    Interesting.
    < 5 metres from a FTTN node = $ 7,576 inc. GST

    • You have a FTTN node in your front yard?

      • +2

        Yep. It’s quite the eyesore

        • +2

My council at least paints most of the ones around town. Are yours painted or do you have a horrible sun-faded green in your front yard?

          • +6

@Guybrush57: Its green and techs are there several times a day most days.

FTTN really is an ridiculous system.

We have water and electricity delivered inside our house but the far, far, far less complex NBN stops just outside and makes use of old world phone lines just so it can be more complex, slow, expensive and unreliable.

        • +1

          Yep. It’s quite the eyesore

My condolences then… They are ugly. Back over it with the car a few times, they might move it :)

        • Is there also a pillar. Because it goes node to pillar to house.

  • +1

'A quote cannot be generated at this time.'
maybe because currently 1.5km of copper (FTTN)
    .

  • +2

$14k for me to go from FTTN to FTTP. No thanks. Waiting for 5G…

  • Change to: nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost : $2,634 inc. GST

Currently have Telstra Cable at 115/5, but FTTC is available in my area.

    • cost from fttc to P should be $300

      • Would be nice if it was $300..

      • It should have cost extra <$100 done in bulk the 1st time.
How hard is to pull fiver along the old cable?
        Mine FTTN <10m cost $8,852 :(

        • +1

easier than the HFC runs they have done

    • Same boat, holding onto that sweet sweet uncontended cable for as long as they'll let me!

  • Change to: nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost: $ 4,788 inc. GST

Currently have FTTN. Max speed I can get at the moment is just 27mbps.

    • +1

At that price, I’d do it!

      • It's tempting. But me and my wife both working from home, my parents at home as well. 2 TVs, 5 mobiles and other Devices connected to network, I am pretty surprised how smooth things are running event at 25mbps. So if things go worse, I would do it definitely.

      • Far out I would love a quote like that. Mine came in at $ 14,190 inc. GST

  • +1

    $ 12,195 inc. GST

I already have FTTP so tried my brothers house which is FTTN, the node is literally next door haha.

  • Cost $ 23,592 inc. GST

Jeeeeez, I think thats a no for me.

  • Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost $ 9,336 inc. GST

    from FTTN

  • +9

    $ 23,935 inc. GST
    Yeah, no.

Stupid Liberal Party. They're the reason why we can't have nice things.

    • damn mine was 19k from hfc lol

  • +2

Plenty of houses in my suburb have had FTTP since 2015/2016 and they now enjoy gigabit speeds. I unfortunately got stuck with FTTN and I couldn't quite stomach the idea of paying for only a quote for something that others got for free.

My line maxes out at about 65-70 Mbps so FTTP would be welcomed and a free quote is just what I need.

    $11,795.00 inc. GST

allmynope. That is well over 10 years of 5G access.

EDIT: Boy am I glad I didn't piss money up the wall to learn this information.

  • $24573 to FTTP from HFC.

But no point for me as by 2023 my premise will be upgraded to 1000 mbps HFC from 250 mbps

    • +1

The HFC Gigabit upgrade is due by late 2021. The 2023 date is for parts of FTTN to be changed to FTTP when requested by the end user.

  • $15,802 to FTTP from HFC

  • +7

$ 43,281 HFC to FTTP sign me up!

  • Cost $ 14,272 inc. GST. Currently FTTN.

    Yeah, NAH.

  • +1

$2996, not terrible. Currently FTTC so would presume that it would be very little work though

    • +1

2996 Roentgens. Not Great, Not terrible.

  • $13k
    FTTN

  • $15,131 FTTN

  • $ 16,451 inc. GST
    Should I do it?

    • What type of NBN do you have now? What is your current speed like? Do you get regular dropouts?

      • HFC. Speed is good. I had 576 dropouts in a week, and recently my NBN was fixed so I get about 5 a day now…

        • +4

Omg 576 dropouts in a week! 5 dropouts a day still classifies as a fault that NBN should be fixing. If you have the coin and plan on staying put I'd go ahead.

  • +1

    $ 10,982 inc. GST
    :/

I'm in an estate where the first section got FTTN, and all the new sections got FTTP (so its about 30% FTTN, 70% FTTP), and I'm stuck on FTTN

Pretty sure fibre runs up my street to a new part of the estate :/

  • $ 35,854 inc. GST - from HFC. I'm winning?

    • $ 40,378 inc. GST

There is millions of dollars in quotes here, surely this cant be accurate

      • wouldn't take much really to run into the 10's of thousands. Even when they are doing a mass rollout of FTTP the cost per house is generally a few grand per house.

        • Just sucks that is the cost for decent internet in some parts of Australia (note I only like 35 mins from Melbourne CBD)

  • -3

$0 but only because I'm rocking FTTP already :P

I run off 2 separate ISPs and they're both flawless in speed. If the upgrade is cheap go for it ;)

  • GGF

Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost $ 13,329 inc. GST

  • +4

Good news! Your location already has access to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). You don’t need to proceed with your quote.

    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost $ 25,137 inc. GST

    Currently have HFC.

    • Same I just beat you in terms of cost just haha

  • +1

    $12,200. What a Joke.
Equivalent to around 17yrs of internet access lol.
    Cheers for the post OP.

  • +1

Anyone ever tried that grouping option? What kind of % drop per property do you think you'd expect by joining your neighbours?

    • +4

Not sure but if you alert neighbours in the area that you are interested in a group switch then they can decline and wait for you to proceed to cover the bulk of the infrastructure then do the switch themselves cheap as chips at your expense.

      • +4

Also very true, it's a good prisoners dilemma

        • +1

That's why we all pay taxes to the state to take care of such things.

  • The absurd part of this whole gig is that those with crappier speeds and a need for an upgrade have to pay more than those with far better (fttb/c) connections.

  • $ 2,891.
I'm currently FTTC so nearly $3k…what a rip.

  • $24,000. 50 down on HFC will have to do for now…

  • +1

$ 19,396 to change from FTTN to FTTP. Guess I'll just stay on iiNet Cable getting an average of 500/50 for $80/month.

    • -1

iiNet Cable is better than any NBN service anyway.

  • A few weeks ago there was an electrical storm and I got a surge through the HFC cable that took out a few pieces of equipment. All my equipment was on battery backed ups so I know it didn't come through the power. I have now bought protectors for the coax and Ethernet but would be great to not have to worry about that with fttp.

  • $22K+

  • $9,550 FTTN. Pretty close to the Node and usually get around 80-90ish down. Would be happy to pay $1-2K if a handful of neighbours chipped in.

  • $ 2,805

Finally jumped over to nbn a month ago. FTTC here, and the tech said the distance between the little nbn box and the fibre point outside our fence (or was it a couple of pits over), came to 77m of old phone line.

Fortunately our speeds our pretty decent, I don`t think many of our neighbours have bothered to take up the nbn service, so no congestion

  • +4

    17k… thanks Liberals

  • My quote was just under 4k.. based on the comments I'm wondering if I should grab it… though it works fine as is FTTC

  • Who's got the highest quote mines in HFC currently

nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    $ 25,524 inc. GST

    • Someone on HFC paid $68,200 to get FTTP.

      • If you can afford it why not?

        • I agree. Maybe they work in IT and need a stable home connection.

  • 33k FTTN (getting the full 100/40) to FTTP.

  • $ 21,325 inc. GST currently HFC :,(

  • Remember when tax payers paid for the first iteration, and were forced over to their service. Nothing like a good ol' double dip.

  • $12k. I might be loving under a rock, but wasn't NBN co providing the access to every household?

    • +2

It is, but this is to get what the Labor Party originally proposed for the majority of the population.

