If only this came to android! They'd have my money thrice.

Bored and browsing my pit of unplayed Steam games I came across FTL and gave it a shot.
It's one of those games where you fail often and need to restart to get good RNG or get gud.

I wanted to step away from my PC so I tried Steam Remote Play. Unfortunately, (with my limited testing) it wasn't too playable using the "click" mode on my phone.

The game play definitely lends itself to a mobile-game-style, so I would also like to get into this game on a mobile phone!

It would be so great on my Android tablet.

What's the difference between this and normal FTL, which I also own and haven't played in years?

Its just new content for the game, you dont need to buy this as its a free update for the game

I've spent about 150hrs on this game, for such a simple concept there is a huge learning curve / progression which comes with practice. That first victory was an amazing feeling.

Great game, but many times unforgiving.

Advanced edition adds new content (weapons, systems, crew, etc.), which fortunately you can toggle on/off as it changes the game dynamic a good chunk. Being able to toggle the new content is a welcome functionality for newcomers as it does take a while to get a hang of the base game.

I've picked this back up recently and am still enjoying it today. I have played 12hrs in the past two weeks, total 52hrs on record.

Easy can still be quite hard to clear :)

You just need to know what builds to go for to beat flagship. Once you have that you can mostly win quite easily. Always going stealth, pre ignite, high evasion (don't max shields over evasion) plenty to high volume lasers will get you there. Then knowing what to attack in what order is important. However sometimes the RNG gods don't plsy fair, but you can still squeak out a win (they are the most satisfying).

      • One of the great things about the game is mastering one strategy then starting afresh with another.

My favourite are low weapons, strong boarding party wins.

          • @serpserpserp: I've refrained from boarding parties in the past, but since I gave it a go with mantises I'm having a blast!

          • @serpserpserp: The second Mantis ship with 4 spaces teleport is amazing with this strategy.

I've logged in just to wax lyrical about this game. It's amazing - everyone should own it. Especially at this price

I've managed to beat it on all ships on easy/normal difficulty - I'm now trying on hard

The RNG can either screw you completely or set you up for a win but thats just part of the fun!

Some tips/strats I can suggest playing with

    • Don't underestimate the value of upgrading some of the "less appealing" systems like Autopilot, Doors, Sensors, Oxy. It will help generate blue (beneficial) event choices.

    • Don't feel like you need to upgrade your power the same time getting a new system/upgrading your power - Get into the habit of "power juggling" - temporarily reducing power from less essential systems to engines if a missile has been fired at you

    • Two Zoltan Crew members sitting in the shield room will give your ship ion immunity.

    • Paring up Hack (advanced) with Fire Bombs can be a handy combo for trapping and killing crew. Wait for fire to spread a bit, temp turn off power to hacking, wait for enemy crew can enter the room and turn hacking back on. Even more efficient when you throw Rock Boarders into the mix.

    • Occasionally you may come across a ship that can't damage you through your shields. If you are patient these are training opportunities. Maxed out Engine/Pilot crew member will significantly increase your dodge skills. I tend to switch the crew into different rooms so they are least gold in 2 different skills.

I could talk about this game all day really.

    • Get into the habit of "power juggling" - temporarily reducing power from less essential systems to engines if a missile has been fired at you

After heavy play sessions I upgrade power just so I don't have to juggle every. single time. a missile gets fired!

Great game! If you are looking for more space roguelikes like FTL then I can also recommend these ones that are discounted on Steam at the moment
    Crying Suns
    Shortest Trip to Earth
Not in space but Convoy is pretty much FTL but Mad Max style

    • Crying Suns

It is a good game in its own right, but I find it not like FTL. The story line mechanics is similar i guess and it is in space, but I really find it a more in depth game.

Going to try this Convoy game though!

This game is excellent. Get it. That is all.

  • I've beaten all the modes and all the ship achievements. I'm now onto Captain's Edition which is great:
