboard software, windows management software etc).

            Across multiple virtual desktops

            Thank you.

@fd9: Not really, unless you're doing massive intensive workloads the real world difference is negligible (unless it's ryzen). If you're using anything older than 2-3 years then the difference is realistically nothing.

              • @Trance N Dance: Great. Thanks for the info :)

                • +1

@fd9: Sorry I shouldn't say years, anything older than 2-3 generations; so older than intel 8th gen or ryzen gen 1.

                  • @Trance N Dance: I see. I have a 10th gen i5.

                    • @fd9: There would be some performance increase, but whether it's worth the dollars for a few percentage points is up to you.

                      • @Trance N Dance: I see. Thanks for the information, it was very helpful :)

  • Paid 12c less than this, when Amazon had their deal from UK (free shipping with Prime).

Arrived today, 10 days after ordering.

Can't complain about price or delivery time.

    • I used the shopback BF stacking fun with this. Not even sure how much it turned out to be but should be a good deal.

  • Damn, not a good time to sell the 16gb I pulled out of my Dell XPS. Good price.

    • whyyy?

      • Well the new stuff is so cheap, slightly used will fetch even less.

  • +1

Not too technically literate, I'm after 16gb of ram for my laptop. Does it matter if i buy 2 of the 8gb ones (separate), vs in a kit (2x8gb that come together)?

    • +3

No it doesn’t matter, kits are generally sold in twos for the benefit of dual channel.
You can just buy two of the above and you’ll have no troubles.

      • Cheers mate!

  • would the laptop kit work with iMac 2017? thanks in advance.

  • If it does not work with my computer, whats the refund policy?

    • +1

Bought some crucial memory before and it didn't work under stress for some reason even though it was meant to be suitable for my laptop

  • I have a razer 15 base 2018 , currently have 16gb, like to get it to 32. Will this work ?

  • My first HDD was 850mb 🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • 850 millibits? Wow that is tiny :)

I assume you mean 850 MB megabytes

      My first HDD was 20MB

      • Hahahahaha
        You're right, it was 850MB