      • +2

The Labor Party originally proposed FTTN, which was correctly labeled Fraudband by a Nationals senator, they then reworked it properly to FTTP.

        • +4

I don't know why you're being downvoted by clueless people because what you are saying is 100% correct. The original Labor plan was for FTTN when the first iteration of a National network with Telstra involved was planned, Labor were told it was a rubbish idea and they actually listened to the experts and ditched it (and told Sol Trujillo and Telstra to bugger off) and instead planned on a mostly FTTP build via NBN Co

  • I'm wondering why the quotes are only valid for 24 hours? What are they expecting to happen in the next couple of days?

So - upgrading my home from HFC to FTTP was a bit over $9000. Upgrading my investment property from FTTN to FTTP is $17542. I shall live with what I have.

  • It should have cost extra <$100 done in bulk the 1st time.
How hard is to pull fiver along the old cable?
    Mine FTTN <10m cost $8,852 :(

  • +3

My quote was $12k but what else I don't understand is how on earth were they charging $330 to give an automated quote like this?

I would be very disappointed to pay $330 only to get an ridiculous quote that looks like it was made up by a random number generator.

    • My thoughts exactly. $330 for this random automated garbage that they'd profit off big time were you to proceed when it'd only cost them a pittance to do the work.

  • Current: HFC
Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost : $12,512 inc. GST

    No thank you

  • Current: HFC
Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost : $11,951 inc. GST

Already on tc4 HFC plan 1000/50, so meh. Don't need it.

  • +4

So people used to pay $330 to be told they need to pay $20,000+ for something that should have been free 7 years ago? The libs really know how to milk the plebeians.

  • Currently on HFC
    $ 13,896 inc. GST
Due for an upgrade next year though.

I'm currently on the 100/20 plan
I'm happy with my speeds for now.
    PING ms 9

    • WOHOO AS OF TODAY 3TNB CAN DO GIGABIT!!! OMFG!! I AM CRYING FROM JOY! HFC I LOVE YO U

  • +1

    Current: FTTN
Change to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
    Cost: 15K

I can only achieve 25/5 :(. My only option is 5g in the future.

    • I had 4g broadband before NBN FTTN. Although the speeds were higher than NBN, the packet loss is huge, so lot of buffering and non hd pictures. Now I am on 27mbps, but much better. Eityher i'll wait for FTTP to be rolled out to my place, or if needed will go ahead and get fttp with my money :-(

      • Thanks for the comment. I was wondering if 4g was worth me trying, but might just skip it for the moment. 25 is ok speeds.

  • -1

WOHOO AS OF TODAY 3TNB CAN DO GIGABIT!!! OMFG!! I AM CRYING FROM JOY! HFC I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Reminder if you have an ABN you can get a free install via Aussie broadband if you sign up on a 3 year contract to their enterprise plan:

    https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/enterprise/nbn-enterprise…

Best of all, eligible businesses can now access a $0 fibre install for nbn™ Enterprise Ethernet on a 36-month contract (subject to a site qualification check*).

    pdf detailing their plans:
    https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/1…

100/100 speed plans are $349/month, which works out to $12,564 over 3 years. If you discount the fact that it includes the nbn charge (100/20 speed = $99/month = $3564), you'd be paying approx $9,000 for the install over the 3 year contract, all tax deductible.

Not sure what the early disconnection fees would be. Could make it cheaper.

    • The thing is if you want to switch at the end of your NBN Enterprise Ethernet contract and still want FTTP you pay upfront for a 2nd FTTP installation. Pick your poison.

  • +1

Good news! Your location already has access to nbn™ Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). You don’t need to proceed with your quote.
    :P

  • My address is not even listed :( Maybe since I already got Opticomm in the estate.

    • +1

Opticomm is not apart of the NBN FTTP upgrades.

  • Hmm… Got taken off HFC after clicking through or they decided to do that on Dec 1.

  • Be good if there was a google spreadsheet we can all track although I suspect someone's already started one.
